Sunset Yellow Discussion

Just curious how long you waited from the time you talked to your rep..to when you got a call back for a date on dropping off the stinger? My rep said she would call the dealer to set it up and I’ve been waiting a week ...
Pretty sure you had a miscommunication. You are supposed to call your dealership and set it up then inform Linda of appointment and she will contact dealer afterwards to make sure they follow protocol.

She literally told me she would call them haha.. il call them

She told me she would call mine too after I informed her the appointment was made.

I had to inform her the persons name at dealership that was handling my service thus I had to call them first.

She called me and asked which dealer I preferred to use then she called the dealer to let them know and ensured there always a loaner available. The dealer then called me and we set up the appointment for drop off. Worked well. Yellow stinger pulling up was the talk of the dealership.
Dealership has their own paint shop and is extremely confident in the quality of their repaint. Expected completion 25 -30 days. Day 0 complete

I experience the same. I had initially called the Dealership but in mid conversation I suddenly remember Linda telling me to let her called them to set everything up first. She called me back 2 days later confirming she did in-fact speak to them and they are ready to set a date for the repair. I called the service department and made the appt. for Sept.3. Better to have Linda pave the way for you first because the conversation with the dealership initially was not headed the way the letter had describe.

FYI, the service campaign calls for a Loaner and not a rental. The service guy tried to inform me that I would have to leave a 50.00 dollar deposit and a credit card jic. for a rental car but that they will pay for it. That sounded good on a regular basis but it does not match what was offered. To put your credit card info is assuming responsibility incase anything happened. I sent Brianna (Linda fill-in while she's on vacation) an email to clear up the confusion and this was the reply:

to me:
This email is to confirm your approval of proceeding with the repaint of your Kia Stinger. We will contact your dealership Service Department and identify your dealership contact who will coordinate with you and the dealership’s preferred paint shop to schedule the appointment and provide a loaner car. Once the repaint is complete, you will have up to thirty days to notify Kia Motors of your decision whether to accept the option for repaint and goodwill.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

my reply:

Thanks for the update. It is much appreciated. I have spoken to Linda (case manager) about 2 weeks ago who has communicated with the dealership of my choosing. Service department (Gateway KIA North Brunswick NJ) has reach out to me with a Sept. 3 appt. date.
I do have two question.

  1. Can I decide to keep the repainted car earlier than the 30 days?

  2. The KIA service manager mention that I would have to leave a credit card deposit for the Rent-A-Car. From what I have read, this does not match what was mention in the letter or emails which I have received. (not really a question J).

her reply:

Good morning! I am actually your acting case manager at the moment. I appreciate your speedy response and would like to answer your questions!

  1. You may decide to keep the car prior to 30 days, that is just the maximum time allotted. Once you’ve made your decision we will send you a release letter finalizing your decision. At that point we will continue forward with processing your goodwill payment.

  2. That does not comply with the service campaign we are currently running. I will have to follow up with the dealership anyways on the appointment but I will also address the deposit situation as well. I will do my best to complete the follow up today; otherwise, I will be sending you an update once everything is confirmed.

What is the rush? Once the repaint is final, you have 30 days to make a decision on whether to keep or not. Final decision for swap or re-buy must be sooner than Dec 1 in any event.

Take you time and let the process happen is my thought. I am in no hurry to be one of the first repaints... There are only a handful of these in each market so wait times should not be too bad once the process actually begins.

Make sure you have all questions answered and understand exactly what is happening before turning your car over.

I’m not really in a hurry... but don’t want to wait too long if my car is going to be gone a month!

It was about a week between calls from the rep because I hadn’t decided which dealer to use. When she called back to ask for my decision the dealer contacted me the next day and dropped off a few days later

My car has been at the paint shop for 7 days. I'm definitely going through withdrawals.

coming up to two weeks since I talked to Linda after she said that Monday she was going to get with the dealership...have not heard back in the past eleven days.....any suggestions?

I'm not sure why anyone is waiting on the main office to get their work scheduled and moving. I received my letter last week and then I contacted my dealership directly(it basically states that in the letter). They were aware of the recall and more than happy to get my appointment scheduled and my car went in yesterday and got my loaner. The dealership called today and gave me an update from their professional paint service shop and said they would be working on it for at least the next 2 weeks. She will keep me updated as the work progresses.

I asked Linda what I was to do and she said she was going to contact the dealership. I asked her should I do that and she said NO. That is why I have not acted. I worry about having a car someplace like a shop for weeks or months where something could happen to it. Insurance worry but I guess I shouldn't. Yet, it is not good thinking about it.

I just spoke with Valerie. Told her I had contacted the service department at my dealer and they sent me to the voicemail of their body shop who has yet to call me back. She said that's no good since the body shop won't procure a loaner for me, so she'll contact the dealership and have them contact me. I told her not to worry about finding a Stinger GT as a loaner since it's only temporary and that made her day. Unsuprisingly it's a big pain in the butt to track down a $40-50k loaner vehicle from Kia dealerships, so if it's not the end of the world for anyone here feel free to mention you're fine with an Optima or something.

My dealer got on it pretty quick, however, I had formally complained about the paint issue to them 4 months ago, they took pictures and it was escalated from there. I think it helped that my car was pretty much detail level clean every time they would see it, and other than these giant spots of missing paint my paint was flawless.

I placed a complaint through KIA's web portal regarding my paint once I had heard about the recall in Australia. I then later that week went to the dealer to get my oil changed and the recall notice showed up when pulled my vehicle information. At that point the dealer said they would have to find an appropriate place to paint my car and we talked about all of the steps that they would have to do, and that I would get a loaner. About three weeks later I received my letter, and then I called my dealer that day and he said he was about to call me and that he had made all of the arrangements. I just had to drop off my car, so I dropped it off the next day.

I lucked out that he happened to select the best paint shop in the area, the paint shop is almost like an apple store, car dealer, and collision center had a baby.

i also spoke with valerie, she had an email sent to me by the end of that business day. she was reaching out to the closest kia dealership to me since the dealership i purchased my yellow is about an hour and a half away and the closest is 15 minutes away. her reasoning is that the closer dealership has a paint booth/collision shop inhouse. either way, she said that it might be a week to ten days before i get a call from the dealeship on when to bring in my stinger, and that a qualified tech is on hand to survey the workas it proceeds through the various stages. I will wait as long as they want because they are willing to correct the paint problem

Valerie finally sent me an email since we missed communicating by phone. She just was asking to see if I had received my letter and if I had questions. I informed her that I got the letter over a week ago, had already contacted my dealership who made me an appointment and it has been in since Monday and I gave her their contact information. She replied back that that was awesome and that was all she needed and would follow up with my dealer as to the progress on my car. So I have dual resources monitoring my car.

My dealer also reached out this week before confirmation of repaint choice with Linda and the team. They took delivery of another yellow this week as well. I am waiting to see how that one turns out before agreeing to use their in house body shop.

Dropped her off for repaint.. now we wait..
