Sunroof Rattle Fix

Did you only add the microfiber at those end points, or did you run it along the full rail length?
I used small pieces (approx 1" square) to slide under the 3 torx screws in the front 1/4 of the passenger side rail.

Hi guys, do we have any news about this issue ? My sound is (I guess) coming from the are above the rear seats not the front. Tried all the fixes here ... no joy.

Did you line the rear seat roof handle connection points with felt tape?

Hi guys,

After 80k km the sunroof of my GT2 started drive me crazy, the rattle is so intensive... I opted to try double sided tape, but I should note that sunroof rattles in every position, even tilted or fully opened. Any ideas would be appreciated?

Maybe some screws are loose?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I also had the rattle come up a few times and fixed it with a replication of silicone on all rubber and plastic edges of the sunroof.
It usually starts rattling every year around the end of summer.
This year I applied Valvoline Silicone Spray and it worked like a charm. Cleaned everything with a damp towel before application.

PS: All sunroofs rattle if the lubrication fades away. Just try a google search with any car brand.

This is the happiest I've been with my car in a long time!

I found the issue with my sunroof. The rail that the glass rides on has a protrusion coming down. I think it's a foot for the sunroof to rest on. It's circled in the below pic.

Now, the sunroof housing has a cutout where that foot meets when the glass is closed. It can be seen circled in the below pic.

When the roof is closed those two peices are bumping against each other causing this noise.

In the next video I'm pushing down on the glass to replicate the clattering sound.

In this video I just shot the noise is gone. I'm pushing down hard enough to squeeze water out of the rag I was using to clean up the grease job I'd just done to the sunroof.

Something has to be placed between the two circled areas so they don't clickity clack against each other.

It may not be the same for everyone, but that's my fix. Unfortunately there's so much grease applied to my rail I couldn't get the felt to stay put permanently. This weekend I'll clean it up and find something more appropriate to apply. Now I don't have to deal with Kia ripping the car apart!

To reiterate, this probably won't fix everyone's sunroof Rattle as I believe there is more than one cause. But hopefully it'll help those who have the same problem as me.
Hi,

Did this fix the rattle..?

I’m planning to do the same

apparently there's a TSB now.

btw, anyone experienced "creaking" sound when turning steering wheel?

nono, from steering wheel directly :)

You can search the TSB's at nhtsa.gov. There's only 1 for the sunroof which describes how to fix one side getting stuck down and the entire roof becoming inoperable (ask me how I know, its happened to me twice). https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10225558-0001.pdf

There's nothing for a creaky sunroof, but that one will give the folks at the dealer detailed instructions on how to take it apart and put it back together.

Areas highlighted in yellow, plus around the rest of the perimeter of the glass.

I use this lubricant for a lot of things and it holds up well long term. It's not too runny so it stays put.

Tried your method and it works! Thank you so much. Silicone lube WORKS! I used to have rattle and ticking sound coming above the drivers head. After using wd40 silicone around the seals, It's gone! I used the Wd40 silicon spray. It works like a charm. I applied it about three weeks ago, and the roof is still silent. I only lubed the inner weather striping as shown in one of the previous post by Sabs. You can't go wrong with some silicone lube and only costing a few dollars.

Great to hear! A couple years later and mine is still quiet, so hopefully this holds up for you long-term as well.
