Sunroof Rattle Fix

This could be the problem with mine, it only does this when closed and cold.. doesn't do it when out in the sun all day, I guess because of expansion of the parts from the heat.. I'll have to give this a try.. Thanks.

It's very strange.
Mine makes noise when it is warmer.
It was reading around 55F this morning and it had no rattle in the beginning, but I drove with HVAC set at 78F on for 30 minutes and rattle started again as inside of vehicle heated up.

Fix option ... maybe try apply some liquid electrical tape. It may create the thin rubber-ised layer your chasing to stop that rattle. You might consider putting it on the foot, rather than the rest stop.

Wow. I didn't even know liquid electrical tape was a thing. I just added it to my Amazon cart.

Unfortunately the foot is virtually impossible to reach. Do you think it will stick to the rest stop part?

Thanks for the recommendation!

I went ahead and opted for silicone. Yesterday I applied a strip to the problem area and let it dry overnight. Right now it seems like it's solid enough to stand up to the forces of the "foot" pressing on it.

I haven't actually closed the roof yet. I'm hoping it isn't too thick. I have my felt tape fox standing by just in case.

How did you go with this bud? Any more rattle after applying the silicone?

It's completely quiet. I don't know silicone will work for people that actually open and tilt their roof though. I might eventually fall off the rail from all the moving.

Kamauxx, I love you man :notworthy:, seriously, the rattle was really getting to me and I was dreading the day the dealer will remove the headliner etc.

I went ahead and added some heavy duty 3M double sided tape that I had laying around to both the passenger and driver side, left the cover of the double sided tape on and the sunroof is quite, not a single sound.

thanks for investigating and finding out the problem, not even KIA was able to find out what the issue was

I had discovered I have sunroof noise about a week ago. It was hard to tell where it was coming from, I thought something in the back seat, a seat belt or the hatch. Turns out it was the sunroof. I guess the cold weather made it start. I cut about a 2' piece of two sided tape in half. Applied to both sides in the location you guys used and it is dead quiet now.

Thank you so much for doing this research and sharing it!

Great , can you post a pic pls

I will try to take one tomorrow.

FYI.. I have a "friend" who put some double sided tape in the sunroof like the poster above. The sunroof opened fine once, but the second time the sunroof would not open. It would raise up like normal on the right side, but the left side hits the metal part of the car causing the sunroof to not open. He took the car to the dealer, who, apart from having to remove the headliner and all, now has to call a glass company to come and take the sunroof out to see what the problem is. He dropped the car off on Monday and probably wont get the car back till the end of next week. He is not going to mention the tape to the dealer, however he is wondering what happened and how 4 small pieces of tape could mess the sunroof up this bad. Any ideas?

Again.. Asking for a friend..

tell your "friend" not to admit to putting the tape there , but when the glass isout they should be able to see if the frame is broken or incorrectly installed ....................been there ! ........................I mean what are "friends " for ? Right :laugh:

What was wrong with your sunroof? Did it come off the track?

No , it was creaking and ticking , they replaced the whole frame , silent now for a year

Well my friend heard from the dealership who said that the glass company wanted a lot of money to remove the sunroof and the expense now has to be approved by Kia. The dealership said that once the glass is l removed they will have to cut, remove and install a new frame. My friend just wants his Stinger back, but it might be a while.

tell "your friend" to be patient , this is the cure , just make sure they dont damage your car . Inspect it and get them to sign off on the pre fix condition !!

Probably good to take some pictures. Sounds like suspect areas for damage are door panels, the roof, maybe dash, seats...they are touching many things on this job, I've read the service manual lol.
