Hi all!

So yesterday I drove into town (15 miles or so). I stopped to pick up some cognac (mmmm) and when leaving the parking lot I hit an edge.. like where the tar from the parking lot meets the concrete that leads to the street. It was a good 2" high.. a straight up edge.... _____| like that. :) I didn't scrape but it was a small jolt at about 2-3mph.

About 2 blocks later my front right tire was down to 27lbs and my dash was of course telling me I had a low tire.

Luckily I was right by a gas station. I filled up the tire (man, it would be nice if the Stinger had what my wife's Murano does.. when you fill the tire when it gets to the right pressure the horn honks) and drove home keeping a close eye on the pressure on the dash.

Besides a normal 1lb up or down that normally happens on all tires, I made it home fine.

This morning I checked and it was still at the pressure I filled it to.

This is an 18 GT2 AWD with the 18" wheels.

I thought maybe the jolt may have caused a little air to leak out of the bead or something? Possible?

I also noticed once I refilled all tires when cold that my manual air pressure guage (analog, not digital) reads 2lbs lower than the Stinger does... So there's that too.

Just want to comment on the fact that I didn't know that the horn will honk when the tire gets to the right pressure. Does this work with aftermarket wheels and TPMS? Does the car have to be running?

No, I said I WISH the stinger did that... my wife's 3 previous cars (nissans) do this. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh my bad! I read that a little too quickly. Sorry about that!

That is a weird incident. I've never experienced anything like it. So, you actually lost air; not just a TPMS spaz attack. And then the psi just stayed up there. Very strange. I guess that your theory has to be right. Somehow the bead got popped ever so slightly; but when you brought the tire back up to full psi it "resealed". Lucky you. :D

My handheld tire gauge indicates 1, 2 psi higher than the TPMS; and the TPMS is 1, 2 psi higher than the place where I get my tires mounted.

Cant say this has ever happened to me either and I agree it sounds like it leaked around the bead and adding the pressure back reseated it as Merlin said. I think as long as the tire looks normal (no bulge or cracks in the sidewall or anything) and holds air you should be fine, I cant recall any incidents like this in all my years on car forums.

Had something similar happen in a Sportage vs massive pothole on interstate. Pressure warning right way, thought for sure it was done for. Got out and looked and it appeared a little low but ok. Inflated and it held air all night. Went to dealership next day because the alignment was now noticeably off and they checked out tire and said it was fine.
My stinger TPMS has never matched my gauge. It’s always 2-3 higher on TPMS.

I bet your tire was already low and the light came on coincidentally with hitting the bump. I highly doubt hitting a bump coming out of a parking lot could do anything to either the tire or rim to cause you to lose pressure.

I would bet that that tire has a small leak from either a nail or screw stuck in the tire. Probably a good idea to inspect that tire.

Ya, I just did that. Looks good.. although I guess I should have checked the tires as they are darn near down to the wear marks. :)

Wow. Can you share what tires you have and how many miles?

They are the stock 18" tires.. forgot which they are. From what I see 20k miles is about all they last, and that's what I have.

On Thursday I'm getting Continental Control Contact Sport SRS installed at Discount Tire. Seems to be a good all all weather tire, especially in winter and should last 50k or more.. which I won't put on the car in 10 years lol!

Skuttlebutt again: says replace tires that are c. six years old, regardless of tread wear. "Well I never!" That would have been my reaction back in my more penurious days (as a daddy with mismatched used tires on the car, heh!). Well, with the Stinger I doubt I'll get six years out of tires, but if I ever do, I'll replace them right around then. It makes daft sense to keep OLD tires on a high performance Gran Turismo; just asking to be destroyed if you push to enjoy performance levels on OLD tires.

Well, just got a call from Discount Tire and they said the Continentals won't work because of the load rating. We were both befuddled as to why it was their "#1 choice" online! lol. So we're doing YOKOHAMA YK740 GTX instead. I knew I should have just called instead of using the web. DT has always been super awesome to deal with.
