StingerGT vs Infiniti Q50S Redsport

This guy's reviews are brutal. He did one on the 20th anniversary edition. It was a 2020 model with 6 piston calipers. I'm like I got ripped - I want that model. There were a few other inaccurate observances but I can't force myself to watch that video again to point them out.

I'm not sure brutal is the right word.

If this one is anything to go buy (I don't want to watch anything else he's done), downright terrible is more appropriate...

Doesn't deserve its own thread, but Doug reviews the Q50 here:

This guy doesn't know how to do a proper comparison. He takes off in the "drag race" well before the Stinger driver takes off and then the brake test isn't measured at all. How are we to know if he started braking later than the Stinger? So many things were off about this vid.
Im late to the party because I just got my stinger but I still wanted to say (in case someone actually sees this) he also disabled comments on the video which tells me this is rigged. They made the stinger lose on purpose.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Just to add some background on that YouTube channel. Its heavily infiniti based. Id say 70% of his vids are with the q50. Everyone keeps asking for stingers on comments but ignored. The latest vid he did put out on a stinger was against a mustang gt..... roush stage 3 making 750 hp lmao.

IIRC hes based off in Toronto. Customers/Subscribers come to him to either lend him the car or race themselves against opposition. I would be tempted to show what a tuned stinger can do but his bias makes me eery to entertain that thought.

I'm not sure if it was on the Stinger forum or the Genesis forum, but one of the members broke down one of this guy's videos and you could clearly see that he was fixing the races. It's been so bad that the content provider started talking about the "fairness" and how he's not doing anything dishonest when he races.

Actually now that I think about it, I think it was on the Genesis forum. If I find the post, I'll link it as a lot of members are on both forums.

Now I am curious about the genuine outcome of a Q60-RS400 (both RWD & AWD) against a stock Stinger GT (both RWD & AWD) without any bias...

Clarifying question, Q50 or Q60? What model year are we talking because I believe the Stinger went through some changes and tested differently from year to year if I'm not mistaken.

Stock for stock the Stinger loses both if you're loading same driver into both cars. Q50 finished the quarter a tenth faster and trapped 1mph higher in most tests. So it's 1 car length and would come down to driver if you line up in RL.

If you're talking about the Q60 (coupe), the Stinger gets walked. Finished the quarter almost a half second faster and traps 4 or mph higher. That's significant.

It was a q50 and the stinger has also been dyno tested by many at over 400 leading a lot of people to believe kia under reported hp. This is super common in Japan so it makes since to hear about a Korean manufacturer doing it.

First off, thanks for answering my question. I appreciate it.

The second part of your response I can't agree with you on the HP numbers for a few reasons.

Number 1, it's been proven by independent shops since the vehicle came out 4 years ago, that the HP numbers are accurate. What has been proven to be underrated are the torque numbers.

Number 2, other forum members have dyno'd their cars (again, this is going back at least 3 years ago) and come up with the same results as some of the independent shops.

Number 3, I've dyno'd my car and again it lines up with the HP numbers that the manufacturer is posting.

Number 4, Even if the 400 were accurate, there's actually more evidence of the Q50 being underrated more than the Stinger. Which leads to the next reason.

Number 5, traps don't lie. Our platform traps slower. Trap is direct insight into power. You don't trap lower (usually) when you make more power. Not when you're comparing similar vehicles drivetrains, and eras.

It's actually not worth bragging to make more power and win. Winning with less power is more impressive. And the car makes less power. The close E/Ts and wins have more to do with gearing in the transmissions.

So that it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. My response isn't to start an argument or beef or whatever. And congrats on your Stinger.

Stinger number 2 actually! Although I only kept the first one for a few weeks lol...gotta have that gt2. Thanks for clarifying. All we can do is report the evidence we see and what I had were youtube vids of the car making 330 to the wheels which factoring the 20% in means it has to be over 400 (on that dyno and assuming the video wasnt doctored or the cars that were claiming to be stock actually were) but repeated testing at what kia reported I believe cause like you said why would people lie about having less horsepower.

Ah, I think I see the discrepancy between our "dyno data"!

You're using 20%, I'm using 12-14% drivetrain loss which is closer to what I believe the car loses. Our AWD system is extremely rwd biased and more advanced than older awd systems.

Congrats on Stinger #2! GT2 is awesome!

I was back and forth between the Stinger 3.3TT and the Q50 Red Sport. I chose the 22 Stinger GT1 AWD. For one reason and one reason only. Style. The Red Sport is more powerful with 400hp but the Stinger isn't much behind with 368hp and to be honest it still felt like the stinger was the faster of the two. The styling between the two is immeasurable. The Stinger is fun to drive but also is a complete head turner. Many people don't even know what it is. I test drove both cars before purchasing and let me say that the Q50 holds it's own with the interior and tech, but just comes up short in the cool factor category. I got my stinger in ceramic silver, which against the red brembo brakes is such a good contrast in colors. The stinger interior back seats are a bit smaller than I'd like relative to the Q50 but it fits my car seat and another back passenger very comfortably or 4 people total very comfortably in the car. That being said, imho the Stinger is definitely a more fun, head turning, and cooler car to drive. If you are looking for pure hp (by name only) and nothing else then the Q50 is best bet, but if you want the added cool factor and not too far behind on hp then the Stinger is the way to go. Wouldn't trade my stinger in for the world!

I 100% agree. I didnt know the red sport existed when I bought mine but I was looking at giulias and I wouldnt re do it any other way with the information I have now. I just hope i get my car back soon since it is in the body shop after weeks of ownership (rear ended a week into ownership while stopped. She was looking at her phone.)

Any progress made on your parts?

can you be more specific on the data that makes you believe the AWD Drivetrain loss is closer to the 12-14% than the 20% that's normally thought? not trying to say you're wrong in any way, I am just curious where you get those numbers from.

The trap speed and E/Ts of this platform, both modded and stock, do not indicate that the manufacturer lied about crank horsepower. If you know the weight of a car along with it's quarter mile info, a lot of times you can accurately assume the power.

The car has been dyno'd by many independent shops that consistently get whp from 312 to 323.

If the crank horsepower is to be believed, and I think it should, then 312 to 323 divided by 365 results in 86% to 88%. Subtracted from 100%, you're left with 12% - 14%.

I've dyno'd and tracked my car as you know, and the numbers line up to show that torque was underrated from the factory, but not hp. All awd systems are not the same. Some are 50/50, some are 80/20, etc. Some are awd all the time, some are activated based on outside weather conditions, some are only traction based. Having a generic 20% rule in 2022 with all the advancements and differences in awd systems doesn't make sense. Also the Hyundai system has the ability to send 90% to either axel from the factory. 90% to a rear axel is very close to rwd and would also line up with why there is less drivetrain loss showing up on the dyno sheet.

Thank you for the in depth explanation. it makes 100% sense and is the exact answer I was looking for.

Great info, thanks! Just curious what your stock torque dyno numbers have been?
