Hi guys stumbled upon the forum searching for more info on the stinger GT. I am heading to Ohio next weekend to see on and sit in it, to see if my interest is still there. I have a Maxima SV now and like the car but want back in AWD with more power. Is the Stinger what I am looking for? That depends on the price and resale for me. $50k will be hard to spend on it when a little bit more I can get a 440X BMW with the track package.

Im excited to see what the forum has in it and learn more about this exciting new car!

Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples. A new $50K Stinger will be fully loaded; a new $50K 440ix GC is base price.

Completely agree with you. My fear is the resale value will it drop like crazy or will it hold up? Then should we wait for a bit and see if they start offering some deals on the car after it comes out for a while.

No one can be sure on the depreciation yet. But all signs point to it will be worse than average. The closest car Kia has to compare to is the k900 and that has horrible depreciation 50% or worse over 2 years. The stinger may not be that bad, as a big part of the problem with the k900 is it does not sell, and Kia is now offering HUGE discounts to buy a new one. We will have to wait to see what happens with the stinger, but almost all Kia's have worse than average depreciation. I know my optima has not held up well in that regard. The smart money would be waiting at least until the G70 releases. IMO it would be best to wait until the 2019 model and see where things have shaken out.

Lots of unknowns -- but I am certain the long term maintenance will be lower than the BMW....with a much longer standard warranty!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I know that is true BMW maintenance is not cheap. M3 valve adjustments made me cry back in the day

I will say one of my favorite cars I have had was a Mazda SPEED 6. I absolutely loved that car and should have kept it. The stinger seems like it will be better than the Mazda!

Performance wise yes, expect the stinger to be a step up. However I think the quality of the interior is not as nice as a new Mazda. I sat in a new Mazda cross over the other day and was really impressed by the interior finish if the car. I thought it was nicer than any of the BMW 3 series cars I test drove. Also nicer than the Jag.

I really need to check out Mazda if their interiors are of higher quality than BMW these days.

In any event, the K900 sold so badly that the second generation is a different car. It's not following in the same steps as the first generation did.

I don't expect any Kia's resale value to be the greatest but I do expect the Stinger to have the best in the lineup...

This is my hope as well

Let me tell you something. :p This car, no matter what anybody wants to believe, is going to be an "enthusiast car". Like the twin turbo enthusiast cars of the past, Mazda RX7, Nissan 300ZX, Toyota Supra, BMW 335i, Audi S4/RS4 - the Stinger is going to stick out like a (good) sore thumb and people are going to want it. Most people will want the twin turbo V6 but those who can't afford it or who simply want to be more economical will buy the 2.0T just to own one. This isn't going to be your average Kia and it's going to sell a lot. That's just how these things work. If the Genesis Coupe can get the following it did - the Stinger is going to get a much bigger following...

Would you really recommend to buy an "enthusiast's car" (with launch control!) second hand?
If the buyers end up being like most Porsche and Corvette drivers I see, they'll be middle-aged men, in the middle lane, going slower than everyone else, so maybe the "enthusiast" risk will be low. ;)

Well, I've sold two myself. I actually heard that one of the high performance Audi's have a set number of launches you can use before it turns off. I think it was Audi. Launch control on a stock vehicle hasn't been available all that long so I don't know how cars really hold up to the feature. I do feel that most cars with this feature have owners who never use it. I wouldn't mind buying a used car with launch control if my mechanic gave it a good look or if it came with a warranty. I'm not sure how warranties work with launch control. In any event, I'm confident the Stinger will have a higher resale value than an Optima.

Porsche and Corvette drivers

They are aware of their "investment", and probably are trying to keep it that way.

higher resale value than an Optima.

No doubt. But potential buyers, that have looked at Corvettes, Porsches, Audis, AMGs and found them out of their league financially, suddenly look at the Stinger. They may not be aware of the potential for this car to become a classic and may not be treating it with the necessary respect .
I believe, that it may be one of the best build (overbuilt?!) KIA cars to date. This car may be considered some sort of flag bearer: It could advance the brand or be a big embarassment. And I don't think KIA is shooting for the latter.

Only time will tell. We're all enthusiastically looking for this car on the streets and we'll know more later. Hopefully it goes well because I really like this car and really respect Kia as a brand who's made some amazing progress in very little time...

I agree the car has look and the numbers. KIA wasn't on my radar until this car popped up.

I was looking at a picture of a concrete grey GT and I think with the red interior it might be my choice.
