Squeak After Shutting Car Off

I've had my turbo on both side replaced because of the wastegate squeak and after all that new turbo assembly the noise still there. Ive sent them a video and the dealership said they will send it to the tech and now just waiting for the update. Seems like its normal but i don't think wastegate should be making that kind of noise.

Yeah... mine is still doing it but quieter. Glad I have a 100k warranty...

Its just a squeak guys, it will probably go away after a while anyway. I'm surprised a dealer agreed to replace the turbos over a noise that only happens for a split second at shutoff.

Kia corporate told them to replace it. It wasn’t the dealer’s call. Kia corporate said the turbo shouldn’t be making any squeaks at shutdown and the squeak signifies a failing wastegate.

Which, if I am understanding this correctly, is a potential warning that a turbo is going to fail: and a failing turbo will trash the whole engine when it "decomposes" at speed. So, even if the squeak/screech doesn't go away entirely, "an ounce of prevention" will save the engine. Kia does not want to replace entire engines under their 100K mile warranty!

My turbo was replaced and it’s making the noise again after a few thousand miles. Per the dealer, they contacted Kia and the engineers indicated that there should be no noise on shutoff and recommended replacing the turbo.

My gt has had this noise since new, i got it back in March. At 9,000 miles now and it’s more noticeable after long drives. No changes in performance though.

It is also possible that a squeak on shutdown is caused by a quick, small slip of the accessory belt as the mass of the reciprocating engine suddenly stops.

My car is going in for this tomorrow, I'm convinced it's a belt, it's honestly embarrassing to hear the squeak every time I come to a light with auto stop.

I didn't even consider that. Good point
Curious if the folks who had their turbo replaced had the little chirp/squeak with blipping the gas, or a true wastegate screech. Seems like a lot of folks have this little noise, myself included.

It was the waste gate, waiting to hear back from Kia Canada about what they're going to do about it. Tech also found that the sound happens when blipping the throttle, and now I've heard the sound myself while driving.

My dealer just told me that they have been contacting kia engineers regarding this and have no set solution yet. It is the wastegate in the turbo, so I told them I'm going on leave for a month and they can look at it and see what they can find.

Yeah, don't let any dealerships tell you it's "normal", the driver side wastegate doesn't do it and the dozens of turbos I've had in past vehicles don't do it, so it's not normal :)

I had my engine dropped out and both turbos replaced because we determined the squeak was coming from the driver side turbo waste gate actuator, so they had to replace that one but decided to replace both because they love me.

The squeak has been gone since the dual turbo replace it but just came back tonight a week after I installed a used Borla exhaust.

I am devastated I am actually sad.

Think it’s just something that we have to live with, mine still does it every time I turn the car off. Also look at those itty bitty turbos aha.

how many miles have you been driving with it?

The squeak I mean.
I’m pretty sure it’s always made that squeak more so after driving aggressively. So from 50 miles to 19,000 miles now.
