Squeak After Shutting Car Off

I’m pretty sure it’s always made that squeak more so after driving aggressively. So from 50 miles to 19,000 miles now.

Hmm not a very exciting thought for keeping this car long term. Just a bit embarrassing when you turn off the car and it goes REEEE.

Still love her though.

Heard this for this first time on my stinger gt. It is a 2020 gt rwd. Just turned 1000 miles on the odometer. :(

I know it sucks trust me. But it's not worth the repair hassle imo because it just comes back. KIA corporate says it's a faulty waste gate actuator but they just replace it with an OEM one that has the same issue. Mines intermittent now but you get used to it as sad as that is. I still love my girl.

Mine just started yesterday. The check engine light came on, and then I noticed it once I got home.

I had this at the dealer twice. The first time we couldn’t replicate it. It was very cold outside (for Arizona). Once it warmed up to in the 60s and above the squeak came back and the dealer heard it. It was coming from the passenger side. It was in fact the turbo wastegate. Kia doesn’t want to replace the wastegate so they just replace the turbo. So I am getting a new turbo. No tune or piggyback on my car. Just intakes and SSR midpipes. Dealer gave me no issues with warrantying the turbo.

was it faulty? Mines doing the same thing. It just squeaks a little when I shut the car off or when I feather the throttle. It’s annoying.

Anyone else experience this or know what it is? There is a squeak every time I shut off the car, audible from outside the car. Not sure if it's a belt or something else, but it's every time.

It is the wastegate actuator on one of the turbo assemblies. They replace the whole turbo under warranty, drop motor out etc.Not worth the process because it comes back.

What potential long term effect can this noise indicate?

I do not know from what I have seen or read. It is the actuator on the wastegate it self that is faulty.

Someone with more know on these assemblies or how they control boost pressure might be able to comment.

I am at 19k miles dropped motor out and replaced both turbos because of this issue was not worth it IMO we just gotta live with it.

Thanks for taking a bullet for all of us. I've had this sound since new and figured it wasn't worth going through what you went through since so many cars seemed to have the issue from day 1. Must just be a flaw in design, hopefully it never leads to any major long-term issues for the platform.

What a pic! I collect interesting, odd, esoteric pictures of Stingers (in situations). That one is a keeper.

As long as the turbos WORK, I think a few odd noises are acceptable. I probably wouldn't (don't?) even hear mine squeaking, because I have high frequency hearing loss. :P

It is the throttle body. Mine is squeaky as hell. With the engine on and hood open, can you quickly pump the gas pedal and create the sound? Mine sounds like a squeaky bed lol

When you turn the engine off, the throttle body closes after everything else stopped so it's a bit louder.
That's what's going on with my car right now. Did u ever figure out what it was or how to fix it?

Looks like it is a pretty common issue with stinger. Mine does the same. I don't care about the noice. Just wondering if that is something that leads to bigger problems if left unattended.

My BMW made the worst creak after shutting off, the electronic brake engaging. Sounded like a rusty spring. My hyundai EGTN did a similar thing, except it just sounded like an electronic piece, instead of a nasty creak. My bet would be on the brake.

Have had car for 12 days. First noticed this when I was just commuting, in Eco mode, and the car would do its auto shut off thing when I came to a stop light. As another member pointed out way back when...it's embarrassing because its rather audible.

When I got home from work today, after pulling in the garage, it did it again. Don't think it's a result of aggressive driving or even drive mode, as I drove all the way home in Eco.

Here's after pulling in, and then a 2nd start/stop a few seconds later...

Not really much you can do about it at this point. After hearing that another member had turbos replaced and it came back, can’t really say there’s a solution. 30k miles on my car been doing it as long as I can remember and no issues.

Your video: I hear birds in the background. Oh, and the faintest and briefest of squeaks on shut down.

It is brief, but I wouldn't say it's faint, one of those "videos don't do it justice" things. I don't normally shut my garage door before I turn the car off lol, so that's why there's nature in the background.

The real annoyance is during normal commuting with stop-n-go enabled. It's more the psychology behind it...like I feel I'm going to slowly deteriorate the wastegate actuator (even if in actuality there's no harm here).

I'm certainly not gonna take my car to a dealer for a week just so they can drop the engine and trans and replace the turbos only to not solve the problem.

I'm 12 days into ownership, others are years with this issue. Fingers crossed we all aren't going to have some long term problem when we're all out of warranty.

Well, I have the same issue. Heard it a couple months ago, but hasn't effected performance so I just kind of live with it. Not happy about it, but glad I am not the only one with the squeak as it seems to be a common problem. Will continue to watch the thread for fixes.
