Squeak After Shutting Car Off

Anyone else experience this or know what it is? There is a squeak every time I shut off the car, audible from outside the car. Not sure if it's a belt or something else, but it's every time.

If you have the Brake Hold on, the sound you're hearing is probably the actuator for the parking brake (which is automatically set when you have Brake Hold on and turn the car off).

It's a kind of quick acreeching sound, and it comes from the back of the car. My two Optimas have both had it, and I found out it's perfectly normal.

Try making sure Brake Hold is off, then stop the car and turn it off ... you should not hear the sound.

It is the throttle body. Mine is squeaky as hell. With the engine on and hood open, can you quickly pump the gas pedal and create the sound? Mine sounds like a squeaky bed lol

When you turn the engine off, the throttle body closes after everything else stopped so it's a bit louder.

My last one had this on super light throttle movement when parked. This one does not. Might be tough to reproduce for a dealer.

I usually have the parking brake set before I put it in park and turn the car off, so I don't think it's the actuator for that. I pretty much never manually engage the brake hold function during a drive, although it sometimes feels like the car had decided to do so itself.

Electronic parking brake. But it shouldn't be that because the brake is set before I put the car in park and shut it down. It sounds like it's coming from the engine bay.

I'm going to try feathering the throttle when parked to see if the squeak repeats. If so, I think I'll have my answer. Thanks for the insight!

Mine has the same issue. I think @Callum may be right here about the throttle body. But I’m not entirely sure.
I started to notice the squeak sound right after I put my borla exhaust on. So initially I thought it was the boost from the turbos since the exhaust freed up some back pressure.
Do you have an aftermarket exhaust on your car? I’ve heard the same exact squeaking sound in another persons video on YouTube after they got ther borla put on. So I just always thought it was a result from the exhaust swap.

@RobertE my exhaust is stock. It’s pretty obvious it’s the throttle body since it is timed perfectly with throttle movement.

Open the hood, have your significant other pump the pedal and listen. It’ll come from the throttle.

I just tested it out, and it *IS* the f*cking throttle body, lol. Im guessing it just needs to be lubricated?

I don't think there is a good way to lubricate it. I could be wrong though. My local dealer said they can replace it, but know I'm thinking it's a design flaw, etc. I wonder if anybody has a non-squeaky TB lol

I had this at the dealer twice. The first time we couldn’t replicate it. It was very cold outside (for Arizona). Once it warmed up to in the 60s and above the squeak came back and the dealer heard it. It was coming from the passenger side. It was in fact the turbo wastegate. Kia doesn’t want to replace the wastegate so they just replace the turbo. So I am getting a new turbo. No tune or piggyback on my car. Just intakes and SSR midpipes. Dealer gave me no issues with warrantying the turbo.

It is also possible that a squeak on shutdown is caused by a quick, small slip of the accessory belt as the mass of the reciprocating engine suddenly stops.
