We've had att fiber here for over 4 years now. Rates fluctuated each year depending what kind of discount I could negotiate with their loyalty dept. This is where calls gets transferred when you say "cancel service" to their ivr.

Over the last year I was at $39.99. Back in march the $30 discount fell off. This time trying to renegotiate with loyalty dept resulted in nothing. They kept referring to their "straight forward" pricing each time I called ( at least 4 since march), telling me i'm getting their best rate. Over on another site someone suggested reaching out to them using twatter or fb. I chose the latter as I don't have the former.

At first I was offered a $20 discount, but rather than giving in to the first offer I asked about the $30. After some time she came back saying that could be applied. So, why couldn't the same be offered when I called in? I don't care much for either of these platforms, but if I can save $$$, why not. The only caveat now is fb knows about my att account. Given the last post on fb was probably 7 years ago or more, my profile can't be too informative.

tl;dr If you don't get the results you want using regular channels, try social media.

hmmm. Might see if Xfinity will lower my bill. It was $50 a month the first year I had my house, then went up to $70 after the 1 year promotion ended.

Last comcast experience was close to 2 decades ago. I'm sure they too have a loyalty/retention dept. If your area has competition that's even better. We have 2 cable co's and fiber serving this locale.

Tell them to lock you in at that rate. I got ATT Fiber 1gig a few years ago and called to cancel on the one year date, knowing they would give me a better rate. They lowered my payment by 1 CENT (from $70 to $69.99), added in HBO Max for free, and locked my rate in so I wouldn't have to pretend to cancel once a year. I've had the same rate for over 3 years now. Give it a shot.

I am locked in at the $69.99 rate, but $39.99 is preferred over $69.99 ;).

Hbo max is bundled too, but we don't really watch it. Maybe once every few months. I'd gladly accept $15 off (in addition to current discounts) if they would remove it.

Funny you say that, I think they will be removing it soon because AT&T no longer owns HBO. It isn't worth $15 a month to me, so if they get rid of it I'll be renegotiating our deal.

I pay 30$ a month for fiber that's consistently over 2gbs down/up. Gotta love mom and pop run stuff.

It all really depends on who you speak to and the type of call it is

Siriusxm for example, i've always paid ~75/yr after having them match an old promo
This time they got it down to ~50/yr just because of the different rep I got

Or my cable bill, they wouldn't budge on any offers after 3 different calls, so when calling in to cancel so I could switch to a cheaper company they decided to give me a better deal for a year

Seeing these prices for 1gb makes me hate vz fios that much more. I'm paying $80 a month (and that's with a discount for auto pay) for 1gb up/down for ONLY internet and I even recently cancelled my TV/Phone service...which they didn't give a damn about. No offers to keep me, nothing. I even said I could get a better deal with my local cable service...they just said...ok. Sadly my local cable service is Cox and they've always been horrible for me.

Who is your service with?
TDS, but the actual company that owns the lines is a local family and they know the value of fast internet to the masses, so they leased the lines to TDS under the condition that they cant over-charge people for usage. Its awesome.

Our service is internet only too. Cancelled directv back in 2014 and att copper (pots) in 2017. Between google voice and callcentric, annual phone bill for 2 lines is under $50, both are voip services.

2Gbps up/down for $30 a month is a true steal. Of course, that doesn't include all the $$ needed to upgrade the home network to support the faster speeds - firewall (a pc?), switches, nics, etc. Realistically speaking, 300-500 mbps I think is the sweet spot for most households with plenty of bw to spare for a good user experience.

Btw, for those who think voip is crap, don't mock it til you try it. With a decent pipe and good provider, the quality is top notch.

What area does TDS service?

I have all the equipment I need to pull those speeds. I constantly pull 2500/2500mbps on speedtest on my desktop and server at home. I may be getting even more tbh, but all my stuff is running on 2.5 gig network cards.

Gigabit has been sufficient for needs here. If I have to move large quantity of data to the file server I'll just run a cable between the two end points to get 2.5 gbps (both boxes have rtl8125's), otherwise, holding out for 10gbps as the next real upgrade. Prices too high right now, also such devices draw much more power.

Where are you located? No TDS in my area.

They're giving you AT&T gigabit fiber for $39.99? I've had it for almost 4 years (I think I was the first in the neighborhood), and I've always felt $70/month is a steal compared to Comcrap.. Their VOIP line does hurt a bit at $35/month. Would love to get that a little lower. I used sonic.net in the past, but their VOIP service wasn't as good - but maybe with gigabit it's better, compared to the old 50 Mbps (2 bonded DSL lines).

^^Voip uses so little bandwidth, go with your own solution. Usually less than 100kbps/direction per channel (conversation). Voip is sensitive to latency, too much will cause effects like lag.

An ATA (analog telephone adapter) can be had cheap (<$50-100 USD). We have two in the house, an obi200 and obi202. The 202 supports 2 devices, used to drive a fax, now it just supports a secondary handset on the landline number - 2 different calls using the same landline number.

For my own voip use, I have a softphone program installed on the computer. This + the plantronics headset results in excellent call quality. I pay $1/month to callcentric for their inbound service only. Outbound is through google voice.

Voip call in progress.

Paying $100/mo for 400mbps with sepctrum, guess I should try this as well.
Spectrum knows they are the only real service for the majority here. Just have DSL and wireless for other options where I live (select few new developments have fibre to the home, but it would be 10k+ to get it to a different location).

If you're planning on staying put for at least a few more years you might consider Google Fiber. The last place I lived didn't have it but they let me put in a request for it and about six months later they they were finally able to install it at my place.
