So...this happened yesterday (7/10/23).

I would view your car as if it is a completely different option, a different car then you were driving before.
The real cost of buyout is the big factor here.
If you can buy it and fix it for 15-20 and plan to drive it for many years it's worth it .
At that point you are basically paying 20k for a used upper scale car, divided out by X number of years. So totally worth it vs the out of pocket cost of anything else.
If not then walk away because 30-35k for a 5yr old car with almost no resale divided by X years is likely a very poor investment.
That's kinda where I'm putting my mind. I'm reaching out to them to see what the cost is for purchase. Today I've been looking at other cars and the Stinger really did have pretty much all that I wanted. My big thing, for some reason, is the hatch and the giddy up. It got the job done for me.

I've made worse financial decisions...

I know what you mean. I had a geo storm and then 2 1st gen dsm's (eclipse, talon, laser) when younger; hatchbacks are just so versatile without compromising sporty looks.
There was no sedan I liked better than the stinger without getting into RS5 price tag.

Exactly! The funny thing, when I got the Stinger in 2018 it wasn't even on my radar. Now, I can't find anything like it! Well, reasonably priced anyway.

Soooo, as of today, the stinger is totaled. I don't think so, but it's a money game I guess. They offered me $39,300 for it. The car was paid off, so the total is "mine" (and the wife's). One of the things that came up here was keeping her, fixing her up and such. Is that worth it? How much would it cost for me to buy it from Allstate (is it a standard price type of thing)? What about the title, would it show "totaled" or something of that nature? As you can see, this is not my thing. I doubt I'd go into the "fixing up my stinger business", but maybe it would be worth it??

I'm so stuck on the hatchback for some reason. I see a regular trunk and I think, nope! It's not like I'm hauling dead bodies. BUT, I guess the hatchback is my thing now. I was trying to find something similar to the Stinger and I keep coming back to the Stinger for the price and such. Most recently I was looking at the 2023 Ascot Green Tribute...???

By the way, for my "totaled" they are giving me $39,000 and some change. I asked about me keeping the car and they said that they'd "charge" me $17,000...so I doubt I'll go that route. So many options I wasn't expecting a week ago.

17k is too much. Just get another stinger. It wont be a problem with 39k budget.

I said the same thing! I'll probably go with another Stinger. I keep looking at the BMW's and Merc's and Audi's and then I think "above and beyond" costs for the luxury. I'm no fancy boy.

17k is insane. Was it the adjuster that said it would be 17?

Yes, the Allstate adjuster. He said with the technology and blah...that it would be $17,000 and that he wouldn't recommend going that route.

Yeah that's nuts if it's anywhere close to that. Not worth it at all.

the hatch / liftback design is why I own a stinger at all. reading about this car through the winter of its introduction it was the cargo space that grabbed my attention after the obvious attractive lines and performance. if the stinger had everything and was a trunk instead I would never have bought one.

sucks to hear about your Stinger, but glad you're okay. Honestly I would looks for another one (Tribute edition) and call it a day. You know you'll love it, just go for it.

Get a 2019-2020 stinger GT2 with low miles. My wife's 2019 was 40k before TTL when new, but times have changed.

Thank you. Yeah, I was going to keep her for at least another 5 years (2018)...she was paid off and checked all the boxes for me. I think that's what I'm going to do. I keep looking at the competitors (Audi A5, BMW 4 series grand coupe and the Genesis G70 and etc) and I keep thinking..."but what if I don't like it??" I know I loved my Stinger. Now, I gotta work on pricing and probably shuttling one into Vegas as there appears to be relatively zippo in the valley.

I was just this morning checking out the ksl cars listings from 2020 to 2022, $15,000 to $45,000, 5,000 miles through 200,000 miles, and there were 22 listings within 200 miles of salt lake city. so, that should give you an idea. there are plenty of stingers for sale just now.

My bro had a 91 Talon TSi AWD. Fun car.

I think the Stinger just got that butter zone of features vs specs vs price. I love this car and everyone who's ridden in my car is impressed... Mostly with the ventilated seats to be honest
