Left the movie theatre just a little ago and happen to run into a Mustang at the light and he asked if I wanted to run it. Of course, I’ll run...especially from a stop. Light turns green and I lay into the pedal and the Stinger is like a 80-HP 1980s Honda off the line.

So I learned two things tonight. One, the computer is in complete control and it doesn’t like to go after cold starts. Secondly, ISG was on and actually active which is a complete race killer. I never turn it off, but now I’ll have to remember to when racing.

The Mustang wasn’t stock and while it has at minimum 100 more horsepower than what I have...I expected so much more off the line.

Guess the Stinger needs a piggyback now.

Should have used launch control.
Didn’t think I would need it. Now I wonder if it would really make a difference after cold starts. The computer controls it all.

I’m a Mustang guy, have always owned them and still own one. I’ve never had a car where the computer is in such control. Something I’ll need to learn.

You raced when the car wasn’t warmed up or on (ISG active) against a modified car that is faster than the Stinger stock and your upset you lost?

Upset about losing to a Mustang...nope. What I am upset about is the features/computer controlling the car and me not realizing it. Like I mentioned above, I had no idea the car would be such crap off the line. Anytime I’ve laid into the car in the past, it was always warmed up.

This is a good learning experience for me and a heads up to others.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
The 2018s run 11s STOCK. So even if he didn't have any mods you'd need more than just a piggyback to beat him.

Maybe a JB4 w/map 3 running +6psi, full exhaust, and drag radials.

The GT with the 10 speed auto 11.83 @ 119.5 mph

Thanks for the info!

Looks like the fastest 1/4 mile run stinger stock was 12.6?

Chose my Stinger over a 2018 Mustang GT...no regrets. Eh, series of unfortunate events here...light to light in an AWD should make em sweat for a bit, I would think...good times.

AWD is slower than RWD in stock form.

honestly, it isn't about beating a mustang, even though a couple of guys in australia raced a gt against a gt and the stinger won. i have also owned mustangs, and i love the power, but, it really isn't the most comfortable car. so, my thinking is, if i can make them sweat as i run up behind them and give them a run for their money, the loss outweighs what the other guy is feeling when he realizes that a four door hung with his mustang.

The Mustang is not exactly a well-integrated long distance touring car, it's a kid's street racer of sorts except that it's too expensive in full GT trim for most kids to buy. Last one I had was a '67 which was a real rattle-trap, but they are to be admired for their perseverance. I don't have many favorable memories of mine - bought new in '67 and sold in '01 after being used by both kids for college transportation.

I'm unaware of that. If so that's a great time for a stock Stinger. You have a link?

That was a 2015 Mustang with manual transmission. It isn't comparable to the new GTs with their 10 speed auto.

Yeah but remember what we get to drive and live with versus what the other 10 million Mustang owners have to live with. We drive a Stinger, they just have to drive.............that. I've driven them and they are uncomfortable as hell to me and nowhere near what we have in the Stinger, in my opinion. However, as Bear noted, he was on a cold start and had ISG on (seriously, how could you forget to turn that off lol), which is typically the 2nd button I press after Start. I'm sure Bear was more comfortable and enjoys the ride better anyway.

A Mustang has never impressed me, will never impress me, and is never anything I would hope/dream/plan to own. It could be the fact that every loud-mouthed douche with a cut off exhaust drives a Mustang and I'm jaded, but it's just not an impressive car to me.

The only reason I went with the Stinger over the Mustang was the AWD. The new Mustangs (S550) are a much smoother ride than the previous generation (S197). When they went from the solid axle rear ends to the independent suspension it became a much better GT. They just don't do well in snow which is why I wanted the Stinger for a daily driver.

Former, and current Mustang owner and fan. Love my Mustangs but got the Stinger over anything else for one reason. I just love how it looks!!! No regrets. I don't see the cars as competitors, the are so different (to me at least). But then again I was "cross-shopping" everything from a Charger Scat Pack to an BMW M2. Also looked at Q50, STI, and MB C300. Yeah I was all over the place. Was driving the wife crazy.
