Snowshoes

Road surface is a huge factor, where I am they plow the road regularly in the winter which makes the surface very bumpy and it creates a ton of noise on any tire with a hard compound, winter tires actually fair decently here because the compound is so soft.

That makes sense. You have a noisy ride anyway, but the softer compound quiets what a summer tire would transmit to the cabin. I can't see any advantage to running a summer tire if your roads are bumpy and noisy.

+40 offset won’t clear the Brembos in the front with 18 inch wheels. +30 works

Mine are +38, fit fine. Really dang close, but they fit.

I fully expect my Ice X3 winter tires will be a lot quieter than my pilot sport 4 tires.
They are - considerably.

Very, very pleased with these tires - since putting them on, we've had the full gamut of road conditions from ice and snow to slush, wet, and bare and dry (both cold and warm). Temps have ranged from well below freezing (0C) to around +20C (close to 70F), and the tires work (and sound) great.

Beautiful weather this week, so I'm switching to the convertible for the foreseeable future - enjoy it while I can!

They've been good to me as well, a bit quieter at speed, and they handle just as well for normal driving... They don't do well with WOT on the RWD model though. Lots of stepping out in the back that needs manual correction.

Way more fun than the boring straight acceleration with the summer tires though!

Put my snows on yesterday. I ended up going with the Hercules Avalanche RT’s. They are new this year so not many reviews at all. They are aggressive looking which had me thinking they might be loud but I haven’t noticed much of a difference between stock.

Tires were $140/tire 225 45 18 plus $50 rebate
Wheels were $170/wheel Fast Switch

On a side note I have driven about 100 km and the TPMS hasn’t turned on and I did not install TPMS on the winter set up.

What offset are those +30?

Whats the lugnut torque to use with 18x8 wheels? 95ft/lbs?

Okay, I am more intrigued than ever over this noise issue. All my driving career I have assumed, and thought I noticed, that aggressive tread patterns are noisier than smoother tread. So it is a given that winter tires are noisier than summer or even A/S tires. Someone said, just before I bought mine, that Nitto Motivo A/S UHP would be quieter than the Michelin PSS summers. The reviews/comments on the Motivos tended toward "quieter" as well. I bought a set. And the first drive I noticed they were quieter. Well, dog my cats! I loved it. The Pirelli winter tires are reported to be quieter than the summer tires they replaced (this was just said here in the last two days). So which is it: quieter or noisier? And if both are true, what is making the difference here?
I think it's also hard to compare noise when replacing worn tires with new tires. New tires might be quieter because they haven't experienced strange wear patterns or hardening from heat cycles, etc.

The Icex3's are a lot quieter and provide a much softer ride than the Pilot Sport 4. Handling and stability is down which I expected but man are my winter wheels ever lighter than the OEM one's especially the rears.

Anyone foresee any issues with the Fast Wheels Dime wheel? The FC04 is essentially back-ordered until Mid-November so I need to find another option:

Fast Wheels Dime

Those are the same specs as my Fast Switch wheels, just not hubcentric so you might need some cheap centering rings.

Ahh, that's simple enough. Thanks!

The FC04 would also need the centering rings, right? The bore size appears to be identical on both.

Yup FC04 needs them, i installed mine last night using them, its a minor inconvenience during install.
