since i picked up my 2023 stinger apple car play as been unusable, Maps has a delay of over 1 mile no joke cant do anything without significant touch delays. My 2020 hyundai sonata car play worked flawlessly ive dont full factory reset and still no progress. Has kia even acknowledged this is an issue being worked on?

Seen numerous people say on here that Apple Car Play doesn't work very well. I can't comment as I'm using Android and so far it works great. I also don't use the built in nav. I occasionally have an issue where it acts like the car is stopped and then suddenly catches up to where I am...then stops again...then catches up. Just found out that it's the GPS on my phone. When it's on the wireless charging pad area sometimes if it doesn't have a good GPS lock it'll do that. If I move it...the problem goes away.

do you use the factory wireless charger? if so, maybe you air fried your phone

Not sure if that was directed at me or the OP. Definitely not the factory wireless charger frying my phone. Although I did notice when I disabled high speed wireless charging my phone doesn't get anywhere near as hot as it does with high speed charging. But the GPS issues also happens even when it's not charging via wireless. I think it just happens when it needs calibration and can't get a decent enough lock on GPS while it's got all of that stuff in the dash in the way. Usually after a calibration I don't have that issue.

How do you do such a thing?
Which phone model allows for GPS calibration?

Android. It's actually not GPS calibration, it's compass calibration. Apologies for not being clear about that. Usually when your compass is out of whack if you go into maps or something of the sort it should ask if you want to calibrate. There's another way to force it but I can't recall what it is. Oddly enough it can also help with getting a better GPS lock it seems. Most of my old phones wanted you to turn the phone so it's in landscape orientation and vertically, then sorta make a figure 8 motion with it. My S22 though wants to use the camera to use your surroundings to calibrate the compass.

^^^ Recalibrating the car's compass is detailed in the manual. I haven't done it (just live with my compass being off when I go several states away, until I get back home). It is the silliest sounding thing: you do circles in some arrangement that I don't recall now: it reads like instructions from The Ministry of Silly Walks.

Compass calibration has nothing to do with GPS reception.

Android auto does not use your phones compass at all, for anything.

If calibrating your compass gives you better results on android auto - it's 100% a coincidence.

Wait... So you drive around in circles resembling the infinity symbol - ∞ ?

That's awesome!

Are you 100% positive about that? I've read it could use the GPS from the car OR from the phone, though it's supposed to prefer the cars GPS. I do find it very strange that the second I pull the phone out of the phone storage area that I have no issues with GPS. What's stranger, I only notice this with Waze. If I switch to Google Maps I don't experience the issue. Could it be possible that Waze uses the phones GPS and Google Maps is smart enough to use the cars? I'll have to check the phone next time to see if the phone is reporting that it's using its GPS instead of the car.

I don't think he realized we were talking about the compass on the phone, not the car. Or he chose to just talk about the cars compass. Who knows.

Truth be told, I've done that exercise a number of times with the phone. It does work to recalibrate back to pointing properly. I would think the car would recalibrate itself as one effectively does drive around in circles getting to and from places (if you consider all the turns).

I was even reading the thread as it unfolds: and must have dozed off, 'cause I thought that the car's compass was mentioned: and now when I read back over the conversation I don't see a thing that would make me think that, now. Now you know. :P

I just checked. While running AA and Waze, my phone's GPS/location icon pops up at the top and when I check location services on my phone it shows me Waze is currently using it. So I'm guessing it is using my phones GPS and not the cars.

As for the compass....I'm sure the compass on the car isn't using the compass on the phone. But a calibrated compass on the phone does assist not only with direction you're pointing but also assists with acquiring GPS. I know it used to use the cellular service to do the same back in the day. Not sure if they still do that or not. So considering AA is using the phones GPS, it technically uses the phones compass.

Just tried it and it says it's not yet available. Guess the actual download isn't ready yet, even though they claim in the list of vehicles that the most recent update is available for includes the 2023.

The direction the phone is pointing does not affect the navigation in the car through AA.

Nor does it assist with GPS reception. You can place magnets all around your phone defeating all magnetic compass sensors on your phone, and your GPS will still work fine.

AA does not technically or non technically use the phones magnetic compass for anything at all.
