Seriously wtf is going on @KIA

The direction the phone is pointing does not affect the navigation in the car through AA.

Nor does it assist with GPS reception. You can place magnets all around your phone defeating all magnetic compass sensors on your phone, and your GPS will still work fine.

AA does not technically or non technically use the phones magnetic compass for anything at all.
Then why in the world when I'm sitting still and going no where does waze suddenly think I spun around 180 degrees...while I'm at a dead stop? I can't imagine it's the cars compass causing that.

As I mentioned earlier. It seems Waze uses the phone GPS. Google Maps uses the car GPS if the cars head unit allows AA to use it. Apps that use the phone GPS also use the phone compass. That's why if your compass isn't calibrated the Waze map will occasionally spin until you start driving. I've even had moments were the compass was so out of whack that while I was driving it kept assuming I was turning down side streets.....yes...while using Waze in AA.

GPS drift.

Since AA does not, and can not use the phones magnetic compass, any small GPS drift will cause it to think you are facing an incorrect direction.

Correct, car orientation is determined by movement reported by GPS. If the location drifts a small distance (feet), it will interpret it to think you are moving in that direction.

Makes sense. Still blows that Waze through AA uses the phone GPS and not the cars GPS.

It makes sense that it works that way, though. A lot don'trs don't have any GPS built in, so the only GPS available would be from the phone.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
True, but technically AA is supposed to be able to use the cars GPS if it's available, but I believe 1) that the head unit has to allow it and 2) the app needs to support it. Waze apparently has never supported it where as Google Maps does. Only reason I use Waze is because traffic here can be very unpredictable and well....cops galore.

Well I just i updated my 2020 Stinger GT Limited to the latest map update for Canada and I seem to have lost the screen to change from Kilometers to Miles. I even installed it again and screen still isn't there. I can change the temp from C to F so did they move the screen to where you change the screen between Kilometers and MPH ? All info appreciated as we leave in a few days for Las Vegas and I would really like to use MPH in the USA , Thanks All
