I drove my stinger for a couple hours yesterday, and it was pretty uncomfortable for two reasons. The main issue is the seats are designed for shorter people (as is the roof height). My shoulders are against the head rest. I'll probably just find some custom seats that sit lower in the vehicle, as I prefer to sit upright, rather than reclined--which I have to do in the Stinger.

I also found the seats to be quite warm. I wonder if this is due to the seat skin or the the stuffing in the seat. My previous car was a Saab, and the pleather seats were very comfortable and did not get hot (I regularly drove 8+ hour stretches in it). I never understood why people didn't like long drives until driving the Stinger for a couple hours. I'd say if you have a longer torso, unless you're replacing the seats, the car is probably not good for long drives.

I became interested in Kia when I tried their Forte5 at an autoshow a couple years ago. I can't fit in Audi's or most non-American cars, and was thinking that when a more powerful Forte5 came out, I'd buy that. I was told the Stinger had as much headroom as a Forte5, but it's as short as a Audi. Maybe the seats in the Forte5 are the difference, and could be drop-in replacements for the Stinger.

This is a serious question, do you like anything about this car?

Also did you test drive it before you bought it?

Yup, I love the performance, and think it looks great too. It has the best steering feel of any car I've driven outside of a Renault Sport (very important to me). Finding a new seat isn't a big deal.

Unfortunately, taking it for a 3 hour test drive wasn't an option.

I found the specs for the Forte5. The headroom is 39.4", so 1.2" more than the Stinger. The Forte sedan has the same headroom as a Stinger. That 1.1" would help a lot, so my guess is the Forte5 seat might not work, then. I'm guessing that seat rests a bit lower, in terms of cushion size, because there was at least 2" more headroom in the Forte5 I sat in at the autoshow.

Seat warmth (in any car) is why I will now only own cars with cooled or ventilated seats. Thus it will be the GT2 for me.

I feel some discomfort in my shoulders, too, in the Stinger. Not a whole lot, but I do have to recline the seat back more to be comfortable. I'm 6'3"...how tall are you?

I’m 6’1” no issues

I hope you got the sunroof for your head to stick out!

But seriously, I said to my buddy who is about 6'3, this car is made for a guy like me... 5'8 (on my tippy toes). It has room, but in my opinion it almost feels like it's a stretched out 2 door sports car made into a 4 door. BUT...I love it for me! The silky silver glass slipper fits!!

I'm just over 6' and have no issues. Plenty of headroom to go in my car. Try putting the seat lower, it'll reduce visibility slightly up front but it's a fairly long front car so front visibility is always going to be an issue even with the seat higher up.

I'm 6'3" and find it very comfortable. Proportionally, a lot of that is legs so it's not comfortable to sit behind me.

Holy cow how tall are you!

I'm only 6', but I have an unusually long torso. For example, I have a friend who is the same height as me, his inseam is 32", but mine is 29", so my torso is 3" longer. We actually went to the autoshow together, tried a bunch of cars. By the end he said, "Well, I guess you've got two options, an American car or a Kia." It seems the Forte5 has the highest headroom of any Kia, at least those that aren't Stupid Urbanite Vehicles.

With the sunroof I can sit upright. The issue is the increased road noise and if I hit a slight bump my head would be smacking glass. My hair is pressed against the glass, but my skull isn't touching it. If the sunshade is pulled back, then it's the same as the others, in terms of height.

Holy moly man, how do you even get in the car?

Carefully. Very carefully.

I haven't experienced seats that were hot before, so will say that cooling function is a definite edge the GT2 has on the rest.

Try putting the seat lower

If only it could go lower. As you can imagine, I lower a cars seats to their lowest setting before attempting to sit in any car.

Yeah, I think my torso is considerably longer than most people who are 6'3. The height is often in the legs.

I read a review last night of the Stinger in car and driver which mentioned that for those with longer torso's, the BMW 3 series has 2" more headroom. I've not sat in a BMW before, and never wanted to be associated with Bad Motorists Worldwide. Hopefully a 3rd party seat that's lower will sort the issue. I emailed Recaro.

Just be careful with a 3rd party seat. I believe the Stinger has an airbag inside of the seat so replacing it could be 1: a safety issue and 2: cause the airbag light to constantly be on.

Yes, that's certainly something I'd considered. It might require some mechanical voodo on the connection for the seat. I don't think any 3rd party seat I'd get would have the side airbags in it.

Nothing like a cooled butt on a hot day! Lol
.............see , right there !! always bringing it up ....................geezuzz !!

Today I tried moving the seat back a fair amount, much farther than I'd normally sit. That opened up a bit of headroom, and allowed me to make my seat a bit more upright. I also pushed the lumbar support all the way back, and it was much more comfortable. The main issue now is with the "shoulder" padding against my back, but that may lose fluff with time, or I might just open the seat and take some out. I can live with it now, so I don't think a new seat will be necessary. The seat was much less hot with the "lumbar" (which at it's highest position isn't anywhere near my lumbar) support fully retracted as well.
