Red GT2 - Sad day :(

Sad, but a car is replaceable. I would bet it will be totaled. If the airbags deployed, there will be to much mechanical and body damage to put it back together. Salvaging the wheels would be a good idea - sometimes the insurance company will sell you back the wreck for what they can sell it do a dismantler for. Worth asking if in fact they do total it. Good luck on your new 2019 :).
I second this. I believe totaled as well, especially if 6 airbags went off. Def see what they will sell it back for, most insurance will net that against the payment check and hopefully you have GAP as well. You could easily make the sell back amount via parting it out. Interior and wheels, and any undamaged engine components. Based on the pics, i would say a good chance the actual engine was ok?

If you are mechanically inclined and have a place to store and part, i have a feeling you could sell most of the car online. Red interior, if you have, would also be a "hot" item.

Best of luck and happy to see no serious injuries!

He already has dibbs on the wheels if he buys it back....which I think is a crock, btw. But yeah the wheels and tires can fetch over 2,grand....finding another 40 k in parts....good luck, I already depreciated the car 10 k.

I would probably push them to total it, especially if your policy pays original MSRP in the case of a write off in the first 24 months (this is common in canada). You probably dont want to have that car fixed.

...looks like you ran into the back of somebody, which doesn't speak well for the safety systems.

Looks like it was a collision with a taller car, so it's likely that the Stinger went underneath and is the more damaged vehicle. Looks like a relatively low speed collision with a taller car with a mismatched bumper, so likely a big truck, semi, etc.

@tweakedxvi, fully understood that you probably shouldn't provide too many details at this point, but please update us later on when you can. Since this is a GT2, I'd be very interested to hear if or how successfully FCA operated. Perhaps the taller vehicle theory is accurate, but I would expect detection to have still occurred. I notice you don't have a drilled bumper, so perhaps there was an externally mounted plate obstructing a sensor. Perhaps it was only a low speed impact because FCA successfully intervened. Or, perhaps, FCA was disabled (I know some people hate it), but I'd have to wonder if insurance companies take a position on safety systems being turned off.

Edit: Sorry for so many acronym expansions; the forum software adds them automatically.

Thanks, too, for the 911 dialer recommendation. I've historically always seen the red 911 icon in the upper right of the display when I'm connected via Bluetooth, but I will now go check to see if it's there when I'm wired-in for Car Play. (The manual says on page 4-7 that 911 Connect requires Bluetooth.)

Update!

Picked up a new Red GT2 Saturday! Gave the new one a thorough look over and found it has the much talked about paint chip on the driver side headlight but getting the dealer to take care of that for me. New Stinger script badge and E badge are on order.

Insurance decided the car was totaled given that we were looking at over 22k in parts and labor but did give me a fair value on the car considering I was just under 5k miles with about 3 months of ownership.

To those curious, dash cam was running and caught the whole thing but doesn't look like I'm able to post the video here as a new member. Breaks were applied just prior to impact and based on the cam, there was no indication that collision detection engaged due to how fast things happened.

I will reiterate that I'm happy the car did what it was supposed to and protected myself and my passenger. The car remained in the lane we were traveling in and absorbed the brunt of the impact thanks to good design and engineering.

I also have additional pictures of the car at the tow yard if anyone is interested. Unfortunately i was not in a position to buy back what was left and everything has been signed over to insurance. Not sure where everything is going to end up :/

good job !!

I'm sure there is a few ppl interested in some parts

The wheels look like they are in great condition although they look like 18's, the salvage yard will sell the parts soon enough.

Sorry to see that happen. Looks like the car protected you well!

I’d be interested in seeing if you can one of the headlights. I’m wanting to mess with one, see what can be done

car will go to the highest bidder. it goes to auction after the insurance company buys it.

Does that mean you applied the brakes, or FCA did? Thanks for the update, and glad you were able to get a new car so quickly.

A lot of the car looks salvageable. Oh well, not your problem. You got a new car and that would've been my preferred outcome over a repair. Would've sucked if your car was heavily modified already though - I would try to take back as much of those mods as I can :)

Glad to see you were able to get into another Stinger.

For the video you will need to upload it to a platform like youtube or vimeo. After you have uploaded the video, get the link for it and paste it here.

Holy crap!!! Moron delux!!!!

I saw something like this, just last week, only avoided by defensive driving on the part of everyone else in the vicinity. Picture two side-by-side left turn lanes, heavy traffic turning left in both, and the OUTSIDE idiot in front swings all the way across the inside left turn lane and does a "U" turn. If the inside driver in front had not stopped s/he would have T-boned the U-turner. A slow speed accident, to be sure, but still, would have been ruined cars all around.

Thanks for posting this. I said to my wife: "I don't know if I want to watch this one." But I did anyway, half a dozen times. Unfreakingbelievable. I hope that driver got the entire book thrown at them for that stunt.
