I have read many threads in here, including the sticky thread, about brake pads, rotors, the vibration while braking, etc, but none seem to quite fit what I'm looking for. It's time for me to replace my rear brake pads and I will probably do the rotors while I'm in there, as the car has 81k miles on it now. The thing is most of the posts that I have found and read through are people asking to upgrade their brake systems, and usually they have cars that are far beyond stock. My car is pretty much stock, so I don't need race brakes or anything super high performance, mine is just a daily driver that is fun to drive, not anything that ever sees a track or anything.

Having said that, my question is, what would you recommend for rear brake pads and rotors and where are you buying them from? I looked on Rock Auto, and they have some of the pads that I see referenced in the other threads (like the Z26), but they say "without Brembo brakes", which mine has. I'm not trying to buy the cheapest thing out there, I buy from the higher grade items all the time, I just don't want to spend a ton of extra money on brakes for race applications when my car does mostly highway driving.

Are slotted rotors worth the extra money for a car like mine also?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as my passenger side rear pad sounds like it's starting to get to the tabs. Thanks in advance, I have only had my car since March but it's a lot of fun to drive, and I have already learned a bunch from people in this group so I appreciate it!!

Kia aren't dumb. They didn't put the cheapest brakes on. They fit. They work. They are tested. They are warrantied.

You are driving around on genuine Kia OEM products tried and tested. Stick with those.

Kia doesn't want 10,000 cars coming back with brake problems under warranty. What they choose works.

If your rotors are within spec (28mm minimum) and not giving you any worries I would keep them as-is. No reason to replace them otherwise.

I loved my Z26 pads and will be going back to them once my DFC 5000 wear out. They both have the clunk, but I hear the newer Z26 batches fixed that, and I found the Z26 pads to be smoother, quieter and more predictable of the two. I bought them all from rockauto.

No.

These rear pads are for your Brembo brakes!

Meaning just go buy them from the dealer? Or can I get the OEM pads somewhere else?

See when I find that exact part number pads, it says specifically not for Brembo brakes:

2144 is the correct one for rear Brembo brakes..
Im guessing it's an error on rockauto. They should be me to wear so they can correct it

Ask Kia why they chose Brembo and not a product half the price.

Shop around for the same product. Don't have to get it from a dealer.

Might be able to buy from Brembo directly - not sure about country specific.

**EDIT. I think I highlighted the part number associated with the non Brembo rear calipers, pads... But for some reason they are listed as available on the Brembo website!

I just checked my order history on rockauto:

-POWER STOP Z262144 (High Performance) Z26 Street Warrior; Carbon-Fiber Ceramic; Includes Hardware Info
Rear; w/o Brembo Brakes
-POWER STOP Z266012 (High Performance) Z26 Street Warrior; Carbon-Fiber Ceramic; Includes Hardware Info
Front; w/o Brembo Brakes

I've got the GT2 Elite WITH brembos so they definitely work. Guessing it's a typo.

if you oem rotors havnt warp yet. keep them, service them and replace the oem pads immediately with high quality pads. like ebc, DBA, powerstop and ext.

if you rotors already warp. dont waste your time and money resurface them. get a new set with pads. And yes go with slotted, drilled or both and directional. If ur area snows and very cold, do not recommand drilled.

If you want up another level, go with floating rotors.

That's what I was hoping to hear.

Thank you to everyone who responded, I'm going to try out the Z26 pads and rotors. I'll update everyone with how it goes once I get them and get them installed. Appreciate all the feedback, still learning this car.

You said you were just doing the rears. We're the fronts replaced already (they usually go first)?

Anyway, I just had the Z23s installed (which are the same roots and pads as the Z26s) and they clamp like crazy compared to the OEMs did (with 60K miles on them). And, from what I remember, they are better than the OEMs when they were new.

I bought mine (front and rear) from Jegs for about $500.

Let us know if you notice a clunk when going dron forward to reverse. Curious if the new Z26 batches have fixed it.

ur right. some z26 front pads do have that issue.

The thing is my DFC pads have it too, so it's not just a PowerStop issue. My guess is they/the spec didn't account for the added shim dimensions. Who knows...

Whoever thinks that the original Kia pads are good is totally wrong! I have many posts on this forum going back to 2019 re brakes.
I recently replaced all the rotors and pads on my 2020 GT2 AWD from the local Auto parts store in N.J.
They put the information in the computer which gave to correct replacement parts number, when to a local garage and magic! no shaking no shuddering, shorter stopping distance.
This is my 3rd GT2 AWD and had brake problems from the first one and Kia was useless in helping my problem.
To summarize..... whatever you do do not use the original pads.

This is what I bought, I plan on installing them this weekend. I'm only doing the rears for now, I plan on doing the fronts as well in the near future so they are all the same. I'll let yall know if they make the clunk noise or not. Thanks again for all the help, this forum has been great so far!
