Emotional, sportive, aggressive – this is how the Kia Stinger GT presents itself. The media is thrilled, but RaceChip wonders: Is that already everything? Or is there even more potential in this Korean car? Therefore RaceChip took a closer look at the Kia Stinger GT, with the goal to unleash its true potential.

Untapped potential for future Kia Stinger GTR
Soon after the release of the Stinger GT, rumors about an even stronger version of the 3.3 liter V6 arose. Albert Biermann, Hyundai-Kia’s performance chief, commented these rumors in an interview with Motoring. He admitted that “the car technically has more potential no doubt”, but added that “at this point there is no plan to do more”. He first wants to establish a customer base before “maybe next steps can happen”.

Power potential unleashed
Car enthusiasts are dying to experience the full potential of the Kia Stinger. “The engine base of the Stinger has the perfect conditions for us to unlock its power reserves. Why should we wait?” comments Dirk Bongardt, COO and head of product development at RaceChip. “RaceChip is specialized in exploiting the full power potential of cars” he explains. “So, we had to get our hands on the untapped potential of the Stinger GT”. The results are remarkable.

422 horsepower up from 365 horsepower stock. 508 lb-ft of torque up from 376 lb-ft of torque stock.

The adaptation and development of the chip took place directly on the RaceChip dyno, plus intensive test drives for further fine-tuning were added. RaceChip was able to increase the performance from 365 PS (370 PS) and 376 lb-ft (510 Nm) to 422 PS (428 PS) and 508 lb-ft (689 Nm). So, while the Stinger starts a new era for Kia, the RaceChip GTS Black already starts a new era for the Stinger GT. With the optional Smartphone App, drivers can select different driving modes or turn the tuning off with just one fingertip. To completely turn the Stinger GT to a full-blooded sports car, RaceChip also developed the throttle controller XLR. The XLR also comes with optional app control and shortens the response time of the Stinger. The performance parts will soon be available right here in our store...

Yeah, my 3.0d Twin-Turbo Jag had 700! And that was a Diesel!! OK I could tune to 770 but that engine is still that's going to be fun with the combination of PS and Nm!

Anyone have an idea if/when I'd be able to buy in the UK ?

How are they calculating that TQ number?

They are using stock CRANK HP and TQ numbers and comparing them to their modified output. I’m assuming they are calculating their Crank HP and TQ gains from a wheel HP and TQ number and estimating a drivedtrain loss.

A 60hp inscrease is one thing a 120ft/lbs increase is another.

Yes but 0-100 is actually 62mph. In addition they were using Winter Tyres and not Summer Tyres.

So the figures are impressive.

With Diesel you usually get higher torque numbers. One of our recent showcars, a Porsche Panamera 4s Diesel, reached 1050 Nm (774 lb-ft).

In Europe, it is standard to measure the engine output, which is roughly speaking wheel horsepower plus powertrain loss.

You are right, many dynos just calculate the power loss. This is not accurate. Only few dynos, such as our MAHA dyno, really measure the power loss. Therefore, directly after the wheel horsepower measurement, a coast down test (deceleration test) is conducted. This test measures the power loss accurately. Naturally, several factors affect the power loss (e.g. AWD or how firm the vehicle is fixed on the dyno).

What is required to use and install this mod?

You need a Kia Stinger GT ;)

Jokes apart, we develop our products for cars in stock condition. This means you don't need anything else than your car and the package we send you. The package includes the RaceChip, an OEM-grade wiring loom and anything else that is necessary for the DIY installation.

Do you have an estimate on price yet? And are there any installation videos or documents available yet?

I understand that, hence why I was surprised the Stinger came so close to my Diesel Jag !

I knew the 3.3TT engine Kia used was good on torque, but impressed it's so high!
