Okay guys, have not checked in for a bit. These are the pros of tuning your ecu over a piggyback chip. Yes, it is more expensive. Yes, it is a bigger hassle because of downtime. Yes, your results will be BETTER! Please do not ask any questions on the settings we make, I will not answer these questions. As tuners, we cannot reveal our proprietary development. I can say we have accumulated 20k miles on the cars we are following with our tunes and everyone is happy and have achieved serious results. And..... we are still running stock plugs!
The password encryption on this engine management is very thorough.
I have come across 2 different encryptions, 1st took me 2 days to crack. This car was born beginning of February 2018. The next 5 stingers had this same encryption to wake up to retrieve password. The 2nd encryption, took me 3 days (this car was born at beginning of July) in house with no luck. I was already heading to Europe for continuing education, so i carried this ecu with me. I met with a colleague in Florence, Italy to work with his equipment and we got it cracked in a matter of hours. So far, these 2 encryptions are all we have seen and they seem to be divided by up to 6/2018 and 7/2018 to current. Im working on getting a 2019 in to see if they have changed anything again.
But cracking it is highly beneficial to make the best possible tune. Running piggybacks you cannot control your limits for safety because they emulate signals by whatever map you choose in the piggyback. Yes, you can achieve pretty nice gains but you also can cause damage. We map our ecus so they can run hard, very hard, but at the same time keep it safe.
In example, with an ecu tune, you can map the lamda to keep safe stoichiometric ratios. We cannot share any details on this of course, but we make it so it does not lean or richen past the max efficiency. Especially safety limits for lean, this where you can blow
spark plugs, put holes in pistons, etc... also, you cannot map timing in piggybacks and this is a VERY important part of tuning!
