Please update the firmware so that drive mode is maintained on restart

That’s interesting about your Audi’s,my 2013 SQ5 doesn’t do that. Whatever I set it to is what it stays set at unles I actually change it via drive select. Mines always set on invidual(normal engine, steering, gearbox and Dynamic exhaust). Pity there isn’t a program like VAGCOM then you might be able to make your own changes to the Stingers settings.

Did you buy your SQ5 new? Chances are someone modified it to behave that way. Audi's default has always been to go back to "Auto" or "Drive". You can change the default setting using VCDS. I did this on my '09 A5 before I sold it because just like the Stinger, it annoyed me that it didn't remember my settings. My 2010 A4 Avant also defaults back to "Auto".

I'd also like the option to have the car remember the drive mode.

My 2018 S5 remembers the drive mode setting and it's as stock as it gets. If I'm in Dynamic when I shut it down, it'll be in Dynamic when I start it up the next day. Surprised me - previous 2015 Mustang and 2012 328i all defaulted to normal upon startup.

Maybe the S/SQ models are different?
Pure speculation on my part, as I never owned or even test drove one.
I had a 2014 A6 on a 3 year lease, and before before 24th month they called me and rolled me into a 2016 A6.
We have a 2017 A7 now.

All of those 3 would reset to normal "D" mode, and I would set to "S" mode after firing up the motor.

Anyway the topic here is Stinger, not Audi, and I would love it it if the Stinger would allow me to default to Sport mode, but I suspect USA requirements for MPG make them default to more fuel friendly setting. I don't much mind setting it to Sport mode when I want it. Even in Comfort mode, when I press the gas pedal, the Stinger zoooooooooooooms compare to any prior car I owned/leased.

D/S mode is different than the drive select mode. My last car was a 2016 S3 - if I left it in dynamic it would restart in dynamic BUT it would not start with the transmission in S mode (dynamic puts it in S).

Exactly! Both the A6 and Q7 will not default to Sport (S) mode, which makes a huge difference in the way the car drives/accelerates. Have to change it every time the motor starts.

Most cars usually start in Normal or ECO (if a hybrid), if you have one that has setting for your suspension (sometimes steering as well) different from the engine/transmission, you can have the suspension (steering) in Dynamic/Sport all the time but will have to switch the engine/transmission setting after starting up. Of course some cars don't actually have the option to adjust the suspension, it is just making the steering heavier for it to feel sporty.

Add my vote/request/recommendation/wish for the drive mode to be retained, preferably by driver but will take what I can get :)

Yes mate I bought mine brand new and no one has modified the settings in it. Whatever I set my drive select to in the drive select menu is how it will stay. If I pick Dynamic it will always start up and stay in dynamic etc etc(all the SQ5s do this. All the RS models I’ve driven do the same as my SQ5.

The only thing that annoys me is that the stop/start function always resets to the default setting when the car is turned off. I turn it off every time I turn the SQ on. If I could have been bothered I should have gotten someone with the VAGCOM program to change it so the default is the off position.

In a lot of countries car related taxes are related to grammes of CO2.
Main reason recommended tyre pressures went up with annoying warnings if you choose to stick with lower pressures, start/stop and default ECO mode being default/compulsory at startup. Else the base price of the car would be higher and sales less.
There will be no update with a mode-memory.

Comfort is my default mode.

I DO know that if you put it on ECO and turn it off it will stay on ECO, but not Sport, Smart, Custom.

Probably a country thing, so fixable, but is warranty voided if you do???

And here I was thinking I was dumb and just couldn't figure out HOW to save it for next time I got into the car... it never even dawned on me that you couldn't save it. Looks like I'll be in Comfort most of the time then, except for when the kids beg me to put it into Sport at a red light.

While it's annoying that it will not let you set the mode as default when vehicle is started, you would think that smart mode would have been the default since its whole point is to have it dynamically adjust between the modes.

However it would be awesome to just be able to select which mode is the default.

There is definitly some tweaking to the system Kia could do. They have many things that the driver settings button "remembers" would be great to add auto hold brakes, stop light engine on/off and drive mode settings.

First, if you don't have differences programmed into "Custom" then you won't see differences at all.

Second, it's NOT just two clicks, it's systemic and requires two clicks for drive mode, push a damn button (usually after the engine shuts itself off, using the starter needlessly) to disable start/ stop waste of time marketing BS mode, push the cruise system "on" button (really, I've never had a car I had to power up the cruise control every time -- I'm not asking it to remember what speed I want to drive, but it's an extra button to push), then do the things that change like seat heat/ cooling, steering wheel heat, etc. Why is the checklist for starting this car like getting ready to taxi an aircraft? No excuse, it should be "push the start button and change anything YOU want to as needed". Period. At least it remembers my radio station.

Don't get me wrong, I love the car but it drives me crazy every time the engine stops by itself.

My buddy has a GMC and even the radio stations that are programmed in is unique and controlled by the drivers memory setting. When his wife gets in, her radio stations order is set on the radio...thought that was cool.
Which reminds me...why in the hell would they not put a default backlight on that button..trying to fumble in the dark for that seat setting drives me crazy.

While I agree with everything you said about saving the drive mode. It is worth noting that at least you can change the drive mode while driving. It would be really annoying having to be in park or neutral with a speed of zero to change the driving mode.

They really should. Also, have the option to keep that stupid auto start stop off too. I don't want my engine turning off every time I stop. Very annoyed by this, it should have been a programmable option in the menus and not a button.
