• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Pictorial where did you go in your Stinger today

Excellent weather in the Uinta Mountains today (weather roulette; we had torrential rain and mixed hail yesterday and it snowed up there). We parked at the Ruth Lake trailhead and hiked to Ruth lake, over to Hayden Lake (the one at the base of Mount Marsell), then past an unmarked lake called Liberty, which unaccountably had a sign marking it and the year of our shared birth (what are the chances?); and went around Jewel Lake and then hiked back out past several other lakes; you can see them all more or less in the center of the Google Maps view, to the right of Ruth Lake:

I have one question, about pic four in the first row: what the hell is going on with this rock sitting on top of half a dozen or so smaller rocks? This is not natural, so who and when did this? There's absolutely no access to this spot; the nearest road of any kind is a mile and a half away. That massive rock must weigh a couple of tons at the very least; each of the "table leg" rocks would be nigh on a hundred pounds. Fine. There it is for all to marvel at. I wonder how many people actually notice that this is impossible in nature?

Beautiful scenery Merlin. What!! No poo.

Beautiful scenery Merlin.
I know it! I'm still a bit stunned hours later. It feels surreal up there it's so primitive and clean and the air is indescribable.

Beautiful ! can you swim in the lake ?
Look at the snow! Even if it were allowed I can't imagine anyone doing it other than on a dare. This is no watershed. I haven't seen any "No Swimming" signs posted; it's not as if this water is "harvested" as drinking water (like the water up in our canyons to the east of SLC is). I believe that swimming during high summer does occur in Mirror Lake (the largest lake in the region, and a true resort, with its own zip code, even). But dang! It's COLD.

Took a run up to the Blue Mountains Botanical Gardens, on the way stopped & had a photo opportunity in front of an old disused Ampol Station complete with 2 Bowsers, funny the old Post Office next door is still in operation.
Also stopped into the Bilpin & Hillbilly Cider Cellars on the way home & picked up some local Pear & Apple Cider.

Love the photo next to the old service station. Didn't look like there was anyone else around. Looks like a great area to visit. Fantastic views.

Photo’s without people in them is deliberate, although being a Saturday morning it was relatively quiet but quiet busy when we left by midday.
It is a great area to visit & good driving roads as well.

Except, you can't smudge out the license plate: that looks really bad.

Took delivery of the car on Thursday and was originally going to book it in for the Varex exhaust fitting on Saturday morning, but then we realised it was our last free weekend for a while and it made more sense to have the car in the shop while we were at work and make the use of the car now. So we drove out to Orange on Friday evening, visited some friends and came back Saturday evening.

Even in peak hour traffic from the passenger seat, the Stinger is a nice place to be...

After staying the night in Orange, my wife wanted to join in Orange Parkrun just on the eastern outskirts of town...

Ground clearance just enough for this mild off-roading:

Then we met up with a friend's daughter for breakfast back in town, then out to Wellington to have lunch with our ex-pastor's wife as they are filling an interim role out there at the moment. I didn't note what sort of truck this was:

My wife's grandmother grew up in this region and the old homestead they lived in early last century can be seen in the distance. As you can see it's terribly dry out in these parts.

Back home via Mudgee, obligatory cellar door stop and a final pitstop before rejoining the rat race. Left the towbar on for the trip but took the roof racks off (or rather my son did - discovered red marker on the roof for placement - hopefully will wash off. :cautious:

Now you're getting into it. We're used to "dry" up here too.

I hope you have PPF on that fender!

The drought is hitting hard now, the news this morning has places like Dubbo & surrounding areas literally running out of water (rivers & dams) by November this year.
