Paint chips vs Build date

If you have paint chip issues only tick the box with your build date, dont worry about colour

Silky silver 11/17 with no real issues. Would you like to know numbers for folks from the Oct-Dec period with zero issues?

Also one thing take into consideration, since I've seen it mentioned on videos and posts here. The paint chip on the edge of the hood near the drivers side wiper arm (on LHD vehicles), does not count, no matter your color, as that is just caused due to improper servicing.

I'm curious as to how you figure that was improper servicing? Did you have the chips there? I had two chips that i thought were cause by improper servicing, then i tried to replicate what would have caused it. The wiper arm came no where near the chips, hood open or closed.

No, I do not have a paint chip issue there because I have made sure to put the wipers on service mode every time I am going to clean the area or check the wipers.

The wiper arm does touch at the edge of the hood if you try to lift it without setting them in the service position.

i'm not doubting that it will touch the inside of the hood, but the chips i have on the drivers and passenger side do not line up where the contact would happen.

In that case, your paint chips may have been caused by something else.

My comment was referring to the paint chip, that many have wrongly reported as paint issue, at the edge of the hood by the wiper arms.

Yeah my hood edge chip was about an inch? to the side of where the wiper would make contact. Guessing it was from transport or something and there was a black mark about an inch long where it chipped. Wouldn’t come off with soap either.

I have the exact same problem in the back of my hood at the exact same spot. 3,000 miles and I have never touched the wipers. As has been stated even if you pull the wiper arm up toward the hood on purpose it is nowhere near the bad paint spot.

I’m beginning to wonder if Kia has an issue with the base coat or primer for the early production models. It looks like the paint chipping issue is affecting early production cars.

Can you tell the build date from the VIN?

I don't have access to the car at the moment but the car is build #15660. I would think that is very early in production.

Hey guys,
I don’t want to detract from the other thread on paint chips with more people making comments here. I wanted this thread to get data on build dates. Please keep comments for the paint chip thread unless you wish to state your colour and build date as a post.
Thanks

You should have done a yes/no for each month and then calculated the percentages of occurrence. Your poll as it is provides no useful data as there isnt an even distribution of owners from each month.
I’m trying to get a pattern to show up I can’t design a easy poll if you throw in too many variables. As you would see there is a pattern emerging now. If you can do better then go ahead and make a poll to your specs.

Interesting trend indeed :(

As you can all see the trend is the November December 2017 build dates that we most affected. Not sure if the March vote was definitely body chips and not bumper headlight issues as I’m only looking for body chip votes. I’m sure as people vote the trend will become clearer.
This may give affected people some sort of evidence that Kia had a bad batch of paint that was applied to those vehicles in those two months. The upside is if your car build was outside those times you most likely won’t get paint chips. My car is a SWP February 2018 build and I have no chips.
Hope the poll has helped guys.
