Newbie and possible Stinger owner

Check autotrader canada. There's one listed for $28,980, with twice the mileage.
I can't post the link as I am too new.

This is Canada don't forget.
I will let you know what the dealer says, and yes, I've been around long enough to know they will lowball me.
I would be disappointed if they didn't...lol

You have to ensure you can afford them without having to rely on a trade in without a "must get this for my trade or I can't afford it". I think when you think like that.........you can't afford it.

I think you will be so pissed with the trade in price and won't or haven't got the other $60K to get into a new Stinger. Sorry to be realistic.
You're making a few assumptions that are incorrect.
I know 100% I'll be pissed off at the trade offer. That's a given. Been there many times.
As for me on a personal level, I'm a retired senior, with plenty of cash in the bank. I am quite capable of buying a $60k car, for cash, thank you very much.
I could just as easily buy the Stinger (cash) and keep the Mazda as my DD. No problem there.
As for dealers, I've bought and driven a lot of cars over the years, so I know how these guys operate.

Just for the fun of it, I went to my local Mazda dealer yesterday. They advertise that they'll buy your car for cash, even if you don't buy a new one from them. What a joke.
They wouldn't give me a number on my car unless I left the car there with them (and what? walk home).
Their tactic is to hold your car hostage until you come to terms with them, even though you haven't made any commitments, or gotten an offer from them. That's borderline car theft. Then the guy I was dealing with said he needed to talk to his manager. Gee, never heard THAT one before...lol. Anyway, he comes back after a few minutes and says his manager is not in today. WTF? You mean to tell me you've been at work all day, and you didn't know your manager was not in? Unreal.
I said goodbye after that.

I'll be going to the Kia dealer tomorrow. I have an appointmernt set up. Should be fun.

if you can buy the Stinger cash, then do that (thats what i did). then sell your other car private party at your leisure.

sold my 4 year old car for a couple grand less than i paid for it.

Well, it's been an interesting 24 hours.
The Mazda dealer offered me $16,000 cash for the 6. I walked away.

I just spent the last two hours at the Kia dealership. Long story short, I put a deposit down on a new Stinger.
It should be here in a few weeks. They are not easy to come by anymore. Supply is short.
They didn't budge off the MSRP price, which is exactly what I expected, so no problem with that.
They also didn't inflate the price, like some folks on here thought they would.
There are the usual PDI fees and crap, but no hidden surprises. The only extra I asked for was window tint, which they will do for $350.
Then I got sent to the finance guy, again, no surprise, and he did his best to sell me all the extra garbage, like extended warranty, rustproofing, blah blah blah.
He went through his list of things that could go wrong after the factory warranty runs out, to justify the ridiculous extended warranty.
I said to him, if all these things you are listing are going to fail on this car, maybe I shouldn't buy it. Haha. He had no response.

I also traded in the Mazda. I didn't mention a trade in until I had a firm price on the Stinger. With a bit of haggling back and forth, I got close to $21,000 for the Mazda 6. Used prices will drop in the near future, and I really didn't want to go through the pain of selling privately. Also, let's be honest, Mazda isn't the first make that comes to mind when buying a used car. Trading a car in always results in a few dollars left on the table, but in this case, I'm quite satisfied that the dollars lost make up for the inconvenience and hassle of trying to sell it on line.

The car is supposed to arrive around July 6-7.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
And to think someone told you that you would only get $10,000 for it.
I know eh. I didn't want to be rude, but I knew that estimate was way off the mark.
I refused the $16k Mazda dealer offer via phone, btw.
They just called back and asked me to come in so that we could negotiate face to face.
That tells me even the Mazda dealer is willing to go higher, even though I was very specific about not buying another Mazda.
Too little too late I'm afraid. I might have gotten them to $18K, but that's still not as good as the Stinger deal.
Did I leave a few grand on the table not selling privately. Probably. I'm ok with it though.
What they didn't know when they checked it out (both dealers) is that the drivers seat heating element doesn't work (Mazda wants over $1,000 to fix it).
The rear brakes need doing as well, but neither one mentioned anything. That's another $500-$600 I don't have to spend.
I think I did alright.

I have been around the trade a long time

Firstly you said it was worth $28990 because you found the most expensive car on a Canadian website and yours was one of a kind. I guess it was with the things wrong with it and it only had 24,000 miles.........

That's why dealers offer a low trade in because they know you haven't told them the truth about that car as you say heater doesn't work, brakes bad. What else? Tyres, pads? etc etc. I mentioned all these things to you. Still worth the best price for the best car in Canada? $28,990?

I know the value of this model even in Australia and converting it to Canadian dollars. There is no way you got $21K

I bet you got $11k but you could not pass up the Stinger.

You were pretty good BS-ing the dealer but that;s OK because you screwed him

Bu you are the honest truth here...........

That's an accusation I do not take kindly too. Please retract your comment.
If you like, I can post the text message I got from the Mazda dealer, for starters, and if that's not enough, I can post the quote from the Kia dealer.
If that doesn't convince you, then it's your problem.

You probably should have kept that Mazda, considering If it ever needs to go the shop, the service totally blows. If I could do it over again, I definitely would have also kept my 2019 Acadia or just bought the A7 that was going to be 20k more. I've had more problems with this car than any other new one. I do forget them when I see the car or when I decide to really punch it.

Ya, I've been thinking about that actually.
The new car doesn't arrive for a few weeks yet, and I'm still really enjoying driving the Mazda.
I had two strangers walk up to the car yesterday and started admiring it. Asked me all kinds of questions about it.
I'm seriously thinking about going back to the Kia dealer and just buying the Stinger outright, and taking the Mazda off the deal.
As I've alluded to before, money is not an issue at this point in my life (I worked hard to get to this point, so why not use it eh?.)

Update:
When I mentioned trading in the Mazda 6 to the kids and grandkids, they all said I was crazy. They want me to keep the Mazda in the family, especially my two older grandkids (in university). They hope one day it will be theirs.
Long story short, I went back to the dealership and met up with the sales manager.
I took the Mazda off the deal. I'm keeping it. He was not surprised to be honest. No push back at all.
I still have a deposit on file, and a reworded document of intent to buy the next Stinger that comes in. Could be weeks, or even months.
There is only one new Stinger currently for sale in Ottawa, at a different dealer. Allocations are few and far between it seems.
My only stipulation (which I put in writing), is that I don't want a black car. I'll take any colour except black.
We shall see what happens. In the meantime, I still enjoy driving the Mazda.

Thunder Grey is super close to black... so you probably won't want that either. (assuming they still offer it) I was of the same mindset, any colour but black, and honestly white and silver was at the bottom of the acceptable list... nothing wrong with either (other than black shows ever bit of dust and scratch) they are just too common for me... every car in parking lots, is either black, white or silver. Just wanted different

Interesting. To each their own but my 1st choice was black...only red fell into my lap. My only "take anything but..." color was Ceramic Grey.

To each their own though; I hope you get a Stinger in the color you want, whatever it may be :)

Update:
Went to a different KIA dealer a few weeks ago just to see if I could get a better deal.
I managed to get a bit off the price, plus free window tint. The other dealer wouldn't give me a thing.
I figured it was the best price I was going to get, given the lack of inventory and scarceness of the car, so I put down a deposit on the next one that was coming in (as long as it wasn't black....lol).
Got a call this evening that the car arrived today. They said earlier it was going to be a white one, and that's what it is.
It will be ready for pickup on Friday afternoon. I'm pretty excited.

As for my 2017 Mazda 6 GT, I'm keeping it for now. The best trade in value I could get from either dealer was $19,000.
The local Mazda dealer wanted to buy it from me for $16,000. Not a chance.
They actually have a 2016 Mazda 6 on their lot, with twice the miles, and two model levels lower than my GT, and they are asking $19,000.
No wonder they call them stealerships.
I might try to sell it privately later this summer, or maybe consign it, or maybe not. No decisions yet. I'm doing the research now.
The only thing I don't like about a private sale is that you never know who or what will show up at the door and possibly try to drive off with it. I'm seriously concerned about security and possible theft or a con job (Forged cheque, etc). Nothing is safe anymore.

I'll update again after I take delivery.

you can't blame them for trying to maximize profit. if they see your going to trade in on the stinger that is the way to dicker for the highest value you'll get. that or a private buyer who knows how much it'll cost to get the car at a dealership / car sales place, and you can give them a deal avoiding fees and the like. I think that private buyers are as rare as unicorns right now, only dealerships showed any interest in my 2.0l premium when I posted it for sale recently.

Well, the day finally arrived. Picked up my new Stinger earlier today.
I was nervous and excited at the same time.
It's white with black interior. I would have preferred the red accent interior, but Stingers are so few and far between here, that this was the only one available for the next few months. No regrets.
This Stinger is only the second one this dealership has sold this year. They are getting rare.
That's one of the things I like about it. You don't see them on every street corner or parking lot.
I haven't taken it far yet. From the dealer to my garage, about ten miles. Safely tucked away.

I'll be spending the weekend reading the users manual. I sat in the car for a while with the sales rep and went over the basics, but there is a lot to learn with this car. So much technology.

I drove it gingerly on the way home, and didn't really test it, but you can tell this thing has some real get up and go.
Once I put a few hundred miles (Kms) on it, I'll push it a bit harder.
The only thing I didn't feel comfortable with, is the side bolsters on the seat back. They pinch a bit against my ribs.
I'm not a big guy, and I know they are adjustable, but I'm hoping they'll soften up a bit with time.

Now all I have to do is figure out what to do with the Mazda.
Maybe keep it as my winter car this year, and save the Stinger from all the ice, snow and road salt.

Looking forward to being an active member on this site. I've learned a lot already.
Thanks to everyone who reads this.
Cheers from Ottawa

Set the bolsters for comfort in comfort mode, when you go to sport they will tighten up and you can set them again for sport mode.
If you have them set tight in comfort they will crush your ribs when they move in...lol

PS: Congrats...you will love the stinger, I still do after almost 4 years and 120k kms.

Ya, I'm going through the manual now and reading about all the settings (not just the seats). Goodness, there's a lot to learn.
I only played with the seat adjustment as I was driving home from the dealer.
This weekend is my weekend for playing with and getting to know the car.
I'll sit in the driveway for a bit and set things up to suit my needs.
I stopped at a Tim Hortons on the way home yesterday, and as I was backing out of the parking spot, the 360 degree surround view came on. Wow. I was not expecting that. Cool.
I'm sure there will be more pleasant surprises. Looking forward to it.
One thing I'll be doing as soon as possible is wrapping the front end in XPEL clear bra. I have it on the Mazda, and it works well.
I also want to find some sort of body side moulding strip, to hopefully reduce the chances of door dings in parking lots. I'm looking on line for that now.
Cheers.

Just noticing your location. Nice part of the country.
My son went to school at St. FX, and my sister lived in Truro for many years.
You must be one of the few, or even the only, guy in the area with a Stinger. Exclusive club member...lol
