New Wheels on my Kia Stinger GT

So you went from a 26” diameter 19” tire to a 27” diameter 20”.

why didn’t you choose a smaller sidewall?

looks like you could go off-roading.

Seems a bit too high. These cars look great with aftermarket rims but idk how you guys can deal with a smaller sidewall then we already have. 35 series is already pretty tiny imo. We have potholes everywhere here in MN. I've damaged rims and suspension on cars that had stock wheels with 55 & 60 sidewalls, so the stock being 35 is definitely all I can handle.
 
The rims do look a tad too large. Having them powder coated to match the body color (the dark grey) would perhaps help them 'blend' a bit better. The side profile pic confirms this, with more diffused light they look more gray in color and IMO look better.

That aside, putting even thinner rubber bands on the car can't help the ride quality around town (maybe a bit better on the track? is this car tracked?). There's already plenty of NVH over certain road types in the sparsely factory sound deadened Stinger.

A lot of drivers on here have moved to 20" wheels. Why are Ed's suddenly looking "a tad too large"?

If anything the entire setup is too large, not the wheels though. Ed's got a c. 4% difference in OD by using that tire. I think the wisdom says don't exceed one to two percent variation in OE OD?

His new tire size is 255/35/20. That's also a 3.5" sidewall.

He didn't decrease the size of the sidewall. He increased the tire's overall diameter by an inch.

Remember, the "35" or "40" represents a percentage of the tire's width not the actual size of the sidewall. His sidewalls are 35% of 255mm instead of 40% of 225mm.

I wish we could get a 40 series tire all around on our cars with 19s, would make me feel a hell of a lot more comfortable.

Ah, I assumed they were skinnier (optical illusion clearly). This means he's running several percent off spedo then as the madman explained.

You can. Either use 225/40/19 or 255/35/19.

The overall diameter and sidewall will be identical. :oops:

Probably because he stuck with the same size sidewalls, so they're oversized for the vehicle. My eyes seem to latch onto the tires awkwardly filling the wheel well.

Typically when someone increases the wheel size they decrease the sidewall size to keep the overall diameter closer to stock size. That would mitigate the speedometer inaccuracy. In his case, he kept the sidewall the same size while also increasing the wheel size so it makes for a much taller tire. His car is sitting quite a bit higher than stock. It probably feels like a small SUV and at hwy speeds he definitely will be driving at different speeds than what's shown in the car.

The "40" only represents the percentage of the tire's width. Technically ANY size will fit any wheel because it's only the height. It's the width you need to worry about fitting or not fitting a certain size wheel.

Again, there is practically no difference in size between a 225/40/19 and 255/35/19. Don't get hung up on the number "40." It doesn't mean what you think it does.

Check this out:

Two different size tires. One 35 one 40 aspect ratio. Same size sidewall. Nearly same size height.

Even though the 255/35/19 doesn't have that magical "40" number it still provides the exact same amount of sidewall.
