New Install - Having Issues

Make sure you use fuel with as little or no ethonal as this can help woth missfire issues. 92 or 93 octane if thats in your area and .024 to .028 is what ive seen working for everyone. It you have meth injection thats out of my league.
My oem pligs missed and my hks plugs work great. Thats all the helpfullness ive got :)

So out of frustration I just set it back to map 2 and drove the car around like I stole it for 30 minutes and the car handled it fine...is it possible there was an issue with the jb4 itself? Intermittent issues always cause the most headaches...

it still idles rougher in park than it does in D with foot on the brake. No clue if that is normal or not..

Should smooth out in park but it could be feeding to much fuel for idle air levels ( just a shot in the dark)

Just my input.......feel your "pain" as I too had issues and ultimately, it cost an engine!!! Luckily, under warranty otherwise, easily out of my pocket.....

Set the JB4 back to MAP 0, verify gap on plugs (won't be bad since you have the 2.0), and run a couple of tanks of fresh gas, 93 octane if possible or at least, highest level and leave STOCK until the tanks of gas have been used. Plugs should be fine to leave in if gap is good but there will be a little "putt" in the mornings at start up until the engine is good and warm(colder plugs will do this).

With your current other mods, make sure things are running smooth with those while leaving the jb4 on map0. If you get through the couple tanks of good gas with no issues, bump to map 1, do a run or two and send in for evaluation before going any further......

HTH....

Thanks a lot I appreciate it. Will report back after several tanks on map0. I have a 250 mile trip planned for this weekend but the car stalling out this morning is a bit concerning. Is it safe to say it was just the plugs being too cold to properly ignite? Also, should I take it easy on the throttle when I’m running through the tanks on map0?

How about get a new set of ignition coil packs? I’d go .022-.024 gap on stock spark plug heat range.

Car ran fine on my 30 mile highway commute to work this morning. I’d rather not throw money at it just yet, but I will consider the coils if issues persist with the jb4 disabled.

And just to clarify, my plugs are currently gapped at .022.

Fingers crossed she levels out for you
Same thoughts here. After a couple tanks of "good as you can get" gas, may want to put in a brand new set of plugs with proper gap before doing anything else. These will be less expensive than coils but if the plugs don't do it, then maybe new coils are in order.....just don't see how coils have crapped out on you this soon even w/jb4????

After engine replacement, my Stinger still had original coils and they did fine on the new engine.

I think it’s really just a user error with my system. Will report back.

I would do all the steps slowly and monitor changes to avoid buying expensive parts you may not need yet. Maybe do a once over of the wire connectors but i have personaly never done a jb4 anything.

Just a quick question on heat range as I believe I am running at stock heat levels right now. These are the plugs I am currently running gapped to 0.022"

The HKS plugs I had installed originally seem to be 2 steps colder than what I am running now (referencing the heat range conversion chart on HKS website)...just thinking out loud as I'm taking it upon myself to troubleshoot the issue now...Purchased the gapper tool and will be pulling the plugs to verify. From there, I may buy another set of the HKS M45XL plugs...

Also came across this thread: Hks M45xl are "too cold" for my application I know this is on an Optima, but it's the same engine as my Stinger.

Maybe the HKS M40XL are another option??

2 steps colder. It’s fine if you’re running higher boost.

You can run stock heat range plugs or 1 step colder if you’re mixing E85. E burns cooler.

Have you gone back to completely stock and driven it to eliminate any "car" issues. Obviously its a pain in the ass but starting from zero sometimes is the way to go. I mean you keep questioning the plugs and the jb4. Could be the install?...i dont run one but just from your thread and all the info here, id start from scratch personally.

Not ruling out the install. I have the JB4 disabled as of now until I verify proper plug gap/installation.

I will only ever go up to map2 with 93 octane if that matters.

I would definitely invest the money on a torque wrench for the plugs. It's not like you need to go buy a snap on to do it. Completely eliminates that potential problem from the equation

Agreed. I have a torque wrench I use for my atv tires which goes up to 80 ft lb I believe. Should I shoot for like 15 ft/lb on the plugs? If I had it all over again I would have done all of this myself...
