According to the manual,

1659904895059.webp

I should be able to hit the voice button then say "Find <POI NAME> in <CITY>". The expected result is it will show me all of the named poi's in that city. Instead, it either shows me all of the poi's where i'm at, or doesn't understand the command at all.

Example

"Find mobil in janesville", "Find mobil in janesville wisconsin", "Find exxon in janesville", "Find exxon in janesville wisconsin" All leads to failure or mobil stations around me.

Otoh, if i type into the manual search "mobil janesville" then it shows me the all the mobils in janesville.

Perhaps Im just being retarded here and don't understand how to interact with this stupid system.

Question, what is the proper format for finding a named poi in a particular city?

Found this in the manual on the following page;

1659905898630.webp

Can someone translate the first part into layman's english?

"To search for locations in another state or province, say the state or province name first then say the location you want"

WHAT!?@#

I'm guessing if you're in Chicago, IL, I'm guessing you'd say "Janesville Wisconsin, Exxon" Or maybe "Janesville Wisconsin, Find Exxon". Seems like it works....funny...when searching by POI for locations in a different state, unlike by address.

Edit:
Personally, I don't use the built in nav. I use Waze. I just prefer it.

Walk me through like a 5 yr old.

Press the voice button then say what ?

I tried the above and other variations. Got nowhere.

You replied before I edited LOL!. Sorry I don't use the built in nav so I have no clue. Would have to do trial and error, unless someone knows for sure.

Ha! I don't use waze/google maps unless on a long road trip. The in built nav obviously has this poi given it can find it when using the manual search. Only problem is manual search doesn't work on the latest (5/2022) update when car is in motion.

This voice search seems like it's a decade old. Given the huge size of the 5/2022 update one would think they've improved on it.

The instruction seems clear enough: try "Wisconsin, Waukesha, Exxon." I've never used voice command except to call someone hands free.

Wait... what about the Find command?

Do you have to say "find" first? (Oh, yeah, it does say that.) OK, then say "Find" in front of what I suggested. Let us know, I'm curious.

f*ck it.. This is my last trip out to the garage for today... Merlin I will try your suggestion.

LOL

Same none sense. It's not understanding me.

Who ever wrote the instructions clearly did not test them.

I need some feedback from someone with a gen5w who's figured out the right commands and sequence.

Have you tried shouting at it/her? Center yourself precisely over your seat, face precisely straight ahead and shout as if to a mostly-deaf imbecile (slowly). Oh, and keep your music off and close all the windows and sunroof (eliminate wind noise).

I've reached out to my sales person. We'll see what he comes back with.

According to this post on the genesis site, the system is sh!t and doesn't work in the manner expected above.

I really don't understand why. It can verbally be told to search for an address in a different city/state, why not a POI? I would think it takes more intelligence to process a numeric street address/street name/city/state sequence than a business name/city/state.

Actually, I can tell you why. They want to sell you the uvo connect plan which offers this functionality. And the only plan that offers this is the highest priced one, $200/yr. No thanks.

I guess I'll just have to pull over to enter it next time as it now locks out entry while moving.

Yeah, it's quite stupid: they say that you have to be in "P" to enter an address, but they say you can use voice command while moving. Really ...?

I tried reaching out to uvo connect support. Before getting hung up on, the guy said it's mostly working the way it should.

I understand the concept of setting a destination before you go, but what if you're already moving. Seems retarded to have to stop to re-enter a new destination.

Voice searching requires UVO anyway. If you don't plan on using it then just type stuff in.

On mine I typically don't say "find" as I usually have problems. I'll just say Costco in Everett or something like that.

I like the added bonus of the lo-jack-like service
And depending on your insurance, you may get a discount for "Stolen vehicle recovery service".

This is one of the reasons I may keep Kia Connect/UVO. That and because I can ask my home automation system to start climate control and currently have it set to lock my doors at night if I forgot them unlocked. For some reason I never get the alerts from Kia Connect that my car doors are unlocked regardless of how long they're unlocked...which I thought it was supposed to do.

Mine harrasess me if I walk away from the car for 5 minutes and the doors are unlocked.
