Drag/Acceleration Mods to improve ¼ mile times and unofficial track thread

Tork is on role. Droppped his quarter by .2 this week. May not have to snip but will if i need to. 11.4s?

I am aware of at least on ECU tuner claiming to have mapped the entire OEM ECU and has, amongst other things:

a dedicated launch mode using torque management too

He's tuned two cars for me before the Stinger (and done wonders), has done tunes for "factory supported" vehicles in numerous motorsport categories internationally, tuning for road cars on behalf of manufacturers, I've got no reason to disbelieve his claims. I will absolutely be having his tune put on my car as soon as it arrives.

Interesting, ask him if he has mapped out the TCU as well.

Just bought the car a month ago :)

Good work if you can get it (changing cars every 1-2 years). My '05 Legacy GT died after 14.5 years.. I can afford the Stinger and to build it up, but I can't afford to lose $10k on a car every few years..

I had the Stinger for 1 year and 4 months. I got the car on March 2, 2018. That is why you need to sell the car before it losses value and know how to sell a car. I wont be losing 10k on my car, otherwise I would keep it if that was the case. I am actually selling my car stock and the parts on the side. I will break even on my car at the worst case scenario, but if this guy pulls thru I will make money on my sale. That is the main reason I am selling because I will make money and I am in the process of buying a 2010 Nissan GTR locally from a friend of a friend and the deal I am getting is amazing.

Now is the time to sell the Stinger before the GTS comes out. Next year the average Stinger GT will lose 10k value easy, I don't want to be a part of that group. I mean if you plan on keeping the car forever then you don't have to worry about any of this.

I constantly always looking on craigslist and locally for cars to buy at a good deal. I also go to the auction all the time with my friend that got a used dealer license. Last year I made 11k flipping cars. This is a hobby of mine and a side hustle.

I sold 4 cars last year 2018.
1. 2002 Lexus Is 300- 5 speed Manual - Bought for 3k sold for 4.5k
2. 2016 Honda Accord Sport 6 speed Manual- Bought for 12k sold for 16k
3. Ford Mustang GT 2016 Manual - Bought for 15k sold for 19k
4. Toyota Corolla 2015 Auto - Bought for 8k sold for 10k

I am sure Tork is on a role.....but I highly doubt that John will give Terry any credit lol....Come on man!

Even if John did the BMS switch I would be surprised if he was open about it and told everyone. The crazy part is that it seems like those trying to get the top spot have no choice at this point. I honestly don't think John will figure out the TCU or launch control anytime soon.

Only time will tell.....

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
If the BMS brake switch mod motivated John to find brake torque tables then good for him and all of us because competition is breeding innovation.

Should be possible. With the right weather I think 11.3s are possible on the JB4 end with bolt on mods. Right now even the current record of 11.59 was set using heavy stock rims and ~2500' DA. Imagine -1000' DA and RPF1s all around!

Wish I had friends like that.. At this point, after lease cash, I MIGHT be able to sell the car for a bit of a loss / bit of a gain, but I don't know what I'd buy that I'd actually want instead. The GTS has D-AWD, but loses on features I like (cooled seats, crash avoidance, etc). It took me 3+ years to finally settle on a Stinger, and so far, for a similar price ($40K + tax), I don't know what I'd want. I don't have time to do side hustles, I'm working too much as it is.

$15K for a '16 GT? Weren't they like $35-40K new? High mileage? Abused?

The Stinger is awesome but in terms of resale value, pretty atrocious. Negotiate hard when buying it because you're going to lose down the road on the sale IMHO.

Yeah, I hear you. If I could have gotten conquest, it would have been MUCH better, but still, around ~$38K + fees + tax for my GT1 AWD seems reasonable (lease cash + buyout). Still planning to do the buyout. Or could just return the car in 2 years - haven't bought it yet.

Yes 15k cash money. At an auction it was a base GT. Car was taken away by the bank and ended up at an auction. When it came out yes car was like 30k or so depending on the extra options. Mileage was 100k and it was 8/10 exterior and interior. Had some minor exterior defects but I fixed it all up with the paint pen and a polish and wax. I could sold car for more but I usually look to sell the car in 2 weeks or less since the summer time here is short in Chicago. I give a great price to sell fast. Since I have my friend that runs a used car dealer I am able to get really good deals at the auctions. I really don’t have the time since I am always working and school but I know a lot of people + I make the time lol to make extra money. It is well worth it if you have the knowledge and connections.

Yes you are 100% correct! I can almost guarantee you when I buy another 2018 Stinger GT base next year I will be able to scoop one up for around 20-25k easy. My next Stinger I am going to fully built lol so Terry I will be buying a lot of parts from you. Let’s just say I am tanking a break from the Stinger for a year.

It will be a dull year without your flare around here. Let us know when you track your GT"R". Cheers:)

Thanks you for your kind words!

No worries I will be back when everyone least expects it......to break everyone records lol

I honestly didn't think I was going to fall in love with the Stinger but I did. I will be buying another Stinger for cheap just to mod the shit out of it and make crazy DIY videos. I will admit that I will miss the love/hate relationship I have with the Stinger community. One thing I know for sure is that it is in my bucket list to get a Stinger GT to the 10's.

I had a goal when I first bought the car and that was to get the car to hit 11's. This was before the JB4 and all the mods that are out for the Stinger. I was the first to hit 11.9 on the JB4 with only intakes and downpipes on a full weight Stinger. This was March of 2019 before the BMS brake snip. Now after the brake Snip on pump gas an NO WMI I was able to hit 11.7. I feel like I could hit 11.5 with WMI if I get a great launch and traction. I seen how this platform has progressed from nothing to something in the past year. I have never experienced that with any car I have owned and modified a lot of cars so it is definitely a special relationship. Is like watching your first kid grow up and exceed all of your expectations. With my Lexus IS 300 with the built 2JZ swap (700WHP) it is pretty common and the aftermarket support is insane. My car hits 10's but is nothing new it has been done before and is very common. Same thing with my Lexus ISF that is now supercharged, it was done before so I already knew the expectations for these cars and the potential. Same thing with the GTR I already know the potential of the car and know what to expect. I had no idea of the potential of the Stinger and it exceeded all my expectations for being a Kia and the performance potential of the Stinger considering the price of it.

I will be back for the competition. I will be back for all those that have supported me along the way. Last but not least I will be back for all those that doubted me and hated on me.

I got a cousin that will be buying a Stinger GT and I will be modifying the car for him. I will still be making DIY videos for the Stinger.

I'm going to go on a bit of a rant here because I hear this all the time so please forgive me, "it's a Kia, you're going to get massive depreciation!" I've been checking out other similar cars and their depreciation looks to be just as bad as the Stinger or far worse from a dollar perspective. Take the Infiniti RS400, MSRP is around $55k for RWD, those suckers are going for mid to low 30s with under 15k miles and a 2018 model. Audi S5, MSRP is around $60-65k, they're going for mid to low 40s with under 15k miles and a 2018. Let's try an SUV, BMW X5 xDrive50I, MSRP $80-85K, they're going for mid 50s under 15k miles and a 2018, that's roughly THIRTY THOUSAND dollars in ONE year.

Depreciation on any new vehicle is garbage unless you have some kind of rare and highly sought after model. I paid 37k for my new GT1 last year, 10k miles on it now, looks like my car at the lowest prices on autotrader is going for mid 30s still, pretty damn good in the depreciation department I would say. As long as you get a decent deal when buying new, which everyone should be at this point, you shouldn't take much of a loss in the first year or two.

Depends on the deal you got. I leased mine (with intentions to buy) and was looking at trading out for a 2020 Explorer ST when they drop, and I had 2k positive equity. Then again, I have a very low mileage GT2. It all depends on your trim level, demand, and market. The lower trims don't hold value quite as much in NADA/Black Book values. Its also hard to gauge a good value on our cars because there isn't many running through the auction block to get a good real world figure of what they would bring, so notoriously dealers don't like taking a risk.

Expect that tranny to drop 2nd and 4th. LOL ;)

I was tempted with going a GTR route as well, but I know it would be more of a money pit than I want with the access I have here. We have a lot of GTR's where i'm from, all from 700-2000hp. I would be too tempted to try and keep up. Love the cars, just not some of the issues they face once you hit higher power levels.

LOL......

The one I am getting has low miles and no mods and was babied by the owner. I won't be going crazy on the car since it already runs low 11's stock. All I will do is wheels, intake, exhaust and a tune. I don't have plans to go crazy thou as the GTR has been my dream car. I got my Lexus IS 300 turbo to go really fast.

I am also aware that I said the same thing with the Stinger and ended up with WMI somehow.....

Lol, I dare you to stick to those mods only. At the least FBO.
