3.3TT Mishimoto's Stinger GT Intercooler Kit R&D Thread

View attachment 52494there is an improvement in airflow, the boost builds much faster. However the engine does get pretty hot and that effects everything under the hood. After about 2 pulls the iat was about 170 degrees... Hello pulled timing. Just another reason to install that meth kit I have sitting around.
Replying pretty late to this comment, but did you actually see pulled timing due to knock or are you referring to the general reduced timing that happens with higher IATs?

So, we did know that there was a difference from photos and part numbers, it's just pretty difficult to get a hold of a non USDM crash beam here in the states to get a good look at. We have some contacts in AU that were kind enough to send us some details recently on what all needs to be trimmed and how, just to make sure we weren't instructing you to chop off anything critical.

Also, I was able to do another weigh-in on our intercooler and confirming that the 31lbs. spec is correct. It's hard to pinpoint the reason for the discrepancy, and again, I apologize that it happened, but thanks for bringing it to our attention so that we can get it updated ASAP.

Also, just as a heads up for those of you in Australia, our blow-off valve adaptor is now in stock and ready to ship in that region!

Thanks,
Nick
I thought the OE BOV was a straight bolt up?

No word just yet on the radiator/other cooling upgrades just yet, but I've made it known that you guys are looking for those!

Has anyone had any documented overheating at all?

Nothing in the works at the moment for the 2.0T's unfortunately

-Nick
Yes. Mine has overheated a few times.

Hey Nick @Mishimoto. Looking for some support with the catch can kit. I’m looking for replacement 16Mx1.5mm hose barbs that come with the kit.

I found the replacements on the site, but they come as 2 packs of either 1/2” or 3/8” barbs and the stinger requires one of each.

Any chance I could purchase one of each?

(Just sone added relevance to the thread)

Just finished my install about a week ago, everything went smoothly except mounting the brackets to the intercooler. The threads needed to be chased with a tap. They were half tapped and full of paint.

Otherwise the kit is beautiful and well engineered.

Just wrapped the cold pipe. It was soaking up a lot of heat. It’s a pain in the ass to do a nice job.

Looks fantastic!

So fancy.

I’m really surprised at just how unhelpful Mishimoto customer service is. The senior customer experience specialist Damien is stonewalling me pretending he can’t get me some replacement parts.

He’s the sort of guy who can word smith a email politely calling you and idiot, pretends he doesn’t understand what your asking for, only replies to a portion of what you need help with and always closing with “if there’s anything I can help you with we’re always here for you” BS sentiment.

When I posted the above message I assume he saw it and sent me a message as an attempt at damage control.

Figured Nick might be more inclined to help a customer (assuming he still works there).

This man you speak of could be a politician

Exactly.

I tried to get some replacement parts from them a while back and they were less than helpful. Since I wasn't the original owner they would not help me. Email basically said "good luck", then told me if I bought a new one they would help.

I looked up reviews by former employees on Glass Door. Pretty entertaining; explains a lot.

They spend too much time and energy alienating good customers. It was almost like sport for him to deny me any satisfaction.

The favor I was asking for was minuscule and I was offering to pay from the start.

I’ll pay him one compliment though, I bet he’s consistent. He’ll treat you like shit no matter who you are: long time customer, first time customer, friendly or irate, Military or otherwise. All can eat a bag of ….

While I’m bitching, their rewards program sucks too. It’s so restrictive. Any reward balance I’ve earned has expired because there’s always some condition that won’t allow me to apply it at any given time. Plus the way they inflate their retail prices so they can fake a perpetual “sale” price is lame.

Since it's been a while, and i might be forgetting some minor details, but it was a direct swap. Remove stock bar, and install g70 one.
I really wonder how many g70 parts are good for weight savings.... i must research and thank you

Hey Guys!

I'm back already (mostly by popular demand in our catch can thread;)) to kick off our development thread on our performance intercooler kit! We're still a ways off from having the full kit, but this thread will be a repository for all things Mishimoto intercooler, and you have the pleasure (or agony for those who are impatient like me :p) of following along with our intercooler development it real time. That being said, I'll make sure to give you guys a peek behind the curtain here once we have any updates for you!

NLT_0501.jpg

Currently, we're still in the design phase, and just last week, the engineer on this project, Dan, created a full scan of the available space for a hefty new core.

Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for more updates to come!

As always, feel free to shoot me any comments, questions or concerns!

-Nick
I know I'm reviving this super old thread, but I have a Stinger GT-Line with the 2.0L engine and wanted to know which universal intercooler would work for my use case?
