MBRP Exhaust

Well, I bit the bullet and pulled the trigger! My wife is going to kill me when I get called to work in the middle of the night and fire up the Stinger! This is the first such upgrade I’ve ever done to a car in my 28 years of driving! Chalk it up to a midlife crisis? I just hope it’s as described by members here on the forum. I just want more lower octave growl and a bit more dBs when I want it! Cruising at near stock level but a nice snarl when getting on it.... We’ll see... Also ordered some exhaust tips from aliexpress....thank you for your help with this thread and extra guidance from Herbiethecar!

Good Call! You'll love it. Cruising speed it's almost as stock but if you step on it that's were it shine. like you this is the first ever car I put an exhaust on it and some other upgrades

The description for that part number says it's for Hyundai Velosters. Is that just a typo?

I saw that too but the part number listed is correct and matches the listed numbers on the MBRP website

I believe the exhaust tips are 2.5" so it should be 63mm - 89mm exhaust tips right iirc? I decided to jump the gun and purchase and MBRP SS version.

With this, I would have SSR midpipes + MBRP Catback SS and hopefully some exhaust tips... I htink the Akrapovic ones that have been mentioned are the best bang for your buck.. either that or powercoating the OEM ones I guess.

So my review after two days with the MBRP Catback exhaust:

Two words: regret and disappointment.

I was really looking forward to this upgrade. I only wanted to do "tasteful" upgrades where the car wouldn't become a rice cooker. I think it became a rice cooker, nonetheless. I'm a very indecisive and impulsive person so please take this with a huge grain of salt.

I got lucky with my car, no rattles, no issues for 12.5k miles. After installing the MBRP exhaust, the car rattles while at idle, rattles while at WOT, and rattles while accelerating. Between 1250-2100RPM while accelerating, the car goes under extreme vibrations (not sure why but probably partly due to the driving mode and being in too high of a gear.) and the entire car rattles; even with tips installed. This could be an issue with the install so I will be bringing it back to the shop. There is also a drone at about 1750-2100RPM, from what I presume is the spot where the exhaust is half open-half closed theoretically.

WOT sounds good and I took it under a tunnel and it put a smile on my face. It was the only time it did, because other times, it was either rattling, vibrating, or droning. I don't know much about cars and this is the first time I've modded a car, but this is definitely not the result I was hoping for. Could I just put on music and forget about it? Yes, but I just thought I should give you my own perspective and opinion.

The exhaust will stay on until after April 15th. If I still can't find a way to like it, the OEM exhaust is going back on.

My turn off is that it's loud......I heard the stillen and magnaflow are the quietest which what I prefer. Being in Socal with check points pulling cars that "sound" modified I want the performance not the sound.

It sounds like the installation went wrong, and something is touching either the bumper or a bracket/hanger enough to generate vibrations in the cabin. Did you install the tips at the same time as the exhaust? I would look at that as the likely cause (touching the bumper cutout). I don't have any vibrations inside the car with my MBRP, and that isn't normal. If the installer can't track it down, and I were in your shoes, I would totally remove it.

The wait is over. It finally showed up at my doorstep after 3 1/2 months. But I won’t be installing until after I take it the dealership for service.

And I’m gonna agree with the above posts about rattling/vibrations. Totally sounds like it wasn’t installed right. I’ve had multiple exhausts installed on multiple cars in the past, and usually when it’s rattling like that it means something didn’t get tightened or fit correctly. Of all the people with this exhaust, I’ve heard of no such issue among the majority.

Yeah that is totally not normal. Once they have it up on the lift they'll be able to pinpoint what is touching and causing the vibration.
