Lots of questions from a 100% beginner

Well that was fun. Made my Saturday morning coffee time a bit more interesting. Thank you OP for the thread and @Kamauxx and @Rearfacinggopro for the riveting discussion and solid advice. Well done boys. I guess the only thing left here is for OP to absorb the information and close the sandbox.

So just spark plugs and the tune and thats all? Is it pretty easy to program or install? I'm probably gonna he doing it myself and I'm not that smart when it comes to cars. I do have some friends that might. Just not sure how easy the setup is
Get plugs, it's a cheap added layer of protection that will help you achieve smoother and more efficient performance.

Glad to help at least someone with something!

Maybe one reason to stick with the stock plugs is that it's less of a dead giveaway for dealership technicians.

I don't think technicians are oblivious to the fact that tuning the Stinger requires swapping out or gapping plugs, so the first thing they might do is pull a plug and check if it's stock.

Now if they're really clever they might check the gap, but if its an aftermarket plug it's a dead giveaway that it's been tuned.

I don't know how the rules are in Australia, but if a dealer tried to deny warranty work over ONLY a set of spark plugs in America, that would most likely be the quickest way to win free service for life in a court case.

It's not that they would deny over the spark plugs, it's just that it would tip them off that it was tuned.

Then once they know, Dealer could put up a fight, they could dig further for more evidence, not everyone has the time or resources to fight Kia in courts.

I just had my entire engine replaced and was deeply involved in the entire process. I have HKS plugs and nobody even batted an eye at them. No second glance, nothing.

If you’re worried, just talk with your service manager. I straight up asked when I bought mine cause I knew I’d be back for service. He told me straight out what they do and what they note. He advised me to leave intakes, exhaust, plugs, catch cans, cosmetic items on free and clear but asked that I remove the JB4 for service appts. He said feel free to replace and service items with “like” equipment/parts and I’ll be just fine.

I read your thread, and would rate your dealership as exceptionally friendly due to their own modding of their personal vehicles. When posting advice on warranty matters on the internet, I would choose to hedge on the 99% of dealers that are NOT that friendly towards modding, versus posting exceptions to the rule.

I don't personally tune any more because, as keplaffintech said, I don't have time or interest in battling with a manufacturer. People can do whatever modding they want, and it's a roll of the dice they're willing to make. But let's be clear that it's a roll of the dice with potential negative and/or expensive consequences.

This is 100% correct, you have to know if you have home field advantage before you do anything, so to speak.
