Loss of control on slippery surfaces, like driving on marbles.

I have a 2018 3.0 AWD GT, owned since new. I've always put winter tires on and the first 2 years felt like I was driving on dry pavement when on ice. Half way through last winter the car became extremely unstable when on similar surfaces when driving 60 kms + to the point I've had to pulled over to regain my whit. I've had the tires inspected and they said they look new and the dealer ship said there are no codes showing. Anyone else have this issue?

Snow and winter tires are a little better than shit on ice.

Snow and winter tires are dramatically better than summer tires on SNOW.

I see a lot of comparisons between studded and non-studded tires where they just drive on snow, so it's utterly pointless. Studded and non-studded winter tires are pretty much the exact same on snow and that's not why you get studded.

Nothing works like studded tires on ice. We've had some bad freezing rain this year, but snow also gets impacted over time and turns to ice. Roads are iced for months on end till the sun gets high enough to start blasting it off in the daytime.

I'm not saying everyone needs studded tires...but on ice nothing is close. Winter tires also tend to wear away the initial sipes and tread rather quickly, so even a relatively small amount of wear can cause a significant loss of traction.

Yeah, I remember a rainstorm here last year where all of a sudden, it turned to ice on the ground (ground is always colder than air here), like while cars are going 65mph. Chaos ensued as cars just start sliding all over the place. I've seen it happen at low speeds plenty, but that's when the condition are already there, but to have it happen in such a dynamic setting was...unsettling.

You could try lowering pressure, but likely your normal pressure is around 38 and lowering isn't a good idea long term.

For vehicles with much higher curb weight, you can often get away with just winter tires, not that they can go faster, but they seem to do better with traction at slower speeds...but they tend to have a lot more weight on the axles. My RWD camaro on the other hand, even with the same studded tires as my Stinger...you can steer, but putting power down is futile, you often can't get started or moving with any kind of slope and any kind of ice just makes you the idiot that can't get moving in traffic. With some weight in the trunk it's better, but it's dramatically demonstrating how important weight over the drive axle is.

3.0 AWD?

Do you have the 2.0 or the 3.3? Engine?

I suppose it doesn't matter.

Did anything change half way through last winter?
Any curbs hit? Are you the only driver?

do any stingers come from the factory with winter tires? dont they come with All Seasons instead of winter. all seasons and awd still dont make a difference on ice. someone else on this forum explained this somewhere. theres a limit on driving on snow and ice. wonder if you'd do better with all seasons. what does the manual say about what tires should be on the stinger? isnt it supposed to only be summer tires or all seasons?

Mine came with UHP summers. (Michelin PS4), despite living in a snowy climate.

The manual only specifies what tire size and load index/speed rating are required, it doesn't specify summer, winter, all season or all weather.

my18 a/s tires were bridgestone potenzas as far as I know on all stingers in the northern latitudes of the usa; why canada got michelin summers is beyond me. later kia changed to michelin a/s tires. and you could pretty much get pilot summer sport tires anywhere it just depended on the vehicle. iirc the manual does mention the use of winter tires if you live in a climate that needs them. but kia never sent out a stinger with winter tires.

22 and 23 in the US have Michelin PS4 summers on RWD and Michelin Primacy A/S on AWD. Just replaced the Primacy with Pirelli WeatherActive A/W for the winter.

I don't know of any car manufacturer that sells cars with winter tires. Maybe some dealers opt to offer them as extras.
Regarding to the OP's problem... how old are your tires (DOT)? What about thread depth? Anything under 4mm is not ok for snow/ice, especially if they are on the rear.

How old are the tires? Where were they stored during summer?

Experienced a similar situation on an icy road, car felt like it wanted to swap ends. My tire pressures were off on one side. I adjusted the tire pressures and the car felt much better. Just a couple of pounds made a huge difference.

2019 stinger awd same here. If I hit some ice I can feel the car shift. New all seasons. Seem to need new rear tires every 15000miles

holy moly every 15k? ive almost got 15K and my tires are like brand new luckily. ive driven a lot on ice and snow this winter with all seasons/awd and some days its almost as bad as a fwd accord i had. my tire pressures are low all around of course because of the cold weather. ive noticed on warmer days this winter, the tire pressures almost get to where they are supposed to be. i wonder if the guy saying he's slipping on ice really bad.. if he's got too much pressure. winter wont go away in utah.

winter wont go away in utah.
preach it.
for those who enjoy washing their cars this winter is providing many opportunities, I speak of 'winter' in the present because spring has not arrived yet.
