So I have an appointment with the Kia dealer at noon today to discuss a 2019 Ceramic/red gt2. Any last minute advise? (that isn't already in this thread)
Take an extra key for your trade in and when they hide the key so you can't leave, pull out the 2nd key and say, I'll come by later for my key. Wear comfortable clothes and take a book or game to keep yourself entertained--it may take 5-6 hours of your refusing their offers before they get into reasonable territory, the 2nd key is really important if you trade. To them it's a game and they won't be insulted.

Wow, it sounds like trying to buy a car in the US can be a painful experience, if I was stuffed around by a car salesman/dealer like that I would have left within 1 hour & someone would be looking to be hurt if they played hide the key...WTF is that! Also a dealership wouldn’t last long here playing games.Take an extra key for your trade in and when they hide the key so you can't leave, pull out the 2nd key and say, I'll come by later for my key. It's an old trick some car yards (in AUS) used in the 80's, i kid you not. Another was to say your car had already been sold. Are you joking?
If a dealership didn't want to give my key back the day would end with an assault charge.![]()
I just start to make a very loud and public scene in the showroom when they wont return the key promptly. It's an old trick some car yards (in AUS) used in the 80's, i kid you not. Another was to say your car had already been sold.
it's definitely not a universal experience here, I've never had those sorts of issues. The worst I've had is them taking 20 minutes every time they go talk to the sales manager to "negotiate" a better price.Wow, it sounds like trying to buy a car in the US can be a painful experience, if I was stuffed around by a car salesman/dealer like that I would have left within 1 hour & someone would be looking to be hurt if they played hide the key...WTF is that! Yes, it's always 20-30 minutes when they go back. I never know if they're really discussing things for that long, or they're just trying to wait you out and break you down. When I bought my Stinger I think some of them were legit though since they said they were checking with their used sales office, probably to get thoughts on my trade value. It still only took 4 hours from stepping in the door to driving away with my car, having never stepped foot in that dealership previously, and for being Christmas Eve. It's the least amount of time I've ever spent buying a car, and there was still room for improvement.it's definitely not a universal experience here, I've never had those sorts of issues. Entirely unplanned. I had planned on starting my visits after Christmas, but the dealer I bought from convinced me (really twisted my arm by just stating that they were open) to make an appointment for Christmas Eve rather than the day after Christmas, and then I went to another dealer that Saturday before and did my first test drive, but they couldn't get remotely close enough on my trade. Then I went to my appointment on Christmas Eve and 4 hours later left with a Stinger. You make 4 of us that I'm aware of that bought their car on Christmas eve!![]()
