LAP3 Review for 2.0

Can anyone please tell me the gains on the 2.0 with this chip installed? torque and HP. Thanks

I should have the 2.0 Stinger on the dyno this weekend as long as the weather holds up. I’ll do a run with and without the LAP3 and see what the whp difference is. I’ve since added NGK ILKR9Q7G spark plugs, as it was the recommended 1 step colder spark plug. We’ll see what she puts down. I’m hoping 260-270 to the wheels but will probably see 250 WHP.

Should be interesting!

Sweet! Cant wait for the stats.

@Marty17 any updates yet?

Yea, and let me lead by saying they’re pretty dismal. I posted a whole new topic on the dyno results, but I’ll explain in a few words what happened.

I think they calibrated the dyno wrong when my car was on it (based on my elementary knowledge of how dynos work). They did not have 2018 Stinger specs in their program so they used a K900 and adjusted the weight to 3600 lbs (RWD). I had a friend there who quickly pointed out to me that he saw them leave AWD active on there. Right or wrong here are the dyno results: 1st curve is w/o LAP3 and second one is with LAP3.

A whopping 27rwhp gain. A little off from the 50whp that is claimed. It’s more like 50 at the crank, according to the dyno.

After putting up this dismal numbers, I keep having to tell myself that dynos are a measuring tool used to see the difference a mod makes!

Which octane setting was your chip set to?

Thanks! I'd only be able to run the 91 setting, so maybe 20whp for me? Hm. For the price, I'm wondering if the juice is worth the squeeze in my case. However, I've not driven it chipped either, so cannot speak from personal experience. For me the midrange punch is fine, it's the feeling of it running out of breath on the top end that I'd like to see improved upon. Subjectively speaking how would you describe the difference the chip makes on the top end?

hmmm...i wonder if you can try to get it redone the proper way and tell them the specs so they can enter in the computer and leave AWD off.

Yea I’ll have to take it to another place and see what it puts down there. I think they also did the runs in 4th gear and not 5th. Our 5th gears are our 1:1 ratios. I’ll keep everyone updated and hopefully will get back on a dyno next month.

UPDATE: I just did a 500 mile round trip to Philadelphia and ended up fouling a spark plug. I guess these colder ones don’t really like cruise control. I’ve since put the stock spark plugs back and ended up taking off the LAP3. I could not get the car to function right and always had seconds thoughts when pushing it.

I’m going to wait until more information comes out and/or purchase a JB4/Racechip when they’re available for the Stinger. They adjust more variables, so hopefully I ‘ll feel safer. I hope This information gets passed along to future 2.0 buyers!

What I’ve learned:
- One step colder NGK spark plugs will foul.
- I had knocking no matter what setting I used. This happened weather I used different gas, put octane booster in, 93 setting, and 91 setting.
- If someone figures out the perfect formula, please message me.
- Maybe I am a little apprehensive since the car never broke down, but I’m just going to enjoy the 2.0 and not worry about a thing now.
- I was never stranded, broke down, etc when using the LAP3. This is MY decision and I’m sure other people are using it with success.

Thanks for the update and sorry it didn’t work out in the end. Were there any misfires or CEL? And did all the plugs foul, any cracks?

Yes thanks for the heads up. I had one in my Optima and never had a issue. So bizzarre

I had ngk's (wallet) for plugs and a lap 3 ....in the middle of a launch control it popped...and continued to pop on deceleration or coasting (off the throttle)......took the lap 3 out went to kia 4 new plugs changed (one broken) get this , (warranty) WOW as for the severity or if anything went into the cylinder They didn't say and stupidly I didn't ask.......Kinda doubt I'd be told the truth anyway. switching to hks m45xl's and a 93 tune.......tried and true as long as keep the octane up.
