Knock on JB4 Map 2 with 93 Octane (stock Stinger)

Throttle is used to regulate boost, boost tapers at redline, so you should see throttle movement during shifts especially on lower maps. Look at psi vs psi2 to see how much trimming is taking place (not throttle position that won't tell you).

Ahhh gotcha. Thanks for the explanation! I'll take a look at the logs again.

Dont know which thread to post on but was wondering how much psi are u getting on map 2 with 93 octane... i have GFB respons BOV and wonder if it affects psi and should try to tune em better.. im getting 15 psi occasionally 16 psi (canadian gas)

I'm getting about the same, but it's not even a sustained 15psi. It tapers off pretty quick. At highway speeds I only get between 13 and 15 psi. I only have a day's worth of logs though so this could change over time. I've attached two snapshots so you can see my boost over a few 0-60 pulls.

Update: Over the past week I've run some more logs and tried Map 0, Map 1 and Map 2. Things seem to run smoothly on all maps, but I did hear some odd sounds again so it looks like the JB4 not being mounted tight enough wasn't the entire issue. This time I heard the sound on Map 1, again, between shifts (1st to 2nd). I checked the logs and everything looked good. no CEL (check engine lights) or odd stuttering, etc. either. I just removed all loose articles in my car (coins in the center console, etc) to at least rule out something as dumb as my sounds related to things shifting around in the car due to harder acceleration on higher maps. We'll see how it goes from here.

@Terry@BMS, you mentioned that throttle is cut to adjust boost and that throttle dropping between shifts is common on lower maps. However, this is only happening on a higher map in my case and almost always when starting in first gear from a rolling start of around 10MPH or higher. I understand that this still falls under the "normal" category, but I find it odd that after about 20 pulls between Map 0 and Map 1, I've never seen the throttle drop. Meanwhile, I see a throttle drop between 1st and 2nd about 80% of the time on Map 2.

You also mentioned looking at psi vs psi2. I'm assuming that's boost and boost2 on the Stinger? I don't see an option for psi or psi2. Is boost my actual boost and boost2 the target boost? Would trimming be a drop in boost or boost2, relative to the other? I've read that a 1 psi deviation from target is normal, but at what point does it become concerning?

I read through this thread: Logging Parameters and their Meaning - N54Tech.com - International Turbo Racing Discussion but it only references boost and target, no mention of psi2 or boost2.

Last question. In an earlier post, you mentioned that my "issues" could be adaption related. Is the JB4 learning or are you referring to the Stinger's ECU learning? Are there any articles that go more in depth on what you mean by "adaption" that I can read?

Thanks again for the patience and help with this!

Got another update. The sounds have mostly gone away, but I heard a creaking sound, again, when at WOT (wide open throttle). It occurred right when boost kicked in and the car started accelerating hard. I'm thinking this was the sound of the body rocking back, or maybe the struts. It sounded very similar to the sound you hear when lowering the car back down after lifting it to do a tire change/oil change. Hence why I think it's body/strut related. Has anyone else heard something like this before?

The good news is that I don't hear the rocks in a can sound anymore. And I've determined that the sounds didn't actually come from the JB4 sliding (like I originally thought). Perhaps it was legitimately knock. All I know is, either the JB4 or the car corrected itself and I no longer hear the sound. My logs also don't look bad either. Well, minus the throttle drop almost every time I shift from first to second under WOT.

@Terry@BMS, while I feel much better about running Map 2, I'm still curious about psi2/boost2 and what you meant by "adaption" (see my previous post). Any help on understanding those two things would be greatly appreciated :)

Hello there. I know this is an older thread but I was wondering if you were able to respond the issue.

I have a 2.0L and experienced the exact same issue, the noise that sounds like ticking/creaking/rattling under acceleration, typically before the car shifts to lower gear.

I was never about up solve the problem do ended up going back to stock until I be could.

Thank you in advance.

Hey Echo, are you in Alabama? Just curious about your JB4 install, did you do everything yourself? I’m in central Alabama. Thanks!

Not in Alabama. I left AL in 2010. Yes, I did everything myself.

Sorry for the long delay! It's been quite a while since I've been on the forum. I did fix the problem and wrote up a thread on everything I did. Some of my noise was related to things sliding around due to the higher torque, other performance issues were fixed by replacing my spark plugs again, but making sure they were genuine Denso plugs and gapping with a high quality tool that wouldn't scar the electrodes. The last thing was to reset the ECU by unplugging my battery from the trunk for at least 30 minutes.

Here's the link to the post for a much more detailed write-up, but, long story short, I'm now consistently running sub 4.5 second 0-60s with just the JB4 and DIY intakes.

How to fix terrible ign timing (without increasing octane)

Hey thanks. Was just trying to see if I could find someone that had done this before near me. Just saw another one of your posts about the Rostra 250-8709 mirror. Do you have a link? Couldn’t find that price online when I looked today and am interested in getting one. Thanks!

A good question that’s better asked in the appropriate thread.
