Kia Stinger Rumored To Make A Comeback Based On Trademark Filings

Focusing on the upper echelon with big fat profit margins is fine and dandy. However, without a lead-in entry-level for younger buyers, Genesis risks chasing the older wealthier clientele into their graves
Agreed, for BMW to sell $130k super cruiser sedans, and ultimately SUVs, they first had to be "the ultimate driving machine". Selling a much higher quantity of more affordable cars to younger buyers could create a generation of enthusiasts who'd grow into the mega sedans.

My longtime criticism of the Kia/Hyundai twins (Telluride/Palisade etc) is that there isn't sufficient brand distinction, and even though Genesis is clearly upmarket, I don't think the Stinger & G70 are clearly demarcated. If they made Kia the performance division, with Genesis versions loaded up in luxury, that would also create an entry point.

Moving the G70 downmarket is not an exciting plan if they only give it the 4 cylinder. The Stinger & G70 have a case against the mass market luxury brands because they offer a legitimate powertrain and 90% of an S4 or M440 for 60% of the price. Take away the performance version and you lose the enthusiast market.

Agree with this 100%.

No matter what they do, they need to have a v6 TT, because I will not buy a 4-cylinder either.

I'll tell you what, I would be totally in for a downsized sporty 2-door with 400+ hp!

When I bought the Stinger, Kia was not even on my radar screen when shopping. But then I came across the Stinger, and I was like, what the heck is that - it's beautiful! And then I found out it was a TT v6 and I was sold, especially after driving it.

Hopefully Genesis can come up with something similar with its Gen2 G70, and I will buy it.

Ditto. The badge was the only thing I didn't like, so once they changed it I pulled the trigger.
Only regret is the face-lift downgrades. Loving everything else!

While the G70 stays in production, I doubt Genesis would pull the V6TT option. That article explained that Genesis simply wants the starting MSRP to drop below $40k.

If anything, some of the latest rumors out of Korea seem to suggest Genesis wants to expand the G70's coverage on the high end as well. That's what all that Magma performance talk was all about. Again, this makes sense. Just look at how broad the 3-series covers... from the $40k's all the way up to $110k for a loaded M3.

Sure SUVs are their money makers, but Genesis desperately needs a performance halo car. That doesn't mean a luxo boat GV90 limousine for rich Arabs or corporate CEOs. Genesis the brand needs something that can go toe-to-toe with the M3 Competition and AMG C63. If they have the gumption to do that, then the G70 line will prosper, and Genesis will sell as many entry-level 4cyl G70s, as BMW does lower-end 3-series.

Easy formula for that: use the 3.5TT from the higher models, with the "e-supercharger" and 415 horsepower. Maybe a bit of tuning to push it closer to 450.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I really hope something materialises otherwise the Stinger and wifeys Cerato GT will get sold next year and we will downsize to just 1 Hyundai N Line product.

Or BMW lol

This is basically exactly how I feel. I own a base gt. There's no way I would've bought the 4 cylinder, not hating but if I hadn't bought the the base gt I'd probably be rollin in a Camry xse V6. At the time the 2.5 t model wasn't out yet so that wasn't an option.

I think the funniest thing is in 30 years time your kids are trying to buy a Retro BYD Ute or Kia EV6.

"I really want it cos I can charge it in 18.7 mimutes and though it only does 100kmh in 2.6 seconds, it is the nostalgia I am really into................"
