Kia Stinger Rumored To Make A Comeback Based On Trademark Filings

Part of the fun of owning a "fun car" is the roar and the rumble. Electric is the future, but I want to enjoy the visceral experience of a performance ICE while I still can.

Still looking forward to the next generation Stinger :coffee:

The Stinger will never come back in its present form

As much as I enjoy the performance aspect of the Stinger, its versatility and practicality are really why I bough the car. An EV would never come remotely close to matching the ICE Stinger in those regards. Case and point is our Summer trip to the Smoky Mountains. It's about 1000 miles each way, and we did each one-way in about 17hrs over night. No doubt some intrepid souls would argue they could do the trip with an EV... and more electric power to them. I sure as heck am not going to attempt that.

If the Stinger comes back and it's an EV - I am OUT.

If the Stinger comes back and it's a v6 TT - I am IN.

If the Stinger comes back with a v6 TT 'RS' model - I will buy that version.

I’d add a hybrid to that list. If done properly.

The Genesis 3.5TT, with the "E supercharger" and torque-vectoring LSD, would be an awesome powertrain in Stinger guise. It looks like it has the same "headifold" as the 3.3, meaning difficult to upgrade the turbos, but it starts at 415/405 vs. our 368/376.

Not sure if the turbos are any bigger, but the extra displacement, supercharger, and 1000lb lighter platform would make it a beast.

My ignorance - what does "RS" mean? I think I knew once, but you know, brain fade.

Stinger not coming back.............. hope I'm wrong!

They'll probably bring it back like the Mitsubishi Eclipse, make it a horrible SUV.

I just assumed it was a reference to Audi's A/S/RS hierarchy (the latter being Sport and RennSport, or Racing Sport).

Thank you for reminding me of that. Mitsu completely screwed the pooch doing that.

There are reports that Genesis is having a change of heart about killing off the G70. Apparently 2nd Gen is coming, albeit a bit late. I've always considered the Stinger more of a G70 Gran Coupe. At this point, that prospect is slim but might be more realistic that a Kia badged ICE gran tourismo.

I'd be down potentially for a g70. Only issues are price and not having the hatchback.

An updated G70 would be a cool consolation prize. I hope it gets the 3.5, which in addition to a bit better power potential, should have better mileage, and with direct + port injection, not have any issues with carbon buildup.

A dual clutch would also be on the wish list, but maybe too much to ask (since I don't think Kia/Hyundai have one for RWD/longitudinal).

IMO, the talk of "600+HP" and Magma Performance line is rather fanciful. So far, the Magma line has has been mostly just blinged-up toys for rich Arabs. I do hope Genesis proves me wrong.

I myself am more interested in chassis refinement. Switching to double wishbone front suspension would be great. If Alfa can do it on the similar sized Giulia, I don't see why it couldn't be done on the G70. If the G70 is to deliver genuine track-focused performance and enhanced driving dynamics, that is the proper way to start.

That and Brembo 6-pot front and 4-pot rear.

I dont know if things have changed but the last dct I drove didn't shift smoothly. I think Genesis is focusing more on luxury than performance.

I really think that this might happen. But, it will be an EV. Maybe an ICE option, but I don't think

that will happen due to KIA and its proclivity to produce strictly EV's going forward. And that is a

a damn shame.

According to the link below which is dated after your link, says that the G70 is on the chopping block:

Let's say Genesis keeps the G70 and a new model arrives. In order for me to buy one, they will have to really improve its styling - that HUGE grill has to go for starters.

On the other hand, the Stinger is still a beautiful car, one of the best looking on the road bar-none, IMO. I've owned my 2022 for 3.5 years now, and every time I walk into the garage I am still captivated by its sexy, curvaceous looks.

What's not to like:

It's wild seeing that article claim the G70 is at the small end of the market and not big enough to be profitable. The Stinger isn't even a 3 Series / S4 size car (former "compact executives" that have really become midsize over the years), it's in between the 3 & 5, or S4 & S6.

I guess what they really mean is they'd rather sell $80-90k G80s & G90s than $55k G70s, but that's even funnier considering $60k Hyundais didn't exist just a few years ago.

I do think the big Genesis grilles make it hard to tell the sedan & SUV models apart, so the easy answer would be to slim down the G70 (& GV70) ones to clearly demarcate them as the "compact", sporty models.

I get the sense G70 will be around long enough for a 2nd gen, but corporate is having a tough time justifying it in the long term. Lowering the entry floor, as mentioned in this article, makes some sense:

Focusing on the upper echelon with big fat profit margins is fine and dandy. However, without a lead-in entry-level for younger buyers, Genesis risks chasing the older wealthier clientele into their graves. You don't see any of the established luxury brands without entry level offerings.
