  • Kia may be reviving the Stinger sports sedan after a trademark filing, hinting at a possible comeback for the iconic model.
  • Previous rumors about the Stinger returning as an EV were squashed, but a new trademark filing has reignited speculation.
  • Speculation suggests a new Stinger may feature a hybrid powertrain with a updated version of the twin-turbo Lambda V-6 engine.

Writers gotta write or perish. But at least there is apparently some substance to this rumor. But other than the registration for the "Kia Stinger" nameplate, everything else is just speculation. Gotta write!

Printed in the Melbourne newspaper a few days ago.

Simply renewing the trademark so that someone else doesn't pinch it.

Which is why Elon Musk could never fulfill his dream to have Models S... E... X... and Y because FORD refuses to give up the trademark for the "E" Model which, they have never used.

Yeah, it sounds like the only thing concrete is Kia's trademark lawyers updating a filing, and then a bunch of "sources say" filler.

The article says Genesis offers the Lambda V6 as a NA 3.8 and TT 3.3, and Kia engineers might be working on a 3.5. But Genesis has offered a 3.5 since at least 2022, so the author is either unfamiliar or maybe saw a 3.5 reference and assumed it's for a new Stinger.

He also quotes the 0-60 as 4.9 for RWD and 5.4 for AWD, and the 2.5's "311 torques". So I'm thinking this is a high volume, high speculation, low research operation...

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Don't get me wrong, I love our cars and I'd love to be able to buy a newer model but ............ calling the Stinger iconic? That's a bit of a stretch ain't it?

Here in the States, Ford had the Econoline series of full size work vans for many decades. The model designation was "E", like "F" is for their trucks. I had a 2005 E-150 Chateau. Way more useful than any pickup truck I've had.

The cargo and passenger E-series vans are no more, as of 2014(?), replaced by the Transit. However, Ford still has the E-series heavy-duty cutaway box van: https://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/e-series-cutaway/models/e350-cutaway-srw/

As for the Stinger revival... meh. I'll believe it when I see one for sale in local dealer showroom. Same goes for the Hyundai N Vision 74.

They are protecting the name for a future release, not for a release anytime soon.

Maybe they plan on doing what Mitsubishi did with the Eclipse. I owned a last gen coupe before they released the 'eclipse cross' monstrosity. Maybe the 'new' Stinger will be a soccer mom SUV instead lol:rolleyes:

There you go thanks for the Update.

They did not explain that in the Elon Musk book. He just banged on about Ford not letting him use the E Model designation because Ford said they would use it one day like the "T" Model

To be fair, I think GM protected, and still protects, the "Firebird" trademark even though Pontiac has been gone a long time.

Christ, Allah, and Odin I hope not!

Maybe one day they'll bring the Firebird and all it's shaker hood glory back from the ashes lol. I loved mine.

I wouldn't bother renewing the EV6 patent if I were Kia.

Don't remind me, this is the only reason I even own a Stinger cuz GM cancelled my beloved Pontiac.

Same. Can't complain about the Stinger, but no more Pontiac hurt.

I believe the Kia CEO said something to the effect that the Stinger will become a performance nameplate at some point in the future. Think EV6 Stinger, etc.

Unlikely they are going to revive a naturally aspirated model that was a loss leader for them.

If the development of multi-fuel ICE continues apace, the EV craze will take a fatal bullet in the dominance battle. ICE will continue for a long time yet. The future is unwritten and all this government subsidy push for EV and electric everything - all eggs in one basket - is doomed. You can't remove energy on demand capability and replace it with wind, solar and batteries. That is obvious on its face.

That isn't this discussion. The Stinger as we knew it is dead. Move on.

EVs are going to continue to be a thing, just not at the wide scale expected or hoped for. At least not in the short term. Countless past discussions on this and all the pros/cons. Feel free to have the same conversations over and over again without me.
