Kia Stinger Rear Hatch Rattle

Just curious, the gasket you placed over top of the bumper seems to be thick. When the hatch is closed did it effect the fit and finish of it to the quarter panel? Does the hatch still lay flush?

It’s thicker but it squishes down pretty good. I think the key is the extra separation of the two pieces and making it tight prevents the rattling. From what I can see there is no visible difference outside when the trunk is closed.

Where can we get a list of affected VIN numbers as my Stinger is arriving in February and I’d like to check if my VIN is on that list
My dealer said that the cars with the problem were already delivered in the earlier shipments. It was a temporary problem that was diagnosed early and corrected at the plant subsequently. Any cars coming in now shouldn't be on the list, but the dealer will have the list.

I’m actually very curious about this. Some are reporting the issue still exists after the dealer installs the fix (some are on multiple trips to the dealer) so I wonder if this is the same fix the plant is putting on new ones? Can anyone with a car outside the affected build dates confirm if they have this issue? Or better yet can someone with a newer batch take a picture of those two bumpers so we can see what they look like?

So far the dealer fixed the constant rattle with the TSB part but still makes a noise over bad bumps or dips. Way way way better than before as it sounded like I was hauling scrap metal before the fix.

I'm sure you guys have read in other posts about this.

Was talking to my dealer today and Australia Kia have now received the rattling rear hatch (on some) notice.

I'm booked in.

Thanks for sharing. I'll get mine looked at with my 10k service. I've tried adjusting the bumpers, but it's still not ideal.

Could be a whole new topic, but the very front of my sunroof has a 'soft' click on the slightest change on the road... Are others experiencing this? I'll get that checked also.... can you imagine explaining and their explanation of how SMOOTH the car was when they drove it??!!

Define soft click....

As car twists you may hear some movement but nothing serious. Used to happen of my Optima platinum.

Hi, don't know if this has been issued before in the thread.. But kia has sent a service memo for the rattling noice.. There is a manufacture flaw that makes that noise and needs to be fixed by the dealer under warranty.. See document attached...sent it to my dealer and they are already looking for for the parts to fix it... Send it to yours!!

This is nice as it explains how to adjust the overslam bumpers. Thanks for posting!

B65084A5-A79A-49B9-8227-DE6C0BB6DF95.webp I went to Home Depot and got felt furniture pads and placed them on the top side of the guide bumpers. My car is finally noise free. Now for the dealer to make a final repair.

i got the weather stripping, gonna try the bumper foam.

I didn’t specify in my post but make sure it’s the squishy kind of foam stripping not the solid kind.

Sad that we have to resort to this but glad it worked for you, yours has the TSB applied already right and it still didn’t resolve it? Mine has been rattle free since I put my “fix” in too, so nice to drive without that awful noise anymore! Hopefully Kia gets it together soon!

I've tried the overslam bumpers in every different length with no success. Can't wait for the new fix as first recall is totally insufficient.

my rattle is gone with the weather seal foam. looks ugly, but who knows when dealer will call back for appt.

Yeah the overslam bumpers are a temporary fix by separating the two upper bumpers, but as they work their way back in the rattle comes back.

Good to hear, I tried a few other random things I found at the hardware store but so far the foam is the most effective. I never use my trunk so for I’m good for now but I think the felt pads Bryan used are better if you frequently open/close the trunk since they stick better.
