Kia Stinger Rear Hatch Rattle

Yesterday I perceived the rattle on my GT, I hadn't before since I normaly play loud music, but it is definitely there. I will call my dealer today.

It's definitely the hatchback rattle. Don't get me wrong. It's definitely better than it used to be before the kit was installed. I've turned the bump stops out some too. I've looked at everything by the spare tire. All tight.

Just to underline the point, if the rear, adjustable bumpstops are unscrewed too far, they will lift the hatch slightly off of the bumpstops that are in the rails on the sides. This will create the rattle. If unscrewing them doesn't make the problem go away, or even makes it worse, I would try screwing them in further, instead. I hope that makes sense!

Excellent point

I got the TSB done this morning and I no longer have the rattle. I've tested this over "sure sources of noise" and it is non existent. Hopefully, it will stay this way.
Nice! I detest rattles in my car.. this is THE reason I didn’t purchase a C43 AMG. The interior was beautiful, but leaving the parking lot of the dealer, there was a brick/cobblestone type patch of pavement we drove over. I heard rattles from at least three different places on that patch.. it was worse than my Civic!

What @westcoastGT said. I just got back from my dealership for the 2nd adjustment of the bump stops and poof! Sound is gone again! I think if the tightening is too tight, you might get the rattle, if too loose, you might get the rattle, so they may have to 'play' with the tightness of the bump stops to get it dialed down.

Thanks! I will adjust mine a bit. That makes sense.

So how many Techs does it take to figure out the rattle noise on my Stinger? The answer is: I don’t know yet because it’s still not fixed. They thought they had it. When I left it made the noise as I left the parking lot. So turned around and they are back to the drawing board. They will be contacting Kia for some answers. I guess the fourth time is a charm?!?!

It seems we might be in the same boat with this issue. They are certainly on the right track with addressing the rattle but it just needs to be a little bit tighter I believe. I'm confident it can be figured out.

Same here, it did get better but still certain bumps it makes a noise. I can say they do want to get it resolved and are trying.

My dealership does not have a tech specific to the Stinger. I was told they had their lead guy on it though. Kia is aware of the problem and they should have the parts to attempt a repair. Hopefully they get it taken care of for you. Good luck!

This is a post I did last week, it may be helpful: "The Stinger authorized mechanic at my dealership had just returned from his second Stinger training and went through the installation of the kit with me. He indicated that the torque instructions in SA322 for the bolts after the new pad and washers were installed was important to the success of the kit. He also said my overslam bumper stops were out of tolerance as required in SA322. My guess would be that if the bolts are over torqued, that the spacing designed to be built in with the new pads and washers might not be there and the rattle might persist. Just a guess, but my rattle was very severe and the kit, properly installed, completely cured it." also, my dealership designated a Stinger mechanic in November (happened to be their lead mechanic). He has been to two Stinger-specific trainings and is the only person authorized to prep new Stingers and perform maintenance on them. The dealership GM said that he felt it would be worth the time and expense in the long run.

The first step is to bring the issue to their attention. If they're normal human beings they should be able to take it from there. If somehow they don't know what to do, find another dealership to service your Stinger.

Please let us know if they get any updated info from corporate on what to do to for these Stingers that aren't fully fixed with the standard repair kit.

no tech or parts available at my appt. need to re-schedule for next week.
