Kia Stinger Rear Hatch Rattle

Have you had the dealer look at the rattle again since you said it resurfaced?

Not yet, I have it scheduled for next weekend. After the first repair we have experienced very low temps and I have put more miles on the car. I’m not sure if it’s the cold or breaking the car in but the noise has gotten worse.

I had my recall kit installed yesterday. It is way better but I heard it a couple times when hitting an abrupt bump that kicks the rear end up quickly. Keep us all posted if they're able to make yours better. (And how they fix it). I can't get to dealership for a while. Thanks

To be honest, I really didn't notice it until they installed the kit. I will be going back this weekend to talk to them about it. It sounds as if something is just sitting in the trunk
when hitting an abrupt bump that kicks the rear end up quickly
and the item bounces in the trunk. Kind of like when we were kids and we always tried to get into the back seats of the school bus just to bounce around in the back of the bus every time it hit a bump. God, it's a wonder we survived, eh? Having mom's who smoked and drank while pregnant, drinking from the water hose when we got thirsty, etc. :p

I asked this in the survey post - but I want to ask here as well... Is anyone WITH THE POWERED HATCH affected?

I have the rattle that I can somewhat mitigate by extending the bumpers, but not quite completely. I've not emptied the rear hatch of everything, including the cover, in case something else is rattling though, yet. Also, my VIN apparently isn't listed in the TSB document. I'll be finding much more out when it's not sub-zero here in a few days.

Is there a list of affected VINs in the TSB document? Did I miss it?

Picking up my car tomorrow, can not wait.
I sent the info Kazz had posted (thanks) to my dealer to make sure no rattles on collection.
Apparently in the UK it is a known issue but dealers are being asked to check the catches, adjust and tighten. No kit available at present.
However, I think all cars in UK so far have the powered tailgate.

BTW is anybody's manual hatchback actually popping open slightly using the remote? The Stinger " Features and Functions Guide " claims it will pop up slightly open and then you must lift it manually to the top. Mine never pops up.

Somebody else has mentioned this as well. I have a feeling it might be right here in this discussion. But you're not the only one who's brought this up...

The refusal to pop up makes me wonder if it could be related to the rattle. Possibly not under sufficient pressure?

A friend have also the stinger and he did not have the rattle.
I asked him and he send pictures.
You can see the grease on the bumbers?
Maybe this is an easy issue for the problem...

Thank you for posting this. Let's see if this helps anyone with the issue. There IS a technical service bulletin and some Stinger hatches need parts replaced. But this may solve the issue for other people who may not need new parts. Let's see...

Grease doesn't sound right for a contact surface like that. It would become a dirt magnet. Are you sure it's not just wet, as other surfaces seem to be in those photos?

Definitely Silicon-Grease.
Not my first choice - but when it helps.
Better than rattling...

I feel stupid now, but I didn’t do it! Hehe

So I went to the dealership and got the kit install for the rear hatch noise last Saturday, though I never really noticed it. Then, I really start noticing it and I’m like WTF?!?

So earlier this week, I take all the trays and carpets out of the hatch, look around and put the stuff back. It only gets worse. So today I take it back to the dealer and told them, uh, there’s this noise coming from the back, it does it at various speeds and bumps; it never does it over same bump or at same speed. I go sit in waiting area and not 5 minutes later, the tech comes back and says, yeah, apparently we forgot to check the spare tire last week and the “nut” was almost falling off the bolt holding spare tire in place. So what you heard was the spare tire bouncing around. We tightened it back up.

/facepalm

Why didn’t I notice and/or think of it earlier in week?

Noise gone. Imagine that! LOL

Well! At least the solution to YOUR rear hatch noise issue was simple to resolve... :)

Is your car a manually operated hatch?

Where can we get a list of affected VIN numbers as my Stinger is arriving in February and I’d like to check if my VIN is on that list
