Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

I will see about uploading by Tuesday. I am currently out of town for a few days.
Unfortunately, after checking the size of the last update I applied (V12) I don't have enough space left in my Google Drive account to accommodate V12.5 - so had to delete that folder. There are a number of free file sharing services out there - but like Google Drive, most are only free up to a certain size, after which you have to purchase a storage upgrade. :(

Thanks again for the info (and confirmation) on how to successfully apply the system side of the update, though personally I'd have to get the Canadian version anyway. Perhaps I can find someone locally who has done the 12.5 update.

Why are you and others letting KIA off the hook?

1) Unless you have received two updates from KIA, you haven't yet had your free update--the first one only brought the car to the state it should have been in when you picked it up. Why else are we paying for dealer prep?

2) Since we now know that the latest update can be loaded and then you can revert to your licensed maps by putting your old card back in, what possible reason does KIA or a dealer have to not do this for you? Let you borrow an SD card or give you an SD card so you can do this update. Their precious over-priced map updates are preserved. How can they not do this when otherwise you are being denied useful and free UI updates to UVO!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Call the dealer and/KIA customer service and demand the update, or, ask them what their alternative plan is to get it to you if they don't like option 2.

I am prepared to publicize this outrageous incompetence now that we know there is such a simple solution. For most of us. Apparently the wizards who run KIA haven't figured-out how to upload the updates via the dealer's system for those who own a Stinger without an SD slot. They have no option.

And by the way, before anyone decides to use-up their real "free update," be aware that the Bluetooth implementation is bare-bones and worse than most competitors (features). They also have not yet addressed the simplest issues related to music sorting and listings. Another update is already needed, and presumably will be coming at some point, even if it is at KIA's glacial pace. Caveat emptor.

I just received an emailed survey link from MNSoft on (primarily) the ease of use and installation of the initial system&map update I purchased (and was reimbursed for by KIA) for the Stinger.

At the end, there is a space to enter any comments, and I made sure to mention the pressing need to separate what should be free system updates from the paid map/navigation updates.

I don't normally respond to survey requests, but I made time for this one. I'd encourage all of those who receive it to make your feelings known on liberating the system updates as a no-cost download.

Good idea to inform them. Unfortunately, it is only KIA that can make that decision or implement. MNSoft just provides maps to OEMs, eithe rpaid or for free depending on the arrangement (KIA has both depending on what country you are in, as we know).

If people want this to happen, they need to protest to KIA directly.

The GT2 is wifi enabled so if you are within wifi range of your house (sitting in the garage for example) you should be able to update via your own wifi router.

Has anyone successfully updated the map via wifi?

I connected to my home WiFi... then went into the system -> update. Wouldn’t give me an option to pull from WiFi. Only from SD card. Bastards.

I honestly have no idea the point of connecting the system to WiFi.

There is none.

Cars with telematics (like in Canada) use the car's Internet connection for those services. So if you used your home wi-fi, you'd only be able to for example locate your car in your own driveway or garage ;) The cars with telematics have their own cell data account, so they can communicate wherever there is cell service (of the carrier that provides the service).

Kia has done free software upgrades seperately from map updates before - my Optima got one. I don't know what the criteria is for when they do this, and it's possible it's more trouble than it's worth due to consumers doing the upgrades wrong, causing support costs, etc... Who knows...

I just spoke to KIA. This is the deal. As a policy they charge for all software upgrades. But because of the proximity of time between the purchase and upgrade, they are making an exception for me. I suggest anyone who bought recently should try to push the envelope on this and get their new SD card. I called the "Premium Team": 855-542-7733.

On a sadder note, you will not be able to use all functionality of the UVO app because the car does not have a modem (unlike most of the top line KIA's, according to the rep). Maybe in future model years. So no remote start through UVO.

Just wanna echo this worked for me. Called and told them it was out of date, by 2 versions, and I just bought both my stingers. They sent out and I got about 3 days later, was awesome service!

Dealer updated my maps on my 10000K service. I asked them first and they said it costs and they don't do it. When I went to pick up my vehicle later they had done it so they tell me.

Well my dealer did mine no probs said it was free

Its well known and documented that Australian dealers update maps for free. Only in US they charge.

We get a free upgrade if our car's maps are out of date upon purchase. It was months later that I learned (here) that updates to the maps were available. I didn't go through the dealer: I dealt with Kia directly and they sent a new NAV card with the updated maps. Of course, it made little if any difference, since even the updated maps are out of date. :P

How do you check that (latest version and how much outdated yours is)?

Meanwhile.. Those of us without nav are still waiting for that UVO update which enables wireless bluetooth messaging..

I didn't "check it". I had a choice of following my own eyes, or the NAV: and if the latter choice, then driving over/into a cement planter box in the middle of the road in trying to "obey" the NAV and make a left turn!? After this experience, I started paying attention to the "upgrade" talk.

Here's a post about how to find your version. Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update But you can always just call Kia about it.

Seems to be a lot more valuable option than a one time pair of headphones.

You Aussies get all the stuff we don't!!! :)
