Kia Stinger GT vs. Genesis G70 3.3T: Is Luxury Worth It?

I have a 2018 GT1, do not have rattles and never had rattles. The primary reason I'm in a stinger is the rear seat leg room and the hatch.

Of course, not everyone has experienced the rattle issue, but there are still buyers who are experiencing it.

One of the most common causes for the rattle at the hatch is an improperly sized washer, which should have been addressed as a running change.

After reading the article I feel it may not have been the best two cars to compare. I would prefer a comparison between the Stinger and a similarly equipped BMW, Audi or Mercedes. I feel our cars would have shined more in a comparison against the German premium cars. While he Genesis G70 may be better than a Stinger in some ways, I agree with many of you that it does not offer the room and practicality a lot of people need. The Stinger is a family sedan that can haul stuff like an SUV, and there is room for bigger folks in the rear seats plus you get the handling of a sport sedan with loads of safety features and luxury as well.

And although the G70 may drive a little better and be a tad more luxurious, it lacks the versatility of the Stinger. We did not seriously entertain buying a G70, because my wife said she could not see over the hood as well as she could with the Stinger. Also, our local Genesis dealer was not willing to entertain offering us a loaded G70 for a price similar to what we paid for our GT2. If I were buying a luxury sedan just for myself, it may have been different, but at the time I had my Corvette and we were replacing the family car. We have since replaced the Vette with a Mercedes SL400, but we still need the versatility of the Stinger for longer trips and family transportation.

Depending on your needs, it would be either Stinger vs G70 OR Stinger vs G80. We need the rear legroom, G70 is just a no-go. G80 high dash was a no-go for us..

Before I bought the Stinger I looked at the G70, but IMO, it's just not a great looking car. Something about that grille and headlight setup just turns me off. I also don't own any vehicle larger than the Stinger, so having room in the back was a big selling factor for me.

Hello from Canada. Please someone correct if I'm wrong, but don't we here in The Great White North, get LSD with are AWDs. Looking at the brochure right now. Under GT Limited in the technology column, first line, "Limited Slip Differential" And the best part is we're paying 52k also.

While the G70 isn’t unique, it’s not ugly. It’s good looking. I love the uniqueness of the stinger but by all means the G70 is not bad looking — has good proportions.

In rereading the MT article, I noted it claims rear seat space for the Stinger is the same as the G70. It seems to me the Stinger has more leg room. Are they actually the same?

That's the first time I've seen that assertion. EVERYBODY on here says the G70 rear room is noticeably less than the Stinger. I suppose that if you pulled the G70 front seats forward a lot then the rear leg room could be the same as a Stinger's in the average seat position.

The G70 has less leg room but not as much people make it out to be. Stinger is a little roomier but a lot of extra length is felt in the trunk.

Yeah, I think that captures it well. The one you get depends on priorities and subjectivity. No wrong answer.

When I looked at the Stinger I had no idea that Genesis had it's own equivalent. I've seen more Stinger's on the road than G70's, but I assume the G70 holds it's value better.

From what I can tell, Stingers are keeping value better. Comparing a Stinger GT2 to a Genesis G70 Sport 3.3T with the same mileage, the Stinger has a higher trade in vale by a couple hundred dollars. Small but interesting.

For me, the G70 was the better choice as I value luxury and performance above rear leg room and a hatchback. My car is more driver focused, I have a faster, variable ratio steering rack. The lighter weight and shorter wheelbase allows me to enjoy, even more, aggressive driving. On top of this, my AWD G70 has a rear multi-plate LSD (Limited Slip Differential) and drift mode, which the Stinger finally got in the GTS trim.

I have no regrets choosing the G70 over the Stinger. For me, the Stinger felt almost a little boaty in comparison when doing test drives. The higher quality interior was only icing on the cake for me.

In my opinion, and evidently that of Motortrend as well, If you want the better driver's car, the G70 is the way to go.
Still an opinion though about which is the better drivers car.... I will say in driving my awd, I have never experienced the sensation of it "shrinking to fit me" as I did in my Q50 awd or Genesis coupe, so I get your boat comment. But turn in, traction and the confidence they inspire make that up to me. It goes exactly where I steer, regardless of road conditions, even with wheels spinning. It's my daily driver, so a small price to pay for the room/comfort/utility.... I absolutely love it!

Check the resale values of the Dynamic and Design edition G70 cars. They are THOUSANDS above the Stinger and regular G70 models. It doesn't necessarily mean dealerships or private parties will give you more. However, online retailers that go strictly off of KBB values will pay a premium for those limited G70 cars.

Yeah, I saw that too. Doesn’t make sense to me at all. Considering that a lot of Dynamic Editions had paint issues. There are several out there for sale under $40k with 100 or less miles.

My experience with the Stinger is, they offer larger discounts when new so this gets reflected in the resale.

I got mine for 35k under 300miles and there’s only 400 made in the US
