3.3TT Kia Stinger Aftermarket Exhaust Information and Discussion

I have the Thermal exhaust. Sounds good and no drone! Build quality is too notch.
Been pretty interested in the Thermal offering. Still enjoying it?

Did you do just the catback or also the tips?

How loud is it on a cold start? My concern is waking up everyone in the house when I have to leave at 6am for work. :/
Just slam the house door really loud as you leave... then the exhaust won't wake them up! - problem solved! :rofl:

HAHAHAHA! :rofl::rofl::rofl:

You'll get a good laugh out of this...

So I'm on the second floor with my gf. Her parents on the main floor right under us. I am heavy (220 pounds) and when I try to walk down the old steps of the house it can be heard in the basement. I always feel so guilty because certain days I have to leave at 6am and other days at 8am or maybe even 9am depending on the location I'm going to. The worst part is I work on Sundays and sometimes Saturdays so when they want to sleep in I wake them up... ugh...

Do you have access to the back side of the stairs, or is sealed? if you have access you can spray foam them, or add some 3/4" plywood and construction adhesive to stiffen them up...

Alternatively add a fire pole to slide down and skip the stairs altogether! or buy them earplugs lol

Not my house and can't do anything. It's a very old house. I've only recently moved in here and should be out within a year or so once this COVID nonsense settles.

I might ask if there is something I can buy from home depot (father in law is a real man unlike me and works with his hands so probably knows how to deaden the sound) to ease the noise.

Haha earplugs... :p

Gotta be able to listen in case a "peaceful protestor" wants to break in and steal something over here... thank goodness for the dogs... :D

Spray foam if you can get to the back of the stairs is the best (and pretty cheap) option, it will both "glue" all the treads and risers together as well as block the sound of the footfalls on the treads... so kill the squeaks, (loose nails from the wood trying over time) and thumps (feet hitting the steps)
If you can fill the entire cavity great... but it depends how how big the staircase is, and the budget

Otherwise spray the area where the parts meet (basically all the 90degree corners) and then fill the cavity with Roxul (safe and sound) to help kill the thumps... (you won't need a skid load lol) one bag will likely do it

If you can't get to the back, not much you can do

Thank you so much!!

I'm going to bookmark this and run it by him this weekend. Will see how it goes. :D

Is there any (legal) exhaust set up the is a clear winner in terms of performance first and sound second? Seems like a ton more options looking at this thread when I thought I had it all figured out looking at the MBRP...

Any benchmarks using the same vehicle and just swapping exhausts for a look at the raw data?

Curious which systems people feel give the exhaust more of a growl, and less of the raspy sound that I associate with street racing. I lot of systems seem to have a high note or pop as it gets into the higher RPMs. I'd love to find something that mimics more what you would hear from a Challenger. More muscle car sounding.

I heard that MBRP is heavier than stock so that will actually reduce performance.

Is Borla lighter than stock?

Lighter should increase performance... duh :p

I didn’t weigh either the stock or the Borla, but a significantly lighter than stock. Can’t imagine the MBRP could be heavier than stock.

I forget where on the forums (was a post from a few months back) but someone did say that the MBRP they got was in fact heavier than the stock system.

You're saying the Borla catback is lighter which is awesome! :)

I didn't get any bites on my question so I'll ask it a different way - is there any data available to compare the different exhaust systems for the Stinger that don't rely on company dyno claims? I went to an exhaust shop and they told me they wouldn't touch a downpipe install for a Stinger and that I should be looking at other things if I'm looking strictly to increase performance and suggested BOV upgrade and throttle body mods, among other things. I understand that exhaust gains are generally small, but with the BMS intake I figured downpipes with a catback would at least give me a 5hp increase. Maybe slightly improved fuel economy. Are my expectations too high here? All the resources I've read state that there is at least some power to be gained from aftermarket exhaust, particularly on a turbo car.

I imagine that even if you got another 5-10 HP you wouldn’t be able to feel it anyway. Do you have a JB4? That’s the biggest bang for buck. Along with intake and exhaust, you will be flying. I don’t know the answer to your question. Most dyno’s out there show intake and exhaust and JB4. At least that I’ve seen. Intake is probably the best air mod. In other words, I’m no help! Lol. Good luck. Btw, love the Borla s-type. Sounds mean!

Yeah I'm coming to the conclusion that everything else is more important. Looks like my attention needs to be on the JB4! Have it, haven't had a chance to install it and the plugs yet.

follow the directions on the JB4 carefully! :D

good luck! :D :thumbup::thumbup:

Are there anything like the xfoce system for AWD?

On this car you can gain a lot of power with just deleting secondary cats and cat back exhaust.also with intakes it’s probably in the 30 hp to wheels give or take. Then slap a tune on it with one of the many chips out there . I prefer JB4.this car comes really clogged up from factory on intake and exhaust sides.
