I have a feeling once the tuners figure out how mess with launch boost, we're going to start seeing driveline failures. There's a reason the launch control is so underwhelming.

Supposedly the transmission is overbuilt, so hopefully nothing goes wrong, so atleast for the power we are making on the stock turbos we should be ok. We have to get there and try to find out.

As a former Audi b8.5 s4 stg2 and s6 owner, I can tell you that you'd be killing yourself in maintenance alone not including insurance etc...RS cars are on a different level for several reasons and those factors are just a few.

PS. depreciation is about the worst I've seen aside from range rovers and 750bmw.
People buying RS cars don’t care about these things. Cost is irrelevant. If you have to worry about insurance prices etc. then we shouldn’t be playing ball at all yet. Hell even in the stinger, my biggest issue is the dealership mediocrity. Soup sandwich people

Would you share the information you have on the transmission in regards to being over built. Would love to read/know about it.

Tork has mentioned that they have heard it could handle I think it was 800 torque, another member also mentioned something around those lines as well. You can find their posts somewhere on here or another forum, I did a search online but couldn't find any information to support this. Expectation is that KIA overbuilt the transmission to last the 10year warranty etc. At this stage though its all assumptions.

I’m trying to find out as much about it as I can but I couldn’t find anything specific. It’s like a mystery for some reason. But it’s holding up so far for guys but I don’t think there is even one car out there that has 10k miles with 500tq. So we really don’t know.

I have a friend who is engineer at Kia in the team that makes transmissions. He didnt make the Stinger/G70 transmission (because it is not built by Kia), but I asked a similar question and he said that there was no extra margin for the max. torque the transmission could handle. Time will tell, but that "info" about it being over-engineered seem like wishful thinking to me.

Except this transmission IS in fact built by Hyundai/Kia in house. Same transmission that's in the Genesis sedan before the stinger release. It has been tuned different for the stinger but this transmission has been in the family for at least 5yrs.

It is not, technically. (really funny how people jump at you to say you're wrong on the internet)
It is made by PowerTech, a supplier that is indeed within the Hyundai Kia group, but it is considered as a different company. Some transmissions are made by Kia, some are not.

Why would we assume stuff is going to start breaking when the car actually launches decently? I mean 1.7xx 60 is not newspaper worthy. It feels great don’t get me wrong. But I just don’t understand the thought processes in this arena from time to time. 118-120 trap speed is good for 11.3x-11.6x all day. This kind of stuff makes the rs3 very tempting. But it does all the things that the stinger is used for daily not nearly as well. Sorry I just felt like bitching and moaning today. Ahhh
The Stinger and RS3 are very different cars. The Stinger is a road car with a side of track performance, while the RS3 is a track car with a side of road performance. Also, the Audi platforms have been around for a long time, this means there's a large market and vastly more parts. The Stinger platform has been around for only a year and some change, it takes the tuner market awhile to catch up. It'll be a few more years before we start seeing a serious tuner market. Tuned and bolt on cars is is just a toe dip into the water in the tuning world. We'll get there eventually.

I'm sure the transmission can handle 800 lb/ft just fine on the interstate, but that really isn't the question. It's the engine that typically blows on high power vehicles, it's the transmission and differential that blows on hard launches. Just because a car can get on the dyno and hit 800 lb/ft doesn't mean they can throw on some slicks and hit a 1.6 60' without blowing the tranny/diff. Until someone does blow up those components of the driveline, we really just don't know. Anyone saying ANYTHING can last til xxx power level without anyone even getting there yet is just blowing hot air.

Correct. The rs3 has only been out since 2017, one year longer than the GT. And the car is extremely small, back seats are basically useless for sitting in. It is a performance car that kinda does everything else. The stinger is a incredible drivers car that sort of does performance.

So it's a company owned by Kia/Hyundai that makes transmissions for Kia and Hyundai. It's also called (per the website) "Hyundai PowerTech". I'm gonna go ahead and call that in house.
LOL

Summary | Hyundai Powertech

20 minutes ago I was lined up side-by-side with a Nardo Gray RS3 at a traffic light. No one in front of us for at least a 1/8th of a mile. No cops in sight. And then it happened...

...we both leisurely drove to the next light without passing the speed limit. :(

It's undoubtedly fast and it's a cute little car. It's not something an old white-haired grown-sized man should be driving. It's also TINY! And as Doug Demuro noted it costs $60k and has no power seats!

Luckily we are not old with white hair! It is very small. Why didn’t you get it and see what happens?!?!

Why didn’t you get it and see what happens?!?!

I have a 6'1" 16 year old, a 5'5" 10 year old, and a 5 year old in a booster seat. They would kill each other in that back seat.

No I mean why didn’t you go for it at the stop light

Ahhh.

My car is RWD, modded, on summer tires, and it was sub-50 degrees. If he was stock I'm sure I have more power than he has but there's no way I could have matched his traction off the line.
