Not bad! Stock for stock and tune for tune the Stinger is very competitive with the BMW 3 series.

We REALLY need to get the launch control on these cars sorted out. 2.1-2.3 sec 60 ft. time? REALLY??

I have a bone stock GT1 AWD

13.18 @ 105.9

73F

Approximately 1,1oo above sea level

93 octane

Sport mode with launch control
Nice. Looks like an excellent launch too (for a Stinger at least). So everything is factory? My Typhoon Intake shaved a little time off when I did a run. It was 87 degrees out though, at sea level.

Thanks. Yes, it was a good launch. I could feel it right away. Yes, everything is factory. I may go back in late October when the temperature is cooler to try to break into the 12s.

I agree and it would be help drop times, but don’t think Kia will ever justify the need to change it. These transmissions must last at least 10yr/100k for the warranty.

Also, if any tuners cracked the LC settings I think RWD Stingers(especially tuned versions) would have traction issues if RPM held over 2250. And it’s just a redundant feature on the AWD since nobody is spinning all 4 tires(yet;)).

Unfortunately there just doesn’t seem to be enough demand to change it. Most average RWD owners won’t change tires just to use LC, and AWD won’t need it probably until 600+HP. That only leaves the handful of serious tuners or drag racers, but maybe one of them will feel the need and figure out a LC crack. Fingers crossed.

Me too! Ran 13.051 with intakes, so I need another go to hit 12s. However, JB4 comes in the mail today!!!

Yeah comfort mode is a killer on power and it's not the lack of launch control. Not using launch with sport mode only costs you .03 where comfort costs you .3 or .4. Friends don't let friends drive in comfort mode.
We should petition KIA to leave the drive mode where you left it.
I was about 0.3 slower without launch control in Sport mode. What is your technique? A 0.03 difference is impressive.

For the most part, I agree with you as well, except that more aggressive launch control RPM would really benefit the AWD people. Those have so much more grip that a higher RPM and more torque off the line would be really beneficial, to the point where all 4 wheels would chirp on launching. Yeah, more stress on the drivetrain, but unless you use LC all day long at every light and every stop sign, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. RWD-- you are right--just more rear wheelspin!!

Lol. I actually agree with you too and think it’s just terminology mixing us up.

LCs purpose is to mitigate wheelspin. It achieves that by restricting boost in lower gears and limiting rpm to 2250. This really only helps RWD vehicles.

What your describing is a good old fashion trans-brake. That allows for basically full boost at launch and wouldn’t limit power in lower gears. This would put alot of strain on everything but would be ideal for AWD.

Unfortunately our Kia’s cut power when the gas & brake is pressed simultaneously. So our only option is to use launch control. I know they are similar but my initial comments were based on AWD not needing limited boost or rpm since they have twice the grip.

I did two runs each of launch control vs auto hold (and just nailing it) 4 in a row at the strip. AH was only .03 slower but kills reaction time.
My best 60 foot is 1.91 in my AWD using launch control.

Launch control is supposed to make you faster period. That may mean reducing wheel spin or increasing wheel spin. LC in my GLA45 AMG does a nice 4 wheel burnout dropping the clutch at 3500 rpm

OK, I didn't think about using Auto Hold. That makes more sense. It sounds like Launch Control still has the slight edge though.

In the general use of the phrase Launch Control I absolutely agree. However every manufacturer designs their own LC with different acceptable parameters. Since AMG is a high performance brand I’m sure they are pushing the limits with their LC version. I bet they aren’t limiting power and push to 3500rpm to immediately ride the 2.0L HP wave.;)

We’re not as lucky since Kia cuts boost and limits power using LC. So even if we could raise the rpm to 3500 I don’t believe it would make much difference in AWD Stingers.

I admit our LC settings are soft and have room for improvement, but at least it matches our torque peak at exactly 2250rpm. If someone could crack the LC and eliminate the boost restriction I think that would make a huge difference in AWD 60ft times.

May be worth testing still. I did that test with a tune and LC was much more doggy running a piggyback. But either way it doesnt change much.

Tork says they have LC figured out and can raise the RPM.

Great to hear! We’re they able to remove the boost limits in lower gears too?

Does your Tork tune already have that cracked, or how do you get the latest updates?

I dont have the tork updates yet. I'm only 20 miles away so will head down for some updates this month and try to squeeze in another drag in October with the new FMIC and intakes.

Forgot if I posted these videos here or on another forum. If you’ve seen these three track runs before on here, I do apologize.

I think were all forgetting one fundamental issue with awd, when using LC 80% of the power goes to the rear wheels now if we could get the rpms a little higher and send a little more power to the front wheels then we should have one hell of a launch. Rwd i think should have the stock setting for LC and then the tune should kick in as soon as 2nd gear takes place that way you get a decent launch and grip and you can then just go go go, my thoughts at least
