Drag/Acceleration Kia Stinger 1/4 Mile Times

Even with traction control off and in launch mode, I’m spinning so bad it’s killing the power. And I don’t even have a tune yet... the past two attempts resulted in a fall on the face...

Is there a way to completely kill the nannies for straight line runs? I’m definitely envious of the LSD (Limited Slip Differential) in the 2019 GT1’s
Try it with the car warmer. Needs to be really warm or it can fall on its face. I always leave my oil temp gauge up and make sure the bar is touching the line.

Didn’t know that actually had a bearing on it, I think it was just below the line both times.

Great improvement so far and nice to see you & JB4s are the 3rd quickest RWD Stingers.:D Even more impressive knowing your running a mild WMI setting and a DIY intake is your only supporting power mod!

Now only 0.01 for second and 0.2 for first!;) Bet warmer tires and good launch will get you that 0.01, but do you think the updated JB4 launch settings you mentioned will hit 1.9s 60fts? If so you may break into the 11s even with stock exhaust!

Congrats again on the new wheels and thanks for sharing the impressive numbers.

Traction remains the issue... The Nitto 555R tires are more of a street strip tire. They can hook well but conditions have to be ideal. So far the extra boost off the line is just giving more spin. I think all the pieces are there for an 11 second stock exhaust run. Just need to put it all together one day. :)

Its actually tranny temp. Needs to be around 200 or higher. You can run Torque app and monitor or if oil is on the line tranny is warm to. If you are tick or two under the bar on oil the power doesn't seem to be 100% either, if you got it to launch or used auto hold.

It activated both times, after it loses traction, immediately bogs.

Torque limits maybe? I did bog once on a launch last week and was warm. No spin for me but spinning the tires would get the rpm up and maybe more torque than the tcu or ecu likes at that speed.

This is the reason I like to modify AWD cars. :) You get a bit more weight, but you have more options to manage traction. If I can get one of these down to sub-12's for the quarter, I might just outright replace my SRT charger with it instead of mostly using it for winter duty. :)

Best,

Sounds like the ecu still cutting throttle due to traction or stability control. I don’t believe you can completely turn either of them off. My SXL would start spinning tires, then suddenly cut power even though I supposedly had them both “off”...

Possibly just Kia’s nannies still getting involved for safety reasons. Maybe this can be completely disabled with a chip/tune?

That’s what I’m hoping, if not there’s about -0- reason of going much further with power increasing until I figure that out. I’m assuming the LSD would help tremendously- but I’m also not interested in that cost. I’ll just tint it and be happy-ish lol.

Humm..
I've had the same problem. I haven't made that many passes in my vehicle but I have noticed the quickest have been using launch control. Have tried " punching it" with no launch control and it immediately spins for a bit, then falls on its face for a second or two. Confusing... I'm trying to get a few baseline runs compiled for reference before I start making changes.

Got some new improved dragy times ill post shortly when i have my pretty graph logs ready. The new track has no turns and no up hill. Both the hill and turn was slowing me down. Down slope is between .33 and .99 %. Did a slow run and 3 fast ones and slope starting from the exact same spot (a post) was .35, .42, .92, .99. So dragy isn't the best at elevation.

New Stinger and new Stinger AWD dragy record. 11.95 @ 117.4.
The log is for my 12.03 run I ran just prior. Turned the car off and the app didn't reconnect for the 11.95 run.
According to phone altitude the slope was -.7% almost splitting the difference of dragys .-35 and .-99%
Tork tune, JT intake, catback, ultimate FMIC. Have all 4 cats and on pump 92 octane.

First of all, congrats on your record breaking run and for getting both RWD & AWD Stingers in the 11s!

Two suggestions about your updates. If you’re going to add “slicks” to Terry’s description, then you probably should have the tires listed for everyone else as well. Although Terry notified us that he upgraded tires, it’s possible others have aftermarket wheels or tires too.

Also I don’t believe Terry has slicks, I think he said they were nitto 555r drag radials. They are stickier radials than stock, but slicks are a completely different level of traction altogether.

IMHO, if you’re starting to add tires as a mod then a list with everyone included would be better, and stating “drag radials” instead of “slicks” would be more accurate.

Hope this helps and congrats again on breaking 11s!

Will do. I'll add wheels also. The 20 lb wheels should be good for .05

Was a little less humid out tonight so hit the private track for a few runs. Same mods as last time, JB4, BMS intake, BMS WMI kit (50/50 meth mix), 91 octane, drag radials. This time I added a can of Lucas octane booster. So more like 93 octane. And cranked timing up a bit with a JB4 firmware change.

Still couldn't get a good launch, but very happy with trap. :)

I think we need to revise all 1/4 mile times posted in this thread to include the trap speed after that run. There's a big difference between a 119mph car and a 117mph car even if the 117mph car runs a quicker ET.

I see you added the wheels but only to Terry’s mod list. Unfortunately this seems a little biased if you’re only including tires/wheels on Terry’s mods but not on anyone else’s...:cautious:

I was simply saying if you’re going to start adding tires & wheels as individual “mods” then you should update everyone else’s too so it’s complete. I believe a few other people on this list used aftermarket tires or wheels and just hoping you will keep this list accurate.

And I second brancky3’s idea to include trap times as that is just as important as ETs.

No one else has aftermarket wheels or tires on the list to my knowledge. I will certainly add them to everyone if we have the info.
