Just brought stinger to dealer for first oil change

I've had my GT1 in twice for service (Oil), the first oil change (Blend @ 5k miles) was $29, the second (Blend @ 10k miles) was $34. I do not rotate tires. Daytona Beach Kia.

I just completed my sixth oil change and inspection (at c. 22.3K miles). With nothing else going, they should be c. fifty bucks (plus the cost of the oil, of course, and that can vary depending). Three more free oil chances to go: then I start paying.

I just had my first 6k service done at the dealer. I was a bit surprised it was just over $34. I don't think I could have done it myself for that price. I asked what kind of oil they used and he said synthetic. Same dealer used to charge me like crazy for some of the Optima service visits.

You guys down south are lucky. A synthetic oil change in most Canadian dealers runs just over $100.00 and that is just for the most basic oil change and inspection service. Add anything else, it goes up from there.

Most likely it was a synthetic blend.

My first service at the dealer, which included the requisite inspections, fluid top-ups, etc. as well as the oil and filter change, was 78 CAD (about 59 USD) including tax.

I've done the oil changes since then, but didn't find the dealer pricing to be out of line.

Maybe it's just Edmonton? Mine was based on full synthetic...Pennzoil I believe.

Best price I ever received for a full syn oil change was in the Mustang for 95 bucks, and that beast took 8 liters lol.

Or they reused the filter? Or they used conventional oil? Or labor was complimentary?

$34 is extremely cheap for 7 qts of full synthetic, a new filter, and dealership labor.

Yes, instead of being excited about the price I left mostly wondering what potentially got skipped or shortchanged. Maybe I got lucky and they just billed me wrong.

I know, older thread. But my post is relevant ...

Paid $135 + tax for my first oil change/tire rotation/multi point inspection.

I am confused, but I thought the directional / non-symmetrical tread tires (cant move L/R) & different size size front / rear would prevent tire rotation. I got my Stinger used from a dealer who claimed to put a new set of original tires on before my purchase, but I guess I am not certain all OE tires are this way...

Depends on the type of tires/rims. Some Stingers were sold with staggered 19 inch wheels and tires, others with 18 inch 'square' setups.

I have the original staggered 19" rims with Michelin PS4 summer performance tires, and they can only be rotated side to side as they are non directional - but not front to back. I also have a set of 18" winter rims that are all the same size (square setup) with Michelin XIce tires, and they can only be rotated front to back as they are directional tires. Cars with non-directional tires on a square setup are the only ones that can do a full four tire cross-rotation.

The spare in all cases cannot be part of the rotation, as it's a space saver tire.

Man i hope i never see the day with the stinger with a space saver, that would look ridiculous.

I'm happy that they did not skip the spare and put a can of fix a flat in there tho..

I wouldn't trust dealers either. Conventional oil is min. warranty requirement, so there's a good chance, if you don't ask for synthetic (if you care and want the better oil for your engine), then you're getting conv. oil, possibly, which should at least be SN plus rated and if it is, it's o.k.. but synthetic suppose to also be better for reducing lspi and carbon build up.

If Kia says conventional 5w30 is recommended and it maintains your warranty for 100,000 miles/10 years, what is the point of using the more expensive synthetic? I could understand if it made a cost difference by going longer between oil changes but, I don't see that stated in the owners manual. Am I missing it? All I see is change at 6000 mile or 12 months with no mention of being able to go longer with synthetic oil. Are you really going to own the car longer than 100,000 miles or 10 years?
