I got the car about 300 miles from where I live so it's not realistic to take the car in to the same place for maintenance.

I searched for local kia dealerships. found Willowbrook kia in Chicago land area. 4.9 star out of 1200 reviews is pretty solid if I must say.

I brought my own oil 10qts of synthetic mobil1.

I'm still nervous to give her to them lol. all the horror stories I've read about dealerships. I keep peeking out the door looking for my car. I feel like a nervous parent dropping their child off on the first day of school

For something like a oil change I would never use the dealer's service dept .( even if the change was free ) , Make a appointment at a place close by and let them do it .

I mean I've had good experiences with dealerships in the past, but it needs the point inspection and all the handbook check ups. So I figured find the best kia dealership near me

I bought my car at Willowbrook! Although it's serviced at a dealer closer to home.

yeah so they DIDN"T use the oil I brought, the dumb kid didn't even tell the service guys even though I saw him taking notes when I was talking to him. So they just voided my bill and I got a free oil change, they used same thing I had. So now I have 10qts of oil for the next change I guess. Unless they have some shelf life I'm not aware of.

But besides that the service people were very friendly and nice

Did you bring it in at the 5k mark? I am closing 2k. I was considering doing the first at 3k. Then 5k to 7.5k from then on.

I brought it in for the first time at 5.2k.

I thought 6k was first one, but then started reading on here some guys doing it after 1k lol. I've been traveling alot, I put 1k on it first day I had it haha.

Here is what can happen when you have a high end Mercedes so poor service is not restricted to less expensive car dealers:

I was actually going to ask you how you were going to verify that they used your oil.

I'm very untrusting of mechanics. I never let them do work I can't verify.

I'm probably taking mine in around 4k. Doing the 100, 200, 1000, thing is just too ridiculous, IMO.

Just did my first oil change at around 8700.....was out of town and have been too busy unfortunately to take it in. Shocked at $98 dollar oil change at the KIA dealer nearest me. I took it there because I had a couple of warranty issues that if I don't address them soon enough they will say it's normal wear and tear later on. Anyway, I think it's too expensive to have oil change done at the dealership.

My first nine oil changes are free. I've used two. I have almost 10K miles. The third oil change is set for the c. 10.7K mile mark. But, the dealership set the intervals to 4K instead of the recommended 6K. I asked about that. The tech said Utah is a "harsh/severe" climate (road salt being the factor). Aha. That makes sense driving through/over the winter. But what about this upcoming oil change. What "harsh" climate conditions have we been experiencing? So I turned off the service announcement and intend to drive till winter time, or c. 12.6K miles before the next oil change. Might as well spin my freebie oil changes out as much as is reasonable. During or after winter, as soon as I have clocked another 4K miles, I will go in for oil change number four. And then 6K miles after that (not 4K, because by then we will be back into dry roads and the salt will be gone).

I live in the Dallas area.....no harsh weather here, unless you consider heat and the current high humidity we're experiencing extreme conditions. The dealership forgot to reset my service reminder so I set it to go off in another 6k miles. This will give me time to find another place to have it seviced. Any one know of any good Groupon's haha.

Has anyone on here done their own oil change yet? Anything tricky about it that you wouldn't trust to a Jiffy Lube? I've done two so far, both at the dealer.

Great question....I too would like to know if there's anything special to look out for. I've done the oil changes on my other vehicles but didn't feel comfortable doing this one.

At this point in the game, I wouldn't do it myself, but I'd like to know if I need to stick to the dealer.
