"Something that shouldn't have been there". Sounds like a largish dropped object; someone else's screwup left on the road for you to come along and smack it. I fear debris more than just about anything else: because it can crop up literally out of nowhere without the least warning. So, I do endeavor to keep extra space between me and the vehicles in front. And when I drive, that is ALL I do: I do not preen or eat (on road trips I will "violate" this one but only a little bit) or do anything else but watch the road and the traffic. (And try not to hyperventilateThis occurred earlier this week. Still not really able to talk about what happened; doing so sends me from Bruce Banner to the Hulk quicker than my car gets to 60.
Basically though, hit something on the highway that shouldn't have been there. The car was undrivable, and though it may look minor, you're seeing upwards of $12k (so far) worth of damage.

So after 34 days at the body shop, I finally got my car back the other night. The guys did a fantastic job but admitted this was one of the most complicated repairs they've had this year, between waiting for parts, trying to get the color matched right and coordinating with Kia to get the mechanical bits installed and tuned properly. Apparently they had to have Kia handle the calibration of the new steering rack and unit, and they also had to reset the electronic suspension.
It's been a few days and about 150 miles and I'm still not used to the new steering. It's so heavy and tight now, even in Comfort mode. When turning at low speeds it almost feels like I have two flat front tires. As for the suspension, it was obviously retuned as well, as even in Comfort, it rides SO HARD now. I don't even bother with sport mode unless cornering on a smooth road.
It's good to have it back though. Being without it so long and driving a little crossover made me fall in love all over again (although I will be trading up to a 2020 GT2 before the new year).
Didn't mean to sound so dramatic; I'm mad about the whole thing but it is what it is.....
I hit a big ass truck wheel in the middle of the road. It appears someone had it in their truck's bed and it bounced out. I managed to slow down when I saw the car ahead swerve, but, much like when I hit the ladder a few months back, I was sandwiched in and couldn't swerve or slow down that much before impact.
That thing destroyed the steering rack, AC condenser, intercooler and hoses, radiator fan assembly, the entire underbody tray, the collision warning system and even the high beam assist. As I mentioned above, the initial estimate is 12,500 but I have a feeling it will go up from there. Oh and because it was a stationary object, my awesome insurance company is calling it my fault, even though they acknowledge I had no way to avoid it without putting others in danger.
Be careful out there lads....
Welcome to the forum. Sorry that your "intro" had to be sharing bad news.I hit a bump near my house and destroyed the steering rack. i own a 2020 gt1. they told me i have to wait 5 weeks for the repair. Im so afraid of getting it back and having the steering feel like its always in sports mode.
